Is Luker Kentfield capable of racking up more than 4 touches a game?
Again. Baffles me why we recruited him. Had a prime opportunity to get a ruck or mid who has been dominating the vfl to bolster our depth to make finals. Instead we elected to recruit a raw fwd who will take a few years who struggles to find the pill.

Good lord Fullarton is absolute crud in the ruck contests.
He really is a below VFL standard player.
Baffles me why they recruited him in the first place

Bedford carved us up tonight and made us look slow. Never should have let him go

Who was the genius who decided to put may on Riccardi? Cost us the game

There is a fairly simple answer to this.
When players leave the Club, particularly those who are still contracted.
Don’t replace them with players who can’t get a Senior game and don’t extend contracts of these same players.
We have traded downwards since ‘21Hawthorn have recruited massimo dambrisio, Jack ginnivan and mabior chol. All very good players who were cheap, were playing vfl and were up for grabs. The failure to talk to them is a disgrace

Too true, i'll take the critics seriously when they link me to their posts slamming Petracca, Oliver, Pickett, JvR, Lever, Rivers re-contracting.
We haven't missed Jordon and Harmes and Grundy had to go.
Why did Grundy have to go? He was contracted

You forgot Toby Bedford
Bedford and schache were not from 2023 trade period but yes I agree. It's upsetting to see bedford leave for opportunities whilst sparrow is being gifted games

𝗜𝗡𝗦: Tom Fullarton (Brisbane), Shane McAdam (Adelaide), Jack Billings (St Kilda) 𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗦: James Jordon (Sydney), James Harmes (Western Bulldogs), Brodie Grundy (Sydney)
Disastrous trade period from Tim lamb, we are now starting to feel the effects

Goodwin said in the presser we need a new method of winning at clearance. It’s not an overnight change, hopefully something we’ll be better at in 2025.
It's not like it's a recent issue. This has been going on for years, however its never been this bad

I have no problem with Goodwin talking straight. The trade(s) of Fullarton and Schache have been a complete bust, we are basically 2 men down, Hunter is not far behind them realistically
tim lamb needs to go.
Unacceptable how we have lost bedford, grundy, harmes and jordan and in return recieved billilngs, schache, mcadam and fullarton

well melbourne almost broke the record of the biggest clearance differential in the game , 47-16 is the third biggest difference in afl history. we need a please explain from andrew mcqualter, his days are numbered

We took a speculative low-cost risk on Fullarton hoping he could become something he clearly hasn't yet. We traded pick 47 in a supposed 'shallow' draft for him, not a first rounder. Clearly hasn't come on as we hoped but was who we believed to be best available for our needs at the pick and within our wage budget.
Would I like a Lloyd Meek who can come in and fill a need? Of course. But even if we have one, come the end of the year we're rebalancing our cap and working out who we need to let go to pay our back up ruck an above average wage. Lists will always have holes due to the nature of the salary cap, backup ruck is one for us. Can only fill these holes by taking calculated risks that sometimes work and sometimes don't.
I'm excited to see what we do this off-season but won't be at all surprised if we have the same issues next year as you just can't afford to pay a backup ruck anything other than minimum and Gawn needs to be first ruck.
Disagree. Every other club has back up ruckman ready to go. No other team of recent has lost clearances so convincly

Consider who the trades are , schache, Fullerton, billing’s, Hunter, macadam , who’s getting a game?? What’s walked Grundy, Harmes, Jordan … I know which ones I’d rather have .. last 2 years trades equals amateur & disaster
Add bedford to the list of players we let go for a pack of twisties

Bit harsh on the defenders.
If the midfielders all go missing.. you lose.
How many times did Young run round the back of the centre bounce, with no pressure, and deliver wherever he liked.
The reality is viney, Oliver and rivers are very poor defensively. They continually allowed young, serong and brayshaw goal side

I just don’t see the point in picking up guys like Fullerton and Schache, if they’re not going to play. I get that list spots need to be filled, but surely you would look at proven performers coming to the end of their careers, who could be on call to jump in if needed and, in the meantime, teach the young kids at Casey.
To me, it seems that Schache and Fullarton are not likely to make the first team, so why persist with them? I would rather have a Brayden Preuss type, who at least shows a little appetite for the contest.
There's a bloke in the vfl called Brayden crossley. Absolute unit in the ruck. Makes fullarton look silly

Losing the hitouts wasn’t the problem. It was not competing when the ball hit the ground that was the problem.
Gawn does two things better than any other ruck, he wins his own clearances (he averages 5 a game!), and he takes marks (averages over 5 a game). Those are his elite stats that we cannot replace even if we “win” the hitout stat.
Fullarton would therefore have not helped as he neither wins hitouts, clearances nor is a particularly strong contested mark.
I hazard a guess that we recruited him as a backup for a tall forward rather than as a ruck backup.
It has to be a real priority in 2025 to have at least one ready to go ruck on our list outside of a 33 year old Gawn.I'm baffled as to the recruitment of a back up key fwd over a back up ruck. Verall is very raw and we gave Grundy up very easily

Whats the point in recruiting a bloke who can't win a tap in the 2s?
