  1. I've actually played football with a shaved head, but depending on the size of the nose and ears, these can affect the flight through the air.....I prefer to play with a Sherrin....

Thanks Petjud, and with all the recent troubles exactly how are things going for the Afghan Football League?

  2. Actually Liam and his partner currently live with my family. The club is now looking for their own place, rather than with a host family. BTW, he's settling in really well at Melbourne, he has bonded with a number of the players - not just the indigenous ones - and is fit and raring to go. The coaching staff, especially Ian Flack, have been terrific. I reckon Dees supporters will get very excited when they finally get the opportunity to see him play.

    Well done Rudeboy!

  3. As an anecdote the club (unless the situations been sorted in the past two weeks) is looking for a host family to take in Liam Jurrah and his girlfriend.

If anyone can help out please contact the club, I'd suggest that Ian Flack would be the best person to talk to re this matter.

  4. THankyou for this analysis. Bearing in mind that neither Jurrah nor McNamara are big men - and that McKenzie, Healey and Hughes are all smalls - I think it demonstrates my point very well, particularly when you bear in mind the young utilities from the previous year- Bartram, Buckley and Jones

Every post I read about our pre-season form seems to stress our lack of key forwards and our thin ruck stocks ... and our reliance on the ability of Garland, Rivers and Co to keeping fighting out of their weight division on the back line.

I don't want to nominate any of our individual draftees as "duds" - but Casey is going to have to have a lot of big men on its list - if the Scorpions are going to field a balanced side>

In addition to Rivers and Garland we now have Martin, Warnock and Frawley in the mix and Tom McNamara is very young and I think will develop into another tall back, we have an embarrassment of riches down there now.

Our midfield stocks were undermanned and that's been addressed by the last two drafts.

Key forwards, we took the best player available and held back the PSD draft pick again for the best prospect available. With the club had a choice, tall forward with definite X factor V "God knows what ruckman", I'm happy with their choice.

They tried to address ruck stocks with Warnock, given his price tag, fitness, I prefer Spencer anyway.

  5. but I can't help but hark back to the concerns I expressed after the draft about the balance of our recruiting efforts over the last 2 years.

In the last 2 years we've added the following players

    2 Ruckmen: Meesen and Spencer#

8 Midfielders / Utilities: Morton, Grimes, Blease, Strauss, Jetta, Bail, Bennell, Valenti#

    2 Small Forwards: Maric, Wonaemirri

    1 Small back: Cheney,

2 Tall backs: Martin, McNamara (I think he is still growing)

3 Tall forwards: Watts, Jurrah, Zomer#

    Plus Mckenzie# and Healey#

Looking at that list I think the last two years has been quite balanced and that its been addressing the most critical holes that we have on our list...classy, pacy midfielders and key forwards.

Whilst it would be great if there was an all-Australian ruckman on our list (next year Jake?), from the last two drafts who would you suggest we have taken, and which player would we have had to have missed out on in order to get them?

  6. Combined with not receiving the Age delivery subscription I bought three months ago once, some-one down at the club is going to cop an absolute earful tomorrow.

    /rant

Outsourcing does have its downsides, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that one but let the club know that there's a problem so that they can nip it on the bud (I hope).

Re the Age subscription it starts as soon as you pay for it. To get it sorted call the Age subscription # 13 66 66, it's a call centre so have a thermos of tea handy because it will probably take awhile.

  7. Some of these suggestions are ridiculous.

Well perhaps, and sadly its not the time of the economic cycle to be snaring our spiritually aligned car sponsor, the trident emblazoned Maserati.

Back to reality (maybe), looking forward to the footy show, hope some good news comes to light.

  8. Maxwell was not trying to lay a tackle, because McGinnity didn't have possession of the ball. Maxwell was simply trying to bump McGinnity out of the contest to clear a path for his teammate.

So you clearly haven't seen the incident.

As much as its entertaining to have a go at the Pies, I tend to agree with mo64 on this one. Whilst I'm all for protecting the heads of AFL players, I didn't think Maxwell did anything particularly reckless and that it was just an unfortunate outcome.

  9. this is a big call considering you are not backing it up with any sources or facts. I hope for not only the clubs sake but also yours that this is true or you may really regret this with the back lash that would come your way

With all due respects backing up highly sensitive and confidential information by quoting sources and/or facts on an internet forum would be the height of irresponsibility.

  10. I don't think that I've seen anything worse at AFL/VFL level since the days of the old Army Reserve Cup when a Collingwood seconds player decided to emulate the activity of the competition's sponsor by declaring war on everyone who happened to be on or near the vicinity of the ground.

It's shocking footage indeed. Rumours (unconfirmed) of bad blood between the two, apparently things are so fractious those two couldn't even agree on the price of cardboard.

  11. well good on em

They sponsor the dee's so Go Volvo!

I proudly wear my red volvo cap with the MFC badge on the side. My carltank supporting brother made a smartarse crack about it recently, I shut him up with a one word reply HYUNDAI

  12. Nothing had arrived from MFC. I could see that I was losing the battle. Then, two nights ago, a parcel arrived from MFC containing a soft footy, a high-quality cap, a calendar, stickers and other stuff. My son was over-joyed. The MFC parcel easily "beat" the Crows offering.

Despite the MFC's financial situation, I believe that we must "break even" or even make a small loss on our junior memberships by offering these sorts of enducements. We must win the "hearts and minds" of the next generation of "tragics" that will hopefully include my son. I am perhaps in the ideal position to view what a wealthy club like the Crows can offer. Well done to the MFC administration for competing (and winning) on this year's junior membership package! Apart from a premiership, I think that it is probably the most important "competition" in which MFC is invloved.

Thanks for the good news story Norwood Redleg. I'm not sure what profit / loss the club is making on the "little devil" membership but one thing it does do is illustrate to the AFL that there is a new generation of supporter coming through.

  13. hey fellow demons i have enjoyed reading your comments over the last few months any how im wondering were we sit if the state government tackle the mcc over better stadium deals obviously we cant have a say in what we think is a fair deal and im sure certain people eg eddy mguire are not going to like the mcc handing coin to the demons so i believe that we might be a big chance to lose queens birthday in the near distant future unless the mcc hand out better deals wich aint going to happen nevertheless im happy with the outcome the sweeter we are with the mcc the better

Dear Jack, why the assumption it's their game...it's at our ground, it's our game!

  14. Great to hear that each party has been able to get past their differences for the good of the MFC. At this point there really doesn't seem to be any negative news for the Dees, we've got some really exciting talent for the future, the members are signing up in their droves, and now we've just been given $2million for Christmas!
