Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I take back my match preview. It's all about playing with intensity for four quarters or at least three of them like Collingwood did today. Of course we don't have a Swan, Pendlebury, Sidebottom or Beames either. -
Round 6: Predictions & General Discussion
Whispering_Jack replied to Machsy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two AFL teams have just arrived on the set of Lost. The crowd are the "others" on a different part of the island and are expected to arrive by half time. It seems they've taken Brent Moloney captive. -

I'm half expecting Dr. Larkin to declare their performance a classic example of CPFS (Chronic Peptide Fatigue Syndrome). -

Don't worry about that one. Gerrard Whateley believes in it and therefore it must be so -

Essendon chairman Paul Little says self-reporting to ASADA may have been a mistake Not quite "unfettered" Mr. Little. They weren't given access to the records of what your club injected into your players. Perhaps if that would have been done we might have been a lot closer to the final resolution of this farcical situation. -
The point I was making was that the Suns weren't forced to wear that anemic mainly white strip last Sunday but when we go over there, we're forced to wear white. It doesn't make any sense.

Easter and bureaucratic (bungling?) matters A Federal Government decision is likely to delay the ASADA doping investigation have seen this thread relegated to page 4 of the board but the story isn't going away - Panel ruling imminent on Stephen Dank If, as anticipated, things don't work out well for him, Dank is going to try to delay the inevitable through proceedings in the Federal Court (expensive but it's his right to do so). The delays won't be welcome by the Essendon players implicated because, apart from having to work their way through the strains of the uncertainty surrounding this saga, there's a possibility that this will drag on into a period when the maximum penalty for anti doping violations becomes four years and not two as is the case now. Two years is tough but four would be career ending (although it's not clear whether the four year maximum would apply for offences that took place in 2012). -

Melbourne tasted victory for the first time in 1964 on Anzac Day when it bounced back from its opening round defeat at the hands of the reigning premier Geelong to against North Melbourne by 16 points in front of a crowd of 15,914 at Arden Street. There was a strong wind blowing down the ground and the Kangaroos led at half time by a goal after both sides had enjoyed the benefit of the breeze. Melbourne capitalised on the elements in the third term but the home side gave itself a chance of winning but that prospect petered out with poor kicking for goal. Melbourne 4.3.27 5.5.35 10.11.71 11.11.77 North Melbourne 0.1.1 6.5.41 7.5.47 8.13.61 THE TEAM B: Don Williams Bernie Massey Len Mann HB: Bob Miller Brian Roet Brian Leahy C: John Townsend "Hassa" Mann Frank "Bluey" Adams HF: Ray Groom John Lord Barrie Vagg F: Bryan Kenneally Barry Bourke David Robbie FOLL: Bob "Tassie" Johnson Ron Barassi Ken Emselle 19/20: Herb Matthews Graham Wise Goals Ron Barassi 3 Barry Bourke David Robbie 2 Bryan Kenneally John Lord John Townsend Barrie Vagg Best "Hassa Mann" David Robbie Bryan Kenneally Ron Barassi Brian Leahy John Lord Milestone Robert Miller celebrated his fiftieth game for the club. It was fitting that Anzac Day marked the return from suspension of the team's hero, captain and legacy boy Ron Barassi Junior whose father was killed at age 27, in battle for his country at Tobruk in 1941, the first VFL footballer to lose his life in World War 2. Ron's comeback on Anzac Day was a fine tribute to his fallen father; he kicked three goals and was among his team's best with his usual brand of tough, hard, inspirational play. To his adoring fans Barassi was a footballing god. The Demons also had John Lord among their better players and, as they staved off one attacking move after another and the hapless Northerners kicked only one major from nine shots at goal in the final stanza, it was clear that on that Anzac Day 50 years ago we had not only The Lord but god on our side ...

Love it guys. "Get stuck in" and "Red hot go". I just need another half dozen of those cliches and my preview will write itself. -

Just out of interest, why were GCS allowed to wear a non clash jumper against us last week? They should have been made to wear a predominantly white jumper as we must whenever there's an alleged clash in one of the team's colours. I'm raising this purely because there should be consistency on the ruling and nothing else.

I think we can squash that one immediately.
