Also 9th contested marks. 1st in least opponent kicks 4th in least opponent disposals 12th for clangers Summary: I think for the most part the early statistics are bearing out what we're seeing with our eyes - inefficiency. But perhaps the frustration of this inefficiency is blinding us a fraction to our absolute dominance in a couple of areas, namely the contested battle and sheer volume of ball moving forward. We're also perhaps the one mobile clearance specialist short to really step it up (JV). The stats are however fairly similar to the early part of last year. But there's some subtle differences re. the nature of disposals for and against. We're kicking more and being kicked and tackled against less - areas which should help with endurance. We're also (to my surprise) not getting completely completely hammered in the marking and are a bit cleaner in our disposal. Basically, we're playing contested footy, but also shutting down space and forcing the opposition to do the same. Together, it all bodes super-well if we can clean up just a fraction up front or get a smidgen tighter down back - the latter which we should be able to do considering we have three AA-level defenders currently out of form or learning to gel (as well as a potential top-line rebounder in Hunt), while as to the former we're still fiddling with in the unexpected absence of Tomald. Lastly, it's just three rounds, and we've played two likely bottom-four teams - but I think we tend to play as well or as poorly despite the opposition and that most of these stats will hold. Those walking sticks come in pretty handy as well when leaning over to repeatedly push a button begins to make the pokies feel like a bit of a chore. Hopefully the club will now invest in some prodies for those of us who prefer our hobbies to be little less action-packed.

The point is is that we are having our way with teams at times. And if we extended these leads by a couple more goals I'm pretty certain most teams would roll over.

Being squeezed out on every line. Hasn't shown much at all at half-forward to justify a rotating spot there ahead of our HF medium fleet, a fair way down the order in the primary mid category, and at half back, where I think he will settle and is his most natural spot, we're looking for consistency in personnel and plugging the rotations with our seniors to make up for the already current immaturity of the group. Like ProDee, he was the first squeezed from my on-field 22 (not necessarily our best 22 players) - followed by the other 'surprise' omissions from round 1. Also had an absolute shocker against Collingwood - so may need to rebuild trust.

I thought it would have been nice to have had more players taking contested marks and applying forward tackling pressure. I.e - not Jack.

You could probably look to the stock market for some of your answers VP. It's not just the perception of a player's value but the perception of other perceptions of both the player and other perceptions - compounded by the uneven market-entry levels of investment capital and the both bi-directionally strategic and psychological bearing that will have on a portfolio approach, to mention nothing of course of the actual approach devising and executing individuals and their own broad set of personal and occupational circumstances, or, the added variable here that, in the instance of a draft as it pertains to football, not all sub-level objectives are identical across the participating and yet still effectively competing parties. In short: it's all bull-[censored].

I don't disagree. As stated, a step up on the natural attributes of. But see Fifty-5's post directly below yours as a starting point of difference. I will also add; better positioning (somewhat as an effect of the former point).

My crystal ball is a super-unimaginative more-of-the-same but better. We will play the same way but better (I think in a way that could potentially rock the competition - ultimate daring run-and-carry with crazy pressure and no concessions). Some lesser-known players might break-through and thrive in that mix - Balic, Baker, J. Smith, Hannan and Fritsch (and maybe Spargo). The players who were on an definite upward personal arc last season will continue that trend - inc. Oliver, ANB, Hunt & Maynard. Maybe Frost with a renewed role/impetus. The rock-solid players will remain rock-solid - Jetta, Hibberd, an imported Lever, and Jones (the latter truly freed up to play a significant complementary role - maybe off half back?). That's a core defensive-line to be especially excited about, (without mention of its attacking addendums) and one I predict will be talked about on par with recent 'revolutionary' examples in WC et al. And the concerns or disappointments will remain so: high-level hopefuls who perhaps under-performed this year may continue to do so through a combination of factors - a la Salem, Brayshaw, and Weids. And the stragglers in Kent, Stretch and JKH won't suddenly improve. I'm hoping we no longer have to care. Salem or Brayshaw coming on however would be a massive boon. Petracca and Hogan not quite yet ready for that 'break-out' season but will continue with their development. My predicted surprise packet this year is an unfashionable James Harmes. The St.Kilda game was a hint of what he is capable of when unleashed and up and about as a cocky HHF. My wildcards as to possible improvement: Jack Viney and Max Gawn staying fit and delivering what they are actually capable of on a weekly basis. Between third and fifth on the ladder. Injuries and slips to still haunt but be much less of a factor. No great revelations but things coming together in a revalatory way. Go Dees!

I've been a bit meh about our drafting for entirely unreasonable reasons. I wanted some extra excitement, as to playing style and the unknown re. potential ceiling and development - Liam Ryan, Jack P. etc. Also wanted speed and run, speed and run. A developing KPD isn't so exciting. However: From my amateur perspective and with all the highlight package provisos (and I'll readily put my hand up and acknowledge that I'm no junior talent scout); this kid looks the absolute goods. From the available footage: reads the play exceptionally well, technically sound, clean in the contest and by foot, and unflustered/steps up to the level of competition. With basically one year in the system. It's uncanny to me his early similarities to a certain recent trade coup in Lever. He will also now be learning his craft in part from Jake Lever. My crystal ball: he will shine in the VFL from day one and cause some early selection issues/personnel reshuffles. And without intending to open a can of worms, is a step up on the natural attributes of Omac and will be a ready and fairly prompt replacement. I'm willing to go early: steal of the draft. Somehow overlooked due to the sense that it was a poor one for KPD's and his rapid ascent making most recruiters a bit nervy to buy in on that spike. Go Dees.

Astute with a little inside intel - Todd's nephew was a teammate of Petty's this season.

This makes up somewhat for our horrible mistake in cutting former Norwood recruit Alex Georgiou.
