With the current state of the club’s injury list, I think consideration should be given to the field of players out there in the state league competitions to cover potential gaps in our lineup in the event of ongoing issues.
The one clear area where the Demons seem to have a vacancy is a ready made big man to cover the rucks if Max Gawn is injured or simply needs a rest for a week.
The recruiters really blew this. Had the opportunity to bolster ruck depth with a ready made state league ruckman. Instead picked a very raw tall fed who is a few years off. Serious questions need to be raised over our recruiting the last few years. It's damming when Goodwin admits there's no one at the club who will win hit outs against Jackson and darcy

I find it so hilarious that you are a poster that basically only comments on a single issue and that, of all the possible issues to get heated about, drafting a developing young key forward with a nothing pick in the mid season draft is the issue you’ve chosen.
The world is a weird place.
so mid season draft is all nothing picks is it now?

@kozzyisalegend Kentfield was overlooked by every club in last year's national draft and rookie draft, as well as any opportunities for supplementary signings (ie if we wanted to push to replace Brayshaw).
He was then taken as pick 11 in the mid season rookie draft.
So think of Kentfield as a player that we drafted as a rookie at the end of last season. First we have low expectations that he will make it. His selection is as a project player that we hope might develop. Most players drafted as rookies never play an AFL game. Secondly, if he does make it, we expect he'll take a couple of years to develop to the point where he might push for an AFL game. Tall players take longer to develop. And he is as much a project tall as you'll ever get.
still doesn't defy the fact he was a baffling draft choice

Kentfield has done nothing. After watching this game I know know why we went last night without a reserve ruckman. A poor lot by any measure.
Yep. baffling draft choice IMO. project player way off it at the moment when there was ample ready made depth available

Because we are paying Schache peanuts and need a key forward at Casey for structure and to help with Jefferson's development as jeffo gets the second best key defender.
And let's say we did cut Schache, it's not as if there is a pool of gun ruck forwards floating about who we pay peanuts and they do any better than Schache.
Mabior chol was up for grabs and we didn't even talk to him....

There is arrogance and confidence. Reid looks like he has been reading too much of the West Australian.
Kolt has confidence - big difference.
For me reid is just a super competitive kid who hates losing. He stands out to me as someone diffeent to jhf as he seems to buy into the Eagles culture.
He's polar opposite to Jack watts who was also a pick 1, one of the least competitive pick 1's I've seen

Reid is clearly going to be an amazing player, but his attitude and arrogance is pretty poor.
Personally I love the arrogance, need to see more of it in the young players

Jefferson. Yes good development and with a big preseason, could start in round 1 2025.
Adams. Development has stalled. I’m not sure he’s the future KPB that we might have after May retires in a few years.
Few Casey players are okay but not the addition to the MFC squad. Loss of Hustwaite and Connolly has robbed Casey of their depth.
Surely they delist Hunter and Schache.
McAdam is VFL standard. Not worth a promotion.
Hore was clearly our best player and is a worth promoting if we have a place available.
Lack of quality young mids is OBVIOUS!!!
Get Deven Robertson. He’s good enough for AFL senior teams.
its very dissapointing knowing we are going into this years draft without a second rounder because we gave it away for a vfl standard player

Kentfield way off it, 6 possies and no goals. Interesting recruiting decision when we are crying out for ready made depth

Jesus. This selection was not about ready made depth.
Kentfield was overlooked in the ND and rookie draft last year, and after exposed form in the first half of this year we have given him a shot at development.
Imagine if we drafted a very late, key position prospect in the rookie draft last year. We would expect them to have 2-3 years development before they are AFL ready.
He is 1.5 years plus about 70 draft picks behind Jefferson for example.
Ready made depth is important since we are missing petracca for the rest of the year , J Smith and brayshaw gone forever
We really needed someone like Sullivan from Collingwood or Jeremy sharp who can come in and impact straight away, instead of struggling to touch the ball at casey.
We are in grave danger of missing finals and the lack of depth is one of the biggest reasons why.
Even still. Getting 4 touches at vfl even as a young forward doesn't cry out to me as afl potential

I only saw second half of Casey, did anybody who saw the first half see anything from Kentfield.
I know it’s only his second game and he will need an AFL pre season, but he was playing WAFL, which should be about VFL level and I didn’t see him touch it in the second half.
Just interested and I know he will need time.
Bit disappointing pick up getting a gut averaging 4 possies a game in the 2s when we are crying out for ready made depth

What does he work on at training? Don't think it's set shots

Put aside the absurdity of that statement for a moment and tell me how that trade gets done. It’s 2 top 10 picks just to sit down at the table and have a conversation.

The stats sheet is diabolical reading. How can AFL listed players hardly touch the ball against a C-grade VFL side?
our new mid season recruit only got 3 touches

He wasn't cheap though. He was traded for a second round pick.
That's a bad return for a 29 year old who struggles at casey

don't think second and third round draft picks are particularly valuable
I'd strongly disagree with that
Let's look 3-4 years ago at the draft and see who was picked up in the second and third rounds
Beau Mcreery
Errol Gulden
Mitch owens
Paul Curtis
Jake soligo
Harvey Harrison
These kids are way past billings and mcadam

Why the club didn't go after mabior chol baffles me. He is exactly what we needed and was going cheap
