Pretty much nailed it I reckon. I think we have enough talent spread over the rest of the ground to match everyone but Richmond.

On paper, there's a lot to like. I can't see us playing finals if TMac can't get back to something resembling his best. Structurally, he's as important as Maxy IMO. When he's on, we're a completely different team and the rest of the forwardline falls into place. I rate the Weid and Petty, but I can't see either of them having a comparable impact just yet. Jackson will probably be a few years off.

I can't remember feeling as absolutely clueless about our prospects for an upcoming season. I feel we are just as likely to finish top 4 as bottom 4. But it sure beats knowing for certain we'll be sh*thouse!

Its all about getting team 'connection' so the better preseason should really help.

Agreed, but I think we need to get far more creative with our set up. Think Richmond 2017. Over a single pre season, they managed to completely rejig their forwardline and the only gun they had was Riewoldt, so they built around him, added Caddy and then a bunch of speedy contributors.

I'm not suggesting this is necessarily our best way forward (we don't have enough pace), but we certainly need to play to a better/different forward system. One that enables forwards to create space (and quick ball movement will help with this), but also enables us to play predictable football so that everyone is on the same page.

    Including the opposition?

    Some thoughts...

If Melbourne rate Jackson over Green then why would they bid on Green and potentially lose Jackson to the Giants, who it's believed won't match the bid ?   You may not agree with Taylor and co's player rankings, but if they want Jackson they can't bid on Green.  It's just common sense.

Others are worried by Jackson's height.  He's 18 years old and two months.  He plays virtually all of next year as an 18 year old (Sept. 21).  Is it unlikely he grows another 2-3cm before he's finished ?

    Someone questioned his leaping ability.

And he's got a great leap. He can really get over the top of them (opponents)... Peter Sumich

From another - With a strong leap, competitive instincts, an ability to mark and also find the ball around the ground...

Others are saying he's not worth pick 3.  Pick 8 maybe, but not pick 3.  My answer to that is that the Giants will take him at pick 4.  How can he not be worth pick 3 if shrewd recruiters like the Giants will take him at pick 4 and overlook their academy young gun Green with Jackson as their preference ?  If he's worth pick 4 in the view of the Giants why isn't he worth pick 3 ?  Once again, let's talk common sense.

I'm not fussed if you don't want Jackson and I'm not trying to ''convince'' anyone as to his merits, but some of the stuff being said doesn't make sense.

Would be available at 10 being a ruck/forward

We would definitely nominate him.  He will be a Cripps like midfielder. Scary given talent at Giants already.

I’d nominate him to annoy Giants and make them use max points to match it.

Gold Coast nominating him would be more interesting!

Because if you had that draft again Grundy would go pick 1 or maybe pick 2 after Whitfield.

He has: O'Rourke, Plowman, Toumpas, Mayes, Menzel, Jaksch, Corr, Garner, Thurlow, Simpson and everyone after pick 18 clearly covered.

You can make an argument for Macrae, Wines, Stringer, Vlastuin I guess but it's Grundy right?

If you think Jackson is even remotely similar to Grundy then he has to be in the conversation for at least pick 8.

May be more like Hogan equivalent

I doubt there'll be any movement on this front until next year. Apart from Daniher, Bruce and Jenkins, unfortunately just isnt  much available atm. Of the others remaining Mason Wood is an interesting one, could be good but is super inconsistent and doesnt exactly form a formidable duo with McDonald imo.

If Cameron dosent re-sign at the Giants next year then I'm sure there'll be a bonanza involving every vic club to land him, likewise with Ben King. I think the club is still in the mind of hoping Weideman comes good this year and will also be interesting to see how they see Petty developing next year as either part of the forward or back groups. The club should at least wait another year and see if that 2nd tall spot is still an absolute must fill with better talent when at least there are seemingly better players to look at in 2020.

Jenkins is good close to goal...but Preuss should do that job with a bit of improvement.
