  1. No, not related. Like with you, he was one of my favourite players back in the day. Just something about him appealed to me. So, was a natural name to pic for on here...
  2. Funny you should mention Bruce Andrew. I am in possession of a small booklet called "Australian Football Handbook". Its author is Bruce Andrew, Secretary of the Australian National Football Council. Dunno how old it is (as it doesn't have a print date), but the types of kicks that Bruce lists might give some clue to its age. The kicks listed are as follows: The Drop Kick, The Stab Kick, The Punt Kick, The Torpedo Punt Kick, and (I kid you not!!), The PLACE KICK!! LOL Bruce begins the section on this kick by saying "This is the most accurate kick of all -- especially when there is a head or cross wind blowing. It is favoured by some forwards when kicking for goal." (The last VFL player to kick a goal using the Place Kick was Tony Ongarello in 1955!!) And, no, no mention of the drop punt! Ah, nostalgia! (It aint what it used to be...! LOL)
  3. The VFL is a joke! Should be a full Reserves comp, with the fixtures mirroring the AFL fixture. (With games as curtain raisers to the seniors!) Yeah, I know. I'm completely delusional! Back under my rock!
  4. Might wanna refer to my "inside" info above... (no, not really, although I reckon it would be popular with many -- especially our DL track watchers...! LOL)
  5. "Getting smashed at a closed session" is open to interpretation! Could it be code for several frothy ones in the privacy of a Function Room at the Cranbourne Hotel...??
  6. LOL. Sounds like a cop out, to me, Andy! Time to get your hands dirty!
  7. So, there's just 3 blokes there -- Viney, TMac & Tomlinson??
  8. Kicking goals? A minor detail only... (not!)
  9. Thanks, BB. Nice report. I'm especially excited to hear that you are on the improve! When will you be back to full training? (Right arm glass lifts, I presume?)
  10. Simply not good enough, Saty. In this age of instant everything, we expect a full, blow by blow account of everything that happens on the training track AS IT HAPPENS. In fact, a full, live video feed would be nice! So, kindly lift your game, old boy! The bar is being lifted, and you need to keep up!
  11. Wow!! Not only has the intensity of the training gone up, but so has the level of reporting! Well done, all & sundry! Andy & Jack, I hope you two guys have been doing some preparatory training! If not, you may find yourselves in the reporters' rehab group on Weds! (Hopefully, Saty will have his clothes back on by then, and back in the harness...!)
  12. Century...??
  13. So! The bar was set VERY high with all the great reports on weds. Can it be repeated today?? (Here's hoping...!!)
  14. Did they slap you with a Parking Fine, Saty?
  15. I'll second that! From a day that began looking so bleak on the reports front, we have been hit with an avalanche of reports! All been eagerly digested by Yours Truly! Thanks, guys! VERY much appreciated!! (The bar has now been set rather high. Just gotta keep it up! LOL)
  16. I envy you, mate! Been fully 50 years since I spent this time of year at the 'Spray...! Spent my childhood on that beach! Enjoy!!
  17. Very handy skill for the new guys to have if it's pistols at 50 paces at dawn, eh BB?!! LOL (Sorry mate! Couldn't help myself! But, must add that I very much appreciated your in depth report, along with the one from DeeSpencer! Thanks, guys!!)
  18. Paddy Guinane?! Haven't heard that name in a very long time! Rather sad we hear of such blasts from the past again only after they have passed away. Was a fine player back in the day. Condolences to his family.
  19. I'll second that!!
  20. Not familiar with Melb streets yet, and took a wrong turn on his way to Gosch's?
  21. I understand where you are coming from, Dr D. What has been ingrained into the subconcious mind from an early age is VERY hard to change. BUT, think it's been shown that, if you practice the correct techniques long and hard enough, eventually those correct techniques will start to overwrite the incorrect techniques that have been etched into the subconcious brain. It's not easy (always better to learn the correct techniques in the first place), but I think it IS possible to teach an old dog new tricks, so to speak.
  22. Oh, to be 30 again...!! (Sadly, a VERY distant memory!!)
  23. To be fair to poor ole BB, "Jack" is the familiar form of "John". So, maybe BB was just using the lad's formal name of JOHNson. To the rest of us larrikans, he can remain as JACKson!
  24. That's okay! Just as long as the WHEELS don't come off!
  25. Breakfast didn't agree with them??
