  1. How about we get our first dynasty over with, it's just begun. I note recent "dynasties" Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond didn't win the flag in the year following their breakthrough win.
  2. I think with the trade/FA departures and arrivals our biggest needs are: Versatile lockdown defender to replace Hibberd. Someone who can play on C.Cameron, Papley, Stengle, Elliott, even Dusty when he's forward etc. All the best teams have a dangerous small-medium forward that needs to be quelled. This is pretty urgent I think, we're probably relying on J.Smith and maybe Rivers to develop into this player. It's not an easy role to fill and takes a mature body and football brain. We could draft someone into the role but they're not going to be ready for 3 or 4 years which is too long away IMO. We need to look for someone DFA, SSP or MSD for this. Or go into next year's trade with this as a focus. Key forward. I think we should be able to cover this for the next two years with some combination of B.Brown, TMac, JVR and Max but we'll need someone ready to go in 2025 because at least 2 of those 4 will be done. That means either drafting someone this year or making a trade or FA play over the next two years for an established player. The other alternative is grooming Petty for a KPF role in that timeframe, but we will also have to replace May around then too, so that will leave a big hole to fill in the backline. We could chase a KPD in the draft or trade/FA instead of a KPF if this plan floats. They may be easier to find. Ruck or ruck-forward. Again, I think we should be fine with Grundy, Max and Schache for depth over the next two or three years. We could look for more depth with a mature SSP or MSD selection. Like with the KPF/KPD above, we'll either need to draft someone pronto or trade/FA for someone over the next 2 or 3 years. It would be ideal if we could draft someone who is capable as a ruck-forward and maybe solve two problems in one hit, but they're rare birds. Small goal kicking forward. Kossie is the answer here - he's going to be right up there with the greatest ever to play the role. But what's the certainty that we can retain him? Like I said above, all the best teams have someone dangerous in this role. I think AMW has shown some good signs at Casey and could develop into a good player here. If someone was available with these attributes at one of our picks this year I'd be happy if we took them. I think Grundy and Hunter are very good pick-ups and clearly address immediate ruck and wing needs and improve us in both areas. I'm not sure where Hunter's arrival leaves JJ and, because we delisted and re-rookied him, he's FA for life. Unless there's a spate of injuries, it's hard to see where he slots in. I'd be very sorry to lose him at the end of next year because he can play and he seems like a very good character.
  3. @DeeSpencer posts interesting football related content. I don't always agree but it's always well thought out and researched. Your major contribution seems to be to stomp on any slight perceived criticism of any aspect of the club. I'm a well known optimist and generally a supporter of club decisions so if I feel this way it definitely says something. Maybe take up the challenge and try to contribute some original football content like DeeSpencer does.
  4. I believe MSD can come on as Rookies can't they. Disco is a Rookie listed player.
  5. I think you're thinking of @IvanBartul13 and @ChaserJ Jimmy
  6. I think there's a couple more flags in this group. They're hard to win.
  7. D+ is very harsh on North. JHF decided to leave and they had to make the best of a bad lot like us with Jackson. They turned JHF into pick 2. Following that pick 1 into 3 and F1st is good dealing too if you don't want the player GWS does at 1, ie Cadman. You still get the 2 players you want and the F1st. They got a couple of handy players from Freo for their must-trade assistance picks, which is decent going with their coaching uncertainty.
  8. A trade up could happen on draft night if there's someone on our draft list that is available later than we expected. Then maybe 37 + F2nd for a pick in the early 20s.
  9. "I was shocked Turned to the missus, she was shocked Totally blown away"
  10. Put down that burning pot.
  11. Patience grasshopper. @Lucifers Hero will explain all to you after today's dealing is done.
  12. If Grundy played against Sydney in the PF the Pies were into the GF.
  13. Yes I agree it's the right call for them, country boy possibly less likely to "go home" too. And yes they should bid Ashcroft. It was a joke that Daicos wasn't bid until 4 last year. I was more addressing @spirit of norm smith musing that we could trade up to get 1 off GWS - that is dreamland talk.
  14. We have got that Petty option, I'm in the camp that he saves more goals than he can create. But it's definitely an option with Tomlinson and Turner in the wings. I think we need to see where TMac and BBB are at over summer and leading into next year. We probably need 2 of TMac, BBB and JVR available each game for the next 2 years. If we get 100 games out of the 3 of them across that period then Petty can stay back. I should add that we need to recruit another ready to go KPF by the end of that period - I think that's possible - we can clear cap with outgoing players and we have a strong future draft hand.
  15. Agree if, as expected, Weed goes then we'll need some ruck/fwd depth added.
  16. We've got 8 players that didn't play in our finals' teams that should be ready to go next year - Laurie, Bowey, JVR, Howes, JJ, Chandler, Woewodin and Turner. That's not counting D.Smith, McVee and AMW who can all improve with another year in the system. They'll either get opportunities or leave like Bedford. We also had Tomlinson, TMac, Dunstan and J.Smith not in the 22. Our depth is not as dire as you make out.
  17. I wonder if O'Meara and Mitchell will both be traded?
  18. GWS just paid a big price to trade up to 1 to take Cadman.
  19. While I'm rolling ... I was standing on a corner in Sydney Olympic Park Such a fine sight to see It's a Dee my lord, name of Toby Bedford Slowing down to take a look at me Come on Toby, don't say maybe I gotta know if your sweet speed is gonna save me The Dees will lose and we will win We'll never do such a deal again The first player we've ever traded in Take it easy
  20. I gave this a run elsewhere but I think it still stacks up ... He got drafted in a fever Earlier than Hayden Young When we were rucking Luke Jackson We won the flag in 21 Now we've trade Luke Jackson Lamby got us two first rounds Watch out Luke Jackson Don't let Freo down
  21. Brodie Grundy is now a Dee Ned Guy's contract was all you hoped it would be But Fly and Wrighty, Fly and Wrighty couldn't guarantee That by Tuesday evening you would still a Magpie be
