Yes.....but.
The game has really evolved since 2000 and we just don't have the cattle to effect such a turnaround, notwithstanding the fact that the spirit and camaraderie is not there.
How frustrated will Mitch Clark feel as week after week he's double and triple teamed and the passes land on his head?
By the way, where are the other two forwards? Oh, I know, shoring up an overwhelmed backline.
I'm worried about this post, but I'm inclined to agree with you.....Clark's goals were met with......disdain.
Players aren't helping each other up, nothing tactile and when there's a scuffle, there's no support. This is not good.
Granted, the worst case scenario was posted by yours truly and I acknowledge this - but like you said, it doesn't alter the fact that CM was a poor draft pick and our development even worse.
I suppose the only way is up.
Thanks for talking footy.
Just have a quick look at your post that paints the whole Club as a complete basket case. Cale Morton, unfortunately, will have that incident that will define him for a long time until he changes his attitude towards becoming a decent AFL footballer.
Incidentally, I just watched the 2009 game against West Coast and Morton caused a turnover in our backline three times in a row when he failed to hit a static target from 30 metres away.
You and I both know that he'll be lucky to stay on the list.
We're addressing these issues one by one.
The coaching staff now look competent and after a summer of assessment there'll be some ferocious trading at the end of the year.
I remember Cale Morton running away from a Port ruckman in his first or second year - therein lies the problem....doesn't want to compete and never will.
Please stop with this 'he barracked for us' as a kid stuff - I was educated at Blacky High and and sure as hell don't to go back there and teach. This is all romantic fantasy.
This club will improve.
Jordan Gysberts, for me, was a surprise pick - skinny kid who was okay @ school footy but can't match it with stronger bodies.
Same school as Blease - 1st XV111 coach was amazed that both boys got drafted so early.
Let's be realistic, but still set HIGH expectations!
Compete! Go hard! Make West Coast walk off the ground knowing they need an ice bath!!
*sigh* John Northey days...
As far as 2nd rucks go, fail, fail, fail. If he's only there to tap, (or thump) the ball if he gets a good run at it, he'll be fine.
The other skills of footy he doesn't do well.
If Neeld is after a decent 2nd ruckman then Clark needs to go in the middle.
