he will complement viney really well and set our midfield up for a decade! Along with mckenzie, JT and Gys...that will be a midfield you can see winnig a flag!

I like this kid and will be happy if we get him...but I just think jeager will compliment viney beautifully

Last I read was that GC were looking to bring in more mature bodies not more draftees let along one that can't play for a year...

The saints are the collingwood of the NTFL, stay away! Some demons connections - whelan and Ryan ayers both from buffs...though i think Ryan now has some link with the tahs. Davey - Palmerston. Aussie - tiwi/saints. motlop - wanderes. Jurrah played for nightcliff so almost all have represented. And I don't think the buffs are a nothing club, they won it only a couple of years back and have produced some great AFL talent Including our own matty whelan and Andrew mcleod.

Thats like saying Joel Corey, Cameron Ling, Joel Sellwood, James Kelly cant all play in the same side...Maybe add Jimmy Bartel in too

The main point of my post was that the 5 years was creating a bit of discussion...I didnt think it was anything exceptional and thought that it included this year and next...so really just an extra year on his initial draftee contract...not 5 years once he is drafted. The "locking" him up I think was more about allowing him and our club to have some certainty going foward and remove the will he/wont he, should I sign/should I not types of senarios that can be a distraction over the two years leading up to the draft. Allowing him to focus on his footy, school etc (as opposed to the Scully approach of letting the contract remain unsigned to "focus on footy"...cause that wasnt a distraction at all...errrr yea right...), as well as giving him access to our facilities and staff and getting to know his team mates. Not to mention the assistanct having him tied up will provided to our list management decisions and the abilty to manage any potential body/injury issues. I think there was a little more to it than just a good old show of faith...football clubs are not run like that these days...but I dont think the 5 years was any major risk for the club. Not sure about the reference to Todd because I didnt mention him, but for what its worth, I think your right.

I am not sure but I assume the 5 years included this year and next and then 3 after he s drafted. We needed to lock him away so GWS couldn't use him as one of their under 17 picks or tempt him to be drafted the following year...you may recall other clubs such as the crows sniffing around to see how they could get their hands on him.

She really did go out of her way to take every opportunity to drag his name through the mud...to the point where her articles came across as being filled with distain and all credibility was gone...Cam seems to be doing a fanstastic job...

It could depend what skills they were looking for Neil Craig to bring. If it was for his strength as a fitness/sport science expert then this may have negated the need to get him. We may still want an experienced senior assistant for Neeld, but we may now want one with a different skill set...

The AFL site has a story about GCS wanting to trade pick 4 for a senior player as they are seeking mature bodies not more kids. With the pick 4 being considered a threat to any bid we may have for O'Meara this may bode well for us if we are interested. Of course it could still be used in a 3 way deal but it indicates that GCS may not be interested in him so we would not have to bid against them. If pick 4 is not in the market for him than our compo pick gains more value. Then again GWS may also want mature bodies and not more picks.

If he had an issue with player behaviour on the trip, not sure his new club, or any other club will be much better. In fact we generally have not had any major issues... I read that his fellow start up side GCS had had some players arrested for fighting police in Thailand... I think this whole China thing is being blown out of proportion...its all about the $$$

I understand compo pick are not included in F/S bidding... If we did have a bad year next year...and finished in the bottom 5 or so...low enough that another club did not want to bid for Viney with their pick...we could potentially have say pick 5, 6 (compo after our 1st pick), 9 (mid first round compo) and use our second round on Viney. Wowee... Not that I want this to happen...I want a winning culture and to see us play finals...but was an interesting thought I had...

Sure it may have played some part...but the fact that GWS had to put another year and $1m on the contract and pay $2m up front making him the highest player in the AFL suggests that the money had to be to a point where it was impossible to say no and that up until the point it was offered he was not over the line. Not withstanding the need to improve any point of contention for its players, I think the club would be stupid to think that money was anything but the most significant factor.
