    Money and length of contract....

    Ask Jackson and possibly Petty

The upside is that even if you fail you hobble the existing side with a higher/longer contract

And it can’t be an extra year at 100k. It has to an eye watering offer akin to how Liv steal PGA tour players .

  2. if he isn’t the GWS starting team should we really be looking at this player?

We really should be looking to take someone that will immediately improve our top end. KPF / midfielder etc. Our defence is solid and isn’t really an issue area.

    So pass for mine.

  3. This is a joke. There is no duty of care for one own safety…. Unless you are Gus Brayshaw then you are not allowed to take a step onto your supporting foot post kick when Maynard is attempting a smother from 4m away.

  4. Reopening this thread 11 years on. Do you give the guy a 3 year contract (2+1 contingent on games played) ?

Looks to be back in shape and form. And The Couch mentioned Eagles are holding off contract talks. If Im Yeo question is do I want potential success and money (at Dees) or comfort and losses.

Would immediately add to our ball movement and is measurably better than Hugh McCluggage.

Always loved him as footy player.

  5. Our favourite columnist and tv journo (Ralphy) reporting that Adelaide have out their 2 first rounders (this year and next) on the table for Will Hayward.

    Tells me:

    1) They are not dealing for Petty this year. He may just walk next year if we let him.

    2) Haywards asking trade price is going to be way too high for what he is worth.

That is an absurd win ration. Wonder if there’s many (any?) teams with a better record than that over a 25 year period.

it is, but no matter how good they try, it is near impossible to sustain. They will eventually fall off a cliff. Danger and Tomahawk will retire this year. Not much left for Tuohy and Blicavs as well. Jezza and Stewart wrong side of 30. It will happen and the youth arn't all they are talked up to be. Take away 4/6 players above and they are 9-14 side.

To me - result hinges on availability of Tom Stewart. If he plays they'll have a brick wall that we won't be able to penetrate.

I went to Geelong-Carlton and the Cats looked great across the ground. Their biggest weakness is Stanley who was deplorable. Max should be able to own the ruck.

We should have more explosiveness around stoppage, I'm feeling a big game from Clarry.

The other piece that is often overlooked is that our team is very experienced now. We don't fire on all cylinders every week and you can't draw too much from that Richmond first half.

My prediction if Stewart plays is flip of a coin.

No Stewart and I see a Dees 3-4 goal win and a heap of expectation coming our way for the rest of the year.

No he wont. They'll do the Blicavs and Stanley rotation which will neutralise the ruck for most of the night. Its on Page 1 of Scott's how to beat MFC playbook.

Even if Max does manage to edge in front, Scott will throw a blanket on Trac and trust Guthrie to monster Oliver so well likely lose any hit-out advantage that Max can create. The Viney matchup will be interesting. I think they'll go with Holmes to exploit his lack of pace.

Expect Petty to do a number on Stewart, its the least he can do given he is out-of-form. Getting a Henry-Turner matchup will be a good thing as will JVR on Koladskneejkhp (not even bothering to spell check).

Not sure why this post has copper the laughs and criticism it has. It’s a fair comment and question. 100% the “managing” of Harley Reid is suspicious.

Why ET? As in the WCE don't want to win too many games in 2024 ?

On First Crack they talked about our ‘evolution’ as they called it to transition it better off half back.

King identified a stat around score percentage from ball movement from defence that had us 17th post bye last year and 3rd this year.

    Progress!

Also, like 4 of the last 5 premiers were 1st in this stat. Anomaly was us in ‘21. And that was when we beat Geelong (1st that year) from clearance score dominance).

    The Transition is happening!!

    excited kristen wiig GIF

It was scores from the defensive mid zone, which ultimately mean scores from back half turnovers.

Funny the stat was a raw number but instead a % of our overall scoring. It’s a bit misleading as we are 8th for total scores for.

I think the main change is using the corridor more to move the ball by foot quicker to give our forwards a better chance. Simple by design but proving challenging for our team to execute.

Should have persisted with Grundy & kept Jordan, sorry the words from our coach saying how much we value Grundy then isn’t played again was BS! Premiership window closing and should have won another flag yet recycled players Hunter & Billing’s enough said

Grundy was a wasted bet. Gawn excels as the main ruckman playing 80-90% in the ruck. He can’t play forward, which was the crux of the plan. Simirlaly for Grundy. We tried, it failed , move on.

JJ different story though. We didn’t expect Brayshaw to retire. If he retire prior to trade period, JJ would have been guaranteed more game time and money and would have stayed.

Really hope we don’t go down the fatigue excuse if we get done x2.

We’ve played just 3 games in the month of April and should be cherry ripe to attack Geelong and Carlton (and then a 10 day break into West Coast)

It’s not in my book but wanted to highlight a massive fixturing inequality. With 5 day breaks we don’t have a main training session, so to work on tactics, game plan etc is reduced.

Does James Jordon ever make a mistake?

I get that he had a poor semi final as Brayshaw’s replacement, but he always seems to make the right decision and reliably hits targets.

The epitome of a good ordinary player, with the “good” being the operative word.

A smart and cheap pick up by Sydney.

This is how we got a double whammy with Brayshaw. People don’t realise the impact that one hit has had. If Brayshaw retired immediately then JJ stays. But he didn’t and we ended up losing 2 players.

Who do you suggest we should have recruited?

To me it’s the difference of having the potential to be a dynasty team and one that just wins a flag. Tigers getting Lynch got them another 2.

I don’t know if we rested on our laurels after 2021 thinking Tmac and BBB were going to be enough - clearly that didn’t bode well once TMac got injured and BBB was all but done.

When we had the picks from LJ in the 2022 draft we went for a ruck in Grundy relying on Gawn to play as a KPF - again plugging a hole , maybe we missed a trick.

We are gonna get smacked the next two weeks.

I have the same feeling. We have a better chance against Carlton as Scott just knows how to beat us a million different ways.
