  3. ... "any Demon fan who can afford it and doesn't own a 2014 membership by Monday morning is also a bum. "
  4. Is Melbourne the new Port Adelaide?
  5. Big question. Do I watch the replay of the game I've just come home from or do I watch the cricket? Thanks to Foxtel IQ I can watch them both at the same time.
  6. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Toigs tonight.
  7. ONE SMALL STEP FOR 2014 & ONE GIANT LEAP FOR DEMONKIND

  9. Well done - it deserves a thread of its own rather to be buried among these pages. Cheers!
  10. No, it's not the same side as last year. We have some of our better oldies out as well as a couple of good newbies. It's only ½ a game but our endeavour and application have been very good. I think we'll be improvers this year.
  11. I'm tipping this will be the closest game played at Etihad so far this year.
  12. The stuff Jake Niall writes is usually good but in this speculative article he shows the Melbourne Football Club and its players very little respect: Richmond a good fit for Frawley Now, many would say that the club and its players have done nothing to earn respect from the football public and they would be right. This article brings home the poor perception the football world has of us as a club, automatically placing us in 17th place with no hope of being able to sway Frawley to stay or to match any offer for him if he decides to leave - and the person I'm talking about is one of our leaders. That is why first and foremost we have to stop making excuses every time the team goes out and performs poorly. A limp, lifeless and insipid effort like that of Brisbane's admittedly undermanned team last night should not be excused by the fact that ten or so of our finest didn't make it to the line. To be clear, it's not the result on the scoreboard I mean here, but rather the tactics and strategies applied by the coach and the effort and commitment of the players. Yes, it is a Mickey Mouse NAB Challenge match being played for no prize and it takes place in February, but after seven years of indifferent results in both the real thing and in meaningless practice games there should be no excuses for rubbish on field performance or excuses based on political upheaval, club in fighting, injuries or poor coaching. We are in the public eye tonight and if the 24 or so who run out display anything less than total commitment, it will only set the scene for continuing the contempt and lack of respect in which we are held by the rest of the football world - and we will deserve every bit of that.
  13. Ye of no faith should take a look at the effect on the Australian test side when it's Mitch finally got to be fully fit!
  14. I certainly hope we don't do worse because they were positively abysmal and I hope we're beyond that sort of performance under Roos. The easy excuse is that they were undermanned and had a dozen of their regulars missing through injury or being rested and it's a fair excuse for getting beaten at this time of year but not for the rubbish performance. It looked to me as though a number of players weren't prepared to give anything. Their skills and execution were poor, they didn't defend well or work hard enough to keep the ball forward and there didn't appear to be any game plan or tactics in place. Their young kids appeared overawed. While I might sound harsh and I concede they didn't have anything near the best team on the ground, the game demonstrates that the Lions are below par in terms of depth and they will struggle. Collingwood also had a weak team in last night but showed a lot more and probably should have won the game. Also disappointing was the small crowd. Probably more than at Centurion but only just.
  15. Painstaking this morning at Centurion but it was more enjoyable to watch Smith's 100 than Brisbane's first half.
  16. Is Brisbane the new Melbourne?
  17. One day it will click with Warner that he doesn't have to smash every ball that comes his way. Without wanting to blunt his game, someone should be into him over shot selection and when to exercise patience i..e on a green top when the ball's still new and doing things. Agree with Rogers - that sort of rearing ball can be unplayable. He was stiff. Shaun Marsh and Steve Smith saved the day for Australia which is in a rare position for a visiting side at this ground - slightly on top.
  18. Surely in the context of this thread, those words are highly complimentary. And yes, it was the creation of a great man and former board member of the MFC. It's not acceptable for anyone to say anything derogatory on Demonland of anyone who held such a high and esteemed position of eminence.
  19. The way I see it Kingswood Country was to television what the No T$ No B$ Thread is to Demonland - cutting edge, state of the art satirical and biting social commentary without borders of boundaries. In other words, pure unadulterated crap. However, like the TV show and the Kingswood vehicle it is typically Australian and for some obscure reason remains one of our longest running threads and for that, the usual contributors should be proud.
  20. I think both coaches would be reasonably happy at the outcome and that Collingwood, which fielded a much weaker team on paper would be buoyed by the fact that a few of their inclusions, notably Adams and White will certainly add to the mix. I couldn't help but be impressed by the exciting play of Stokes and (to a lesser extent on the night) Varcoe and wonder if we could one day get similar from JKH and Barry. I've only seen one training run this year but the former impresses me as one who could make a significant contribution early even if the coach is generally opposed to promoting players too soon in their careers. I didn't stay up all night but my other heroes from a big evening in sport are Shaun Marsh (ton) and Torah Bright (silver).
  21. If they turn up to play tomorrow night they'll be stuffed by the time Richmond arrive on Friday night
  22. The Supergoal is back! Thank goodness for that!
  23. With the opening of the NAB Challenge competition imminent, I suppose many are all trained out ... anyone going?
  24. Please stay on topic. If you wish to discuss alcoholic beverages please do so on the general board or arrange to meet at a convenient pub. Thanks.
  25. Melbourne Demons fans will see Paul Roos blueprint by Round 5
