  1. I disagree. As my monica suggests, I'm long past being young and fashionable, and the new top will suit me just fine ..... as well as showing my allegiance to the footy club and putting a few $s into their coffers.

I am a Melbourne supporter, and I love my club. As such, I wear all our schonky members gear with pride. Maybe pride is the wrong word...

I was born in 1981... I'm still waiting for something above mediocrity. Until tha happens, and hopefully with J Watts and co it's in the next 5 - 10 years, I am happy for any practical excuse to donate to the MFC without drawing too much grief from the GF

For everyone else slightly more trendy than I... Everyone needs something to wear to bed

  2. Totally agree, even after he burst onto the seen his ability to find considerable space was unbelievable. Surely this was not arrogance from opporsition sides rather his ability loose his direct opponent and play as an impact player for us.

And the fact he did it off such a low fitness base gives me the most hope

  3. he looked outstanding at training yesterday.

The thing that impressed me the most last year was the fact he knows where to run to, and can actually kick the damn thing! He finds best position, in close and out in space nearly every time.

I'm really excited about Woenna, I reckon he's going to tear it up this year

  4. The thing am most excited about is that for the past 2 years, I've felt we aren't big enough for AFL. I remember round 1 last year we looked like boys vs men against the Hawks.

Now we have anactual strength coach, and you can see the players putting on size, hopefully this translates to us being a lot more competitive at the ball.

I'm excited! Bring on the matches!

  5. I agree with Deeman. Now is the time to keep the members informed of the true situation of the club.

If an annual Debt Demolition is required to keep the club afloat, count me out.

    Who's your second team?

If an annual debt demolition is required to keep the club afloat to survive the next 12 months of the economic downturn, then count me in. When our on field performance improves, our appeal will increase, the AFL will double our friday night games (hahaha) and we will have a sponsor in no time.

Currently we are the worst team in the competition.

All that CAN change when the games start.

For my opinion, AFL sponsorship for the right brand or company is a bargain. Someone will come along, and they will do VERY well out of the alliance.

  6. Do you think our pre season small injuries might disappear abit with the excellent surface at Casey?

It should help us to be settled and belong somewhere.

Now on to the NAB cup for a couple of wins, no crap this year of peaking too early. Our peak last year was pretty low.

Wins mean confidence both on and off the field. Young players thrive on wins and it breeds more.

remember Aussie last year after his breakthrough game, great stuff.

OOPS off the topic, will be at Casey next Monday for training.

It would be better to peak early, than not to peak at all!

    Bring on the hawks?

incidentally, is there a clause now where we have to play the reigning premiers in the NAB cup first up?

  7. Seems odd that so many seem to have never heard of this before recently...

I've always known of it's existence.

I've just never lived anywhere where I wouldn't have to worry about 100 other people making it downstairs before me to pick up the delivery. =)

  8. I signed up for the $25 Age subscription (which is a great deal), which stated that we would receive Fri, Sat, Sun, Monday's Age newspapers for all of 2009.

The first one (Friday 2nd Jan) didn't arrive so I called up the Age subscription people - it turns out that they don't have my address on file as the MFC has shut down over xmas-new year and hasn't yet sent across all the information. This may be understandable if I signed up for my membership in late December but I renewed in early November and received a call from the club just after to confirm the address details specifically for the newspaper delivery.

Supposedly it should come through around the 16th Jan - which is six papers I'm missing out on. Not the biggest concern in the world but you worry that if they can't organise a newspaper subscription how can they run a footy club.

Not the best, but don't panic, I'm sure you will get your 52 weeks worth one it gets started.

Mine started on Dec 18, and I re-signed mid october from memory

  9. My thoughts exactly. We must develop a tough, light and durable helmet for Cale that has a flashing light at the top that he can turn on to attract the attention of the ball carrier. At The Dump, I sit in the third level and it was one of the more frustrating things watching games there this year to see Cale thirty or forty metres in the clear and the ball carrier not even seeing him, the players inside the ball carrier not telling him that he was there, the runner, the waterpeople, anybody ...

I know it is a lot tougher at ground level, but ...

The problem with Cale was last year when he turned side on, he disappeared completely from being soooo totally skinny.

A pre-season in the gym will alleviate this making him stronger and more visable

  10. Hey All

Just wanted to share that for the past 3 days, I have mosied on out of the house in the morning to trip over a copy of the AGE which will continue to be delivered to my door Thursday - Monday for the next 12 months.

$25 must be a mistake, do yourself a favour and help the club out in the process.

For anyone looking for a bit of 'what's in it for me?' in your donations, this has to be the best value going around!

  11. Garland, Rivers and Frawley don't have the bodies to handle the physicality of those players - and Cheney is a small.

I also would have preferred more tall options, however the fact is that we were never going to be able to address all our list problems in this draft.

One more year of pain will bring anothe 3 picks in the top 20 and we will be away and will have turned over all the excess crap on our list from 2006

As people have said, butcher and scully would be very handy + a ruckman, and who knows what Spencer might bring.

  12. Blease looks like the absolute steal of this draft - Moves well, great acceleration, wins his own ball and excellent footskills. Can't wait to him in the red & blue!

Totally agree, with the speed of today's game, I cant believe he was still there at 17.

There is one player he reminds me of in the footage, however I'm not prepared to jinx things.

Hopefully he can turn his 15 possession games into 25s, which I'm sure he will as he's only young.

25 from Blease with his speed and disposal will = 40 from anyone else in coming years.

  13. SOLD on the idea now. My concerns were Go-Home and injury. So on that basis we could be in with a real chance as no WA clubs late 1st round and they would be a bit gun shy i think of both the above concerns.

Are we the best team to be at if you need TLC from a track record of injuries?

  14. Where did i say that this years draft was going to supply all of our needs? Or did you just quote me for no reason & make a loosely related statement? Obviously we won't be able to fill all of our needs from one draft and it's probable that we'll have some similar & some different needs next year.

I think that with our first 4 picks we should draft with a best available basis but considering needs, which if you know much about the top 30-40 or so kids those players are more then likely to be midfielders or key forwards, which both happen to be needs of MFC.

If we select the best available, I hope that next week, we see Watts, McKernan and Shoenmakers in red and blue.

    This would be genuinely exciting!

Please note, there will also be 1 or 2 juicy selections next year.

  15. lol were we not real interested in Greg Bentley?

Carlton have got him training with them.... lol

Seriously the blues are my most hated team ahead of collingwood now....

    Damn I hate Carlton.

Actually I hate cheats; and consequently I hate Carlton

I seriously wish the AFL would stop pretending there is a Salary Cap for an even competition with everyone on level footing, so that I wouldn't get so annoyed with 'the fxture' and the salary cap etc

Honestly, if they were abolished, I could accept that we are crap because we are poor and other clubs are good because they are rich.

  16. Demons Split on Top Draft Trio

I find it interesting they are travelling to Perth this week to meet the families of both, i know this may be a formality but i really thought Watts was our pick done and dusted.

I kind of will be disappointed if we dont go Watts...but hey they know more stuff than me on these kids

They are just investigating whether either the Rich or Naitanui families have a spare $2,000,000 they would like to donate to the MFC to ckear the debt.

Honestly, if we don't take Watts, I will e devastated.

  17. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/lion...3750133880.html

Caroline Wilson has revealed the following from the fixture next year which is not confirmed yet:

    - MFC to get one Friday night home game

    - Significantly less Sunday games which will please the masses.

    - Playing Richmond on the Gold Coast as an away game

I'm alse led to believe we play Port Adelaide at AAMI on Easter Sunday in about round 3 next year, and will also play them at the G later in the year.

Post further leaks if you hear any!

1 Friday night home game! It must have hurt Vlad scheduling us one considering there weren't any major events such as opening ceremonies for olympic games to run up against us.
