    Interesting that this deal was a trade rather than a free agent pick up. Port didn't dilute their compensation for Chaplin and Pearce and essendon got something back which they would not have otherwise because of picking up Goddard. I wonder why we didn't do something similar with the cats for Byrnes? Perhaps his value is so low that it wouldn't impact our compensation. But you would think we would be in a similar position to the them particularly if the cats get rivers who's value is greater than Byrnes so they will not get any compo. But you wouldn't want anything diluting our compo if it can be avoided.

    I don't think we are actually going to do it but we are certainly getting the idea out there that we are willing to move it on and it could be to the benefit of the teams that may be considering picking Viney.

    That's what I thought. It also mentions the pies trading 4 to GWS for hogan in the mini draft which shows both clubs how Viney in the second round could work in their favour.

    Why would they risk the stand out player of the draft going to GC for a move that would give them little benefit? I'm not worried about GWS at all.

    Agree. It gets back to them taking all the risk for little reward. If it was Melbourne in their position I wouldn't want us making that sort of a move it makes no sense.

    They will still have to factor in us not taking Viney so taking that approach is still a risk. And no doubt they will be ideally after our pick 4 plus the doggies pick 5. It would also be hard for both clubs to argue that such a deal isn't draft tampering.
