  1. My nephew Pringle (wore # 5 with distinction in the last game - but then I think we had about three or four wearing that number) is currently in Bangalore following the test. I have a feeling he could be back in town by then. If he is, I'm sure he'll want to play as long as the somosas, papadams etc don't get to him first.
  2. I like the sound of Schoenmakers. Tallish, versatile and tested well at DC. On top of that there's a fair chance if we can get him we might be able to convince Ferrari to come on board as a major sponsor!
  3. You still make a valid point about the length of the trade period. Surely two days plus half a day to finalise would be enough?
  4. The day's meetings are over and if this was true it would have filtered back to the legitimate media. It's starting to smell like a hoax.
  5. You mean, this Jeff Chapman and this article - Jeff Chapman is a good sport, and man of mystery? I remember him well. He came to the club at the wrong time. Our glory period was over and we were on our way down by 1966. Chapman was a young forward who had to slot into a team that was every bit as woeful as the Demons of 2008. Good to see his business career is light years away and above in quality and quantity than was his football career (and I mean that in the nicest possible way Jeff - you have fantastic initials and if you could see your way to slinging a sponsorship in the direction of your old club, you might even be regarded as well or better than the other JC's known around these parts !)
  6. Just final note on Adem Yze's career. He finished 3rd in this year's Sandringham Best and Fairest. FWIW, here's the voting and a few snippets from Barry who has now arived on the Gold Coast:- Senior B & F Andy Biddlecombe 101 votes Runner up Rod Crowe 92 3ed Adem Yze 68 Most Determined Andy Biddlecombe Best 1st year player Chris Waller Most Courages Player Chad Liddell Coaches Award Shane Tregear Leading Goalkicker Nick Sautner Best Clubman Graham Clarke Trevor Barker Award Nick Sautner Leader Newspaper Award Andy Biddlecombe Second Place Peter Summers Gary Gilchrist Award John Kempf Reserves B & F Sam Monahan 2nd tie Guy Martin & Rennie Gilchrist Most Determinend Madison Hardiman Team Involvement Award Brett Liddell Coaches Award Jack Cannon The following players have retired - Chris Lamb, Chad Liddell (coaching Tooradin) and Rod Crowe will be away for next year. No word on Ezra Poyas yet. (For future information on Sandy see the St. Kilda boards)
  7. He did attend but couldn't participate due to illness.
  8. Nice to read something positive about the Demons for once:
  9. ... and NickNat doesn't think he'll go # 1!
  10. Just to confuse things, there is another Jack Watts who is the brother of Fergus Watts who played for Adelaide and St. Kilda. The other Jack Watts is also 194cm tall but plays mainly in the ruck and he's just won the b & f playing in A Grade in the VAFA.
  11. If the allegations against Carroll are correct and the AFL standard contract permits the termination of the agreement in those circumstances, the club should take a hard line stance on this issue and insist on the AFL's full support. If the facts come to light as have been put around in recent weeks and which seem to be supported in this article and the AFLPA supports Carroll then it will be to its everlasting shame.
  12. I've bumped this item up because I went to the MFC site this morning for details and couldn't find it. Many other members and supporters might be having the same problem. Apart from the AGM, this is the last club function for a while so let's get behind the boys and the coach and give them our support!
  13. All the talk after the TAC Cup grand final is about Steele Sidebottom and rightly so after a performance like that. However, I want to say that Tom Rockliff is probably almost as much a winner from the game as was Sidebottom whose form showed an upward surge in the last four or five weeks of the season reaching a crescendo in the grand final. On the other hand, there have been many questions about Rockliff. Was he too slow, lazy, a one trick pony as a small forward? Even his good form in the preliminary final still didn't answer some of the questions I had about his ability to be a top flight footballer. One game might not have answered those questions but he spent a lot of time down back and in the midfield and his stature grew accordingly. As for Ziebell, the other "gun" player in the Bushies team, he really showed all of the attributes of being a fine AFL standard all rounder. He didn't dominate however, because he's apparently carrying an injury. Much of the above is now moot, I suppose (unless we pick up another top ten pick). Ziebell and Sidebottom will probably go 5 to 10 and Rockliff in the mid 20's so it shouldn't affect us!
  14. For a while I was one of those who thought that Juice might be the next big thing as a KPP forward at Melbourne but obviously a few things have gone wrong in the past couple of seasons. Around mid 2006 when he was breaking into the Sandringham seniors after kicking a few bags in their reserves, I was in a group that was near Chris Fagan at the end of a game and he remarked to us that he would be a good player when he put on a few kilograms. The following season under our new fitness guru BB, Newton came out a few kg's lighter not heavier and it took him a long time to get his act together. He was finally selected to make his debut in Neale Daniher's last game. I notice that he's listed above at 90kg but wouldn't be surprised if the figure's a bit less than that following his injuries this year. In any event, when he did get games with us, he was all too easily brushed aside. Meanwhile, a couple of KPP's who played in yesetrday's premiership team (where Fages now has a gig) in Franklin and Roughead are listed at 101kg's. Nobody pushes them around and between them, they scored nearly as many goals as the entire Melbourne team did for the season. I'm not an expert in human physiology or whatever but if Juice comes back looking as light as ever when the NAB Cup starts I'd say his chances of making it are no good. Alternatively, if there's a chance that we can trade him notwithstanding the fact that we renewed his contract, we would have to look long and hard at that possibility.
  15. I met him a few times at Sandy and agree that he's a fantastic kid. I suppose he'll go back to the SANFL and in a couple of year's time he'll bob up on Adelaide's list. Good luck for the future Isaac!
  16. It definitely wasn't a one one performance in the grand final because Siddebottom has had a stand out finals series. Even last week I was looking at the usual places (ok, I confess mainly big footy) to see where he was being rated and it was already in the top dozen and I think he was always going to go before our second pick at # 17. He hasn't done any harm to his stocks but probably won't break into the top three.
  17. Congratulations to CAC for finally learning from past mistakes.
  18. Which just goes to show that after everything that's happened in the world's capital markets over the past fortnight, $1.6m over 4 years > $1m over 3 years. It's a nice bluff but I doubt he would do it if he wanted to go to Carlton - other clubs would take him first.
  19. You're 100% right. It's absolutely disgraceful and more befitting a football internet fan site than a prestigious newspaper like the Melbourne Age. We should be running people like Connolly (Rohan not Chris) right out of town!
  20. Enough already. This thread is hereby deemed superfluous and is now locked. There's plenty of room for discussion on this topic on other threads. Thanks.
  21. The total votes polled by Melbourne players at this year's Brownlow was the same as the winner - 24 votes. It was also the same as the number of votes polled by ex-Melbourne players - Scott Thompson (Ad) 15 Jeff Farmer (Fr) 2 Nick Gill (Ad) 2 Travis Johnstone (Br) 2 Darren Jolly (Sy) 2 Troy Simmonds (Ri) 1 Something like this might have happened to the Bulldogs who used to give away players who went on to win Brownlows but I can't recall it happening at Melbourne.
  22. More humiliation. Thank god the season's over as far as we're concerned.
  23. I don't believe that it was the case that they were considering Steven Gaertner. I believe that it was someone else but I don't know who. As for Eastie's question about Neville Jetta in WA - he was BOG in the WAFL colts game, not the senior grand final. He could be a bit of a prospect for a late draft selection.
  24. That's $10.00 per couple but don't take Whistler with you.
