I reckon that we should get Gaff.

I have such an absolute unhealthy disdain for Caro that I'd be banned for life if I shared my true feelings on Demonland. But while she could have perhaps touched a little bit more on the rationale for Pert's recruitment, I don't have a problem with this article at all. In fact, it shed some light on a few things that were giving off an uncomfortable vibe (the silence from AFL HQ etc.) and I actually feel better and more confident about the appointment for having read it. Two in a row, including the camp article.
  3. Based on the overwhelming evidence of this photo and second-hand reports of a grumpy media interview earlier this week I feel confident in making an expert diagnosis that Tomald is exhibiting symptoms of aggression and disinhibition due to a case of traumatic brain injury (TBI) he has incurred from his hit against Port. The mist that kevin martin spoke of at training was clearly a red mist of anger radiating off of Tom and settling as a fine dust on his glowing pink face. I'm looking forward to seeing how this possible permanent brain damage and uncontrollable rage and might translate on the field against the Saints. A lot of potential upside.
  4. I'm actually a fan and believe he still has plenty of development left in him. Maybe Masterchef can also give us some tips on how best to prepare a headless chook.
  5. Do you think they'll release the spycam footage when Frost is told he's off to the Gold Coast? Hopefully we learnt a few tricks from Masterchef so as to capture the full emotional weight of his personal devastation.
  6. Imagine he cemented a spot and went on to win a flag with Port this year. One of the most unlikely footy careers. Good luck Jack. Apologies for keeping that flag from you.
  7. How lovely it would be to a MFC KPD before your first game. Universal admiration on fan forums and yet to be subjected to top-flight teams penetrating your diamond. One slip up in one of the most difficult defensive set-ups in the league and he'll be off to the delist thread no doubt.
  8. An MFC-themed playground with a never-ending merry-go-round and a ten-foot deep ball-crawl. We could even pitch in for the Demonland/Bi-polar Association co-sponsored see-saw.
  9. Rusty, are these your stats? I recall someone had their own system but not sure who. There will always be statistical biases in any system when comparing players across positions (and not accounting for intangibles) but in general these tables are a reasonable reflection of what many here I think would consider the form-lines of most of our players.
  10. It looks like we may have to cut out a small chunk of the scoreboard and a fair section of the stadium roof. MCC not gonna like that. Not to mention all those cars we'll flatten. Maybe we can sort a compensation package through Zurich?
  11. I'd thinking it would be better for the club to train in a secret bunker the way some of our supporters carry on.
  12. For someone who hasn't lived in Melbourne or spent much time around the MCG/Yarra precinct - what is public access to Punt Road Oval like? Is it completely fenced off? If so, where do kids go to kick a footy between some sticks around that area of the city? Also, can someone explain what four consecutive commas signify in terms of punctuation? It wasn't covered during my writing degree for some reason. Cheers.
  13. Do you know if the goal to goal axis Dee Spencer has proposed is correct hells bells?
  14. The year before John Connor travelled back in time to help ensure the creation of Skynet?
  15. If true, I have even more faith in our administration (for you know, agreeing with my thoughts precisely). I ordinarily hate regional games - Alice is an exception, and something we can build into an annual showcase with a fair number of peripheral benefits.
  16. Maybe we left it a bit late if we were only circling at around 4pm today after he had re-signed with Port? However, SWYL seems to think we can bend the time-space continuum by passing on Wines in the draft when his first league game was a BOG.

I have concerns like a few others on here which I think are reasonable to express: According to the grapevine and the evidence at hand: Pert developed his professional career in an environment which is not like our own. He has shown a heavy hand in the past, and a disposition to involve himself in footy dept. matters. Regardless of what due process at that level should ordinarily be, Jackson seems to have been sidelined. Our president has made some comments to this effect which are suggestive of political ego. Our board still hasn't demonstrated that they can be entirely trusted. We have some decent operators who have missed out on the role. That said, I'm happy with this appointment. For the following reasons: It seems the AFL had a say in the recruitment - which is okay by me and I think super important. The AFL would have had a say for a reason - e.g. they have plans to support our expansion. Pert seems like the right fit for such a job, and has the experience to get it done. Indeed, I see a parallel to the Roos-Goodwin transition (not in experience obviously): Jackson steadied the ship and laid the foundations, and we now have an ambitious operator to take us to the next level. My one simple hope: Pert makes us great again and stays the [censored] away from the on-field activities. And that the board has the foresight and chutzpah to enforce these divisions. Otherwise, I say congratulations MFC on another coup and let's make it happen. Go Dees!

As to the above, it's sometimes hard to separate opinion and mail on here with the uninformed but definitive statement style some posters lean towards - can you please make clear? As to the below - mods, can we also please pin somehow?

4 is certainly my/our idea but I don't have confidence in 5a because we've had to fight so hard for 1a in part due to 1b and I'm concerned that the board's desire to turn 2 into the status of 3 will compromise 5b and ultimately 3 which will in turn impact 2 and undermine 1a.

What gives you such confidence? The history of our board ensuring such? And backing in the footy department when meddling has occurred?

On Open Mike a few years back if anyone is interested. I recall that I thought him pretty impressive at the time, but on watching it again I hope that he can curtail the heavy on-field focus that he developed at Collingwood - which I also hope was out of necessity rather than it being a natural personality/ego thing. I further hope that our board have made it clear that our club is an entirely different landscape to the CFC and such an approach isn't necessarily necessary, rather than our board thinking that such an approach can magically emulate Collingwood's success. That is all. Good luck Gary, and welcome aboard.
  22. The N stands for 'no' and the H stands for '-heads' in an often cited footy club policy that is promptly forgotten about when the likes of De Goey enter the market. Incidentally, Collingwood won a flag off the back of an all-DH policy in 2010 and have underperformed ever since they reversed it and switched to a Buckley-boy model. Until this week, of course.
  23. LH - you've just effectively called Kent a DH. You don't need to share why, but do have any solid grounds to make such an assertion? Or are the drinking suspension from last year and his general mien the primary things you're referring to?
  24. This was another statistical exercise I've been meaning to conduct, but thankfully someone at AFL media house took care of the leg-work themselves. Essentially, the convergence of three key stats as a predictive model for winning this year: contested, DE% and pressure acts. While we're noted for at least two of those three, I suggested before that our dominant run has coincided with an uncanny apparent uptick in clean disposal - suggested in turn by a poster as a result of omitting those of questionable foot-skills. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-06-05/the-stats-files-the-three-keys-to-winning-games-in-2018 In brief: "Only one team – Geelong against West Coast in round three – out of 30 this year has lost when it won contested possessions, disposal efficiency and pressure factor in the same game. " "That equates to 96.7 per cent of the time, the highest winning percentage from the stats three-pack in six years." Also, something to consider: "The three categories also stand strong in isolation this season: contested possessions (65.6 per cent success rate), disposal efficiency (69 per cent) and pressure factor (62.2 per cent). Sides win 90.9 per cent of matches when they win contested possessions and disposal efficiency; 81.8 per cent with contested possessions and pressure factor; and 73.5 per cent from disposal efficiency and pressure factor." And a quick finally: "Queen's Birthday combatants Collingwood and Melbourne are the only top-eight teams to rank in the top 10 in all three categories in 2018."

I also had a pop-up launch within the last two days. I don't recall much other than clicking on a thread link and it launched a different page - assumed I'd clicked before the landing page had fully loaded and struck a banner ad - except that it didn't look much like an expected adservices ad. I remember thinking it had a vague Russianness about it as well (this isn't tongue-in-cheek) and shut it down pretty quick. It wasn't a new window pop-up but a diverted page. I also remember that the page had weird framing/borders. It is the first time it has ever happened - and it did briefly cross my mind that the site had been hacked by a disgruntled Dogs fan. Apologies - I probably should have said something at the time. I'll shout out if anything else comes to mind (the tenor of the ad will come back to me I think - if it's of any help), or let admin know if my bank account has been drained.
