Our best results in seasons are:
1990 - 16 - 6 (4th)
1956 - 16 - 2 (1st + Flag)
We went 15 - 3 in 37(2nd +PF), 39 (1st + Flag), 55 (1st + Flag) and 58 (1st + lost GF)
In more recent history:
2000, 2004 + 2018 we went 14 - 8 in all 3 of those years
Best Ladder position at the end of H&A was 3rd in 2000
I predict we'll go 18-4 this year
so 1956 is the year to better ... for us to better the 88.8% winning of 1956 we need to win 20 games of 22 this year (to be accurate it would be 19.36 games as 88.8% of 22 games)
Go Dees

Has Cameron Ling ever said anything interesting or insightful in his entire life. For such a tough competitive beast of a fooballer to be such a vanilla inane pundit. Given his playing style i would have expected a no nonsense commentary style. It's anything but.
Ling is like most of the rest - LAZY LING
Duck has input but I can't listen to a man who has done what he has and been allowed to waltz back into the media
That unsociable bloke from Hypocrite Hwy club the Awks (Hodge) - he speaks in a dialect I can't understand.
Hodge sounds like he speaks into a Messerschmitt gun (speaks so rapidly) that has a silencer on it (through his nose).
Hodge like Duck - allowed to do things and all is forgiven ... it's part of Ch 7's Midnight Oil Club (Short Memories) with the chair of the Club Matthews!

I always enjoy your thread Joeboy, but think you’ve stuffed up this week. You’ve criticised 13 players, more than 50% of the team, yet we just beat a current top 4 team. That doesn’t add up.
thATS how come you are the Chief!
Joe Boy sounds like Max with this type of adding up!

Darcy offers nothing. He is a moronic automated cliche machine. I’m Staggered he has a job in media at all, let alone a prominent one
take him out and the rest would look better
absolutely Darcy is Dopey - how many times did he muck up Barassi coaching and 1965 before correcting himself to say it was 1956 and, well, Barass was playing for us then! and it was actually 1965 when we last won the first 8 - awful Dopey trash that 7 dishes up.
Then Dopey called our #23 James Jordan - Jones twice before correcting himself.
We all make errors but Darcy is lazy and that's how come he makes errors.

hi Wiz Koz
a few facts for you from 1965 - we won the first 8 and then only 2 more games in the infamous sacking year which had only 18 rounds.
We finished 7th in a 12 team comp with a Final Four.
However, Norm Smith was sacked for only one round and that was Round 13 and not Round 9 which is being talked about on Ch 7 (what would you expect From the Home of Footy)!
We only won one game from Rounds 9 - 12.
Let's now look at our big runs and I can confirm AFL Tables:
-
Longest winning streak: 19 games[51]
Round 15, 1955 vs North Melbourne (MCG) to round 13, 1956 vs Carlton (MCG)
don't forget we won the last two games last year so we are on a 10-game streak - only 9 to go!
BTW I wish the Filth had lost yesterday - that has nothing to do with your Q but I can't stand the Filth

We are no different to the racists at Collingwood or the exposed culture of entrenched sexism and misogyny on Capital Hill. Much of society, and by extension, the MFC, is completely blind, and contributing to, the normalisation of the abuse of women. This subtle but pervasive structurally embedded sexism is the personification of male power and control, which of course, is the root cause of gender inequality that manifests as domestic violence, rape, sexual exploitation, unequal pay and a plethora of other abuses. We are all implicated when we allow other people to be mistreated and patriarchal symbols such as the Australian Club are used to raise funds for our beloved club.
you are spot on QBD
it is subtle this gender stuff - my sisters didn't have the chance to play AFL like I did cos I was a male.
there is one eg of gender imbalance that we are only in the past 5 years fixing up.
got to be an inclusive club not exclusive - the MFC was seen as an elite place and we saw how that has not served us for 55 years.
our club has made some terrific changes I'm saddened by this move.

where did the season launch get held - did it go ahead at the AC?
I could not find out what happened.
Did Bartlett take on board the feedback?

My apologies to Jason Bennett who I called Nathan Bennett in an earlier post (which I now can't edit to correct).
And on SWYL's point about the English style of commentary versus what he called the "invasive" style of Channel 7 (good description, by the way), like it or not, we're stuck with the current style. Why? Because Channel 7 has admitted they've tried both and found that overall, their audience prefers the "invasive" style of calling.
tks LDVC ... where did Ch7 admit invasive over complementary English style please? most interesting. To think 7 had Bruce n Den and they did talk a lot but gee it was complementary ... hope my words makes sense with Bruce n Den sort of being invasive with lots of words but most were golden.

I cut my Friday night footy watching by 50 percent when Dennis Cometti finished calling that game each week. I'll now only watch Friday night if the Deez are playing, and only with the volume down. Bruce, at certain times toward the end of his career, became a parody (mostly of himself), but this shouldn't detract from the brilliant broadcaster he was for the vast majority of his career. And he helped revolutionise the analysis of the game for seven years (1995-2002) as host of the original Talking Footy. To this day, the benchmark in footy chat shows IMHO. Good on you Bruce, footy can only be watched now with the volume turned down . . . that's the greatest tribute of all my friend.
wish i'd posted this as it summarises my thoughts on Bruce n Den and Talkin' Footy - in my lifetime the big changes have been: Final 4 into Final 10 (is it yet?!!!); Waverley Park (meant to be the future); women's comp (decades overdue); night footy (ideal for work=life balance); professionalism and not just on the field but in the commentary box and Bruce n Den at the head of this.
Can FoxFooty give us just the crowd sounds and no commentary such is the gap between Bruce n Den n the rest.

No use talking about or contemplating 'travel' excuses: the bottom line is we should not have lost to Sydney or Fremantle. This reminds me of 1976 in some ways when Bob Skilton coached Melbourne to within a whisker of finals. We needed to beat the E Coli Wobblers at Victoria Park which we duly did, despite them knocking out Laurie Fowler in the opening minute. It went down to a game at Kardinia Park where Carlton had a chance to win after the siren care of one Robert Walls. The jerkoff missed. I have hated him ever since. Footscray made the finals at our expense that year as well: and went nowhere.
At least in 1976 we beat teams above us and played like a side worthy of finals. The team of 2020 was a series of hot and cold episodes. In the end, the Bulldogs were better than us.
Nuff said.
what a memory Dieter - I reckon Laurie Fowler was taken off on stretcher - and the E Coli types chanted FOOTSCRAY when they pipped us into 5 - but we had last larf - the E Coli types suffered their first wooden spoon.
Hmm who was it that coached the Filth? to that spoon agaain?

so our next match is posted as Freo V WB!!!

Total thug. Unacceptable in this day and age. Pathetic he has not copped more criticism, though unsurprising given footy media is dominated by ex footballers who are almost meat heads - meat heads who instinctively say no case to answer for every hit.
But there is some justice. In game decided by 5 points Mumford gifted us a goal when the ball was clear of our 50 and IIRC another he gave away on the wing ended with a goal being kicked (i think)
top obs Bin - Mumford allowed by AFL to bring game into disrepute
