The article doesn't just sully Scully. It goes on to give us a fair whack too.

I hear what you're saying but does the fact that Demetriou has produced the goods in one area make him immune from criticism for his shortfalls in others?Nobody is arguing that Essendon and Melbourne haven't made their own beds but Demetriou is the head honcho of the organisation and some of the things he's done and said lately do not reflect well on his position, on the AFL itself and in particular his own governance. Just as Cameron Schwab was shown no mercy for the fact that he presided over this club during a time when the club went from being deep in red ink to back in the black, Demetriou should not be quarantined from criticism just because his efforts might have saved some clubs from going out of existence, particularly when he was acting out of altruism when he did so.

Jackson has done more for Melbourne in his four days as CEO than Paul McNamee did in his four months at the club. The strange thing about that is he hasn't done anything. Not even booked his tickets to Wimbledon.

For those enquiring about the lack of media coverage of Casey games, the next home game v Box Hill will be the ABC1 telecast match. They'll probably have radio coverage that day as well.

No Jesse Hogan. I just hope that corkie isn't one of those 4 - 6 week corkies.

Can you imagine if they had the anti-obesity drug AOD-9604 around in 1977, Elvis could have become a champion Essendon footballer?
-
We simply don't know a great deal about the Danks/Bates involvement with Melbourne players but on what we've been led to understand to date, the only suggestion of any improper practice is that Jack Trengove was prescribed a cream containing a banned substance AOD-9604. Assuming he did buy it and used it, then he would appear to be in trouble. Brukner, who is a medical practitioner and not a lawyer, argues in the Age article mentioned above, that none of the "outs" provided for in the rules would help the Essendon players (and by extension Trengove if he took the cream) obtain a better result than a 6 month suspension. On the other hand, a sports solicitor quoted in this Herald Sun article presents a different view based partly on a mysterious letter which Stephen Dank apparently showed Essendon club doctor Bruce Reid and Dr. Bates at Melbourne. Trouble is that only Dank has a copy and there's a fair bit of mystery about the letter including who wrote it and what it means. If the letter came from a drug company and not WADA or ASADA as claimed at various times, the lawyer's claim appears to be a weak one. However, the clauses in the WADA Code are always open to interpretation and, when the time comes, will no doubt be attacked by the lawyers for the players. The code doesn't make it easy for players and we're told that the only athlete to evade penalty in the past has been one who was unconscious at the time of administration of the banned drug. The exception in the code doesn't provide an out where a player's "personal physician" is involved but in a club situation, the player's choice of physician is limited and if a club doctor is negligent of the victim of a possible fraudulent disclosure, the question of the player's reliance on that disclosure might come into play. In any event, if it goes to a legal stoush, who knows how it will play out?

Welcome to Demonland ... PETER JACKSON
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm more interested in his job description. You would think in the normal course, it would be no different to any other AFL CEO but if its true that he's been installed at the behest of the AFL, to who does he ultimately have to answer? -
I reckon, based on this, that James Strauss is a monte to be back in the side v Carlton. Round 4 VFL player review

Monday & Tuesday membership volunteering
Whispering_Jack replied to Nineteen's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nineteen, I truly admire the work you and your team of volunteers are doing for the club. It's at times like these when the mettle of true club supporters is tested. Well done, keep it up and please feel free to promote your work here any time. -
It's like debating with chimpanzees around here. They can't even read my lips so they come out in rotation like the flowerpot men, repeating the same gibberish. Why are you afraid of seeking out the truth? What's wrong with reading for yourselves the articles that have been written about the Mifsud story? Some people read a book and can enjoy it but all they read is the story. Others look for something deeper. You discover a plot, characters and meaning. That can be achieved by going to the sources. Read what Wilson had to say. Read what people said about her, about Mifsud and about what was alleged about our coach. That's all I'm asking people to do. Open your minds and think, rather than shout shrill accusations. Look for the truth.

Firstly - that's because it suits your position. Secondly - that's because it suits your position. Thirdly - that's because it suits your position. If you don't believe the above things don't matter, that's fine. Why join in on the debate? We're a club that's suffered for nearly fifty years from poor administration and in many cases, some very bitter disputes within boards and across factions. If there were no faceless men attempting to destabilise the club from time to time, then as you say, it doesn't matter. If such people do exist and their actions harm the club then we have a problem. History says that we've had a problem for half a century and therefore it matters to me if such people exist. Finally, I'm so staggered that people are trying to close down discussion on the Mifsud story if it supposedly doesn't matter, then I'm even more convinced that it does matter so I'm offering a reward to whoever finds the thread where discussion took place recently on Wilson's articles. Lifetime membership of Demonland to the first person who finds it.

Who's being disingenous now. The only reason I continue to post about the fact is to remind you, Tim D and Rhino acting in tandem, about it because you're continually making false claims suggesting that I haven't offered information. Given that you know that I'm not going to name names for confidential reasons but have told most of the story, why make a point of bringing it up even as side issues to other discussions? I can only think of one thing - you're being smartarses.
-
On this we can agree upon but only in part. If we were a club that was run properly, then many of our current woes would not be haunting us as they are at the present time. That doesn't give the so-called "faceless men" the licence to run to the authorities to turn us in because they can't accept they were dismissed from their present positions. I'll have a little more to say about those faceless men but do you really think this was as simple as Aaron Davey speaking with Mifsud on his own bat and that was that? Davey denied it. Mifsud apologised and offered to resign. If you speak of bad corporate governance, this has to have been one of the most obvious failures we've ever seen in the AFL. Incidentally, I can't recall Davey playing a good game since this story broke.
-
The above quote is exactly why I think people should read the source material on the Davey/Mifsud story and not rely one what someone like myself of BB says about it. BB's recollection could only be accurate if he was in the room when Davey and Mifsud had such a discussion. That might be the case but I don't think so - and the official explanation is substantially different, as is my understanding of the situation. And, as I said earlier, Caro had the story (where the hell did she get it from?) but didn't run with it because she couldn't verify it. That's exactly why I say it's worth reading the articles to examine how her attitude changed as the story grew legs.

The lie about hiding behind "confidentaility" - I've told on this thread of how I was informed by a person whose version I accept as credible that the tanking enquiry was dead on its feet until a former employee of the club went to the inquisitors with his version of the "vault" story and that this triggered off the spate of publicity, including the infamous Caro articles of late October/early November, 2012. It wasn't known widely then but accepted now that three disgruntled former employees gave that evidence which conflicted significantly with the evidence of Bailey, Connolly and others. I didn't hide behind confidentiality in the telling of that or connecting it with information which Caroline Wilson obtained (and I'm assuming nobody is suggesting that she made it up. Certainly, there are posters on this site who have told that they know what Caro knew at the time and what the AFL knew and they're the ones keeping their information confidential. They're entitled to as I am to mine on the parts which I have promised to maintain confidentiality about. It hasn't prevented me from telling the story I set out to tell and I think it's fair to say that nobody disagrees with the fact that there were rifts among sections of the club which ultimately caused it damage.
-
Maybe it was the tanking thread from before that one. We had quite a few and now that I have you working, you should try a bit harder. As for paraphrasing the story, thanks but no thanks. To get the most out of the story, it's best read by going through all of the source material. I know exactly where you're coming from and your last post is not only complete bullshit. It's a slur that I won't accept.
