What do you think they meant by...…………..

Wouldn't that be Goodwin to Richardson?
Yes, apologies

Richardson to Goodwin on the flight. How were you able to pick apart my game plan so easily?

Good summary Hemingway. However regarding the May deal, who I like as a player. It seemed we had the pick six from Hogan in our pocket for about 10 seconds before we made a play for May. What cornes alludes to, probably without knowing it is that there were other options in the draft to getting May. Perhaps re King we were influenced by Weeds breakout finals series of that year and that could have caused little thought to be given to recruiting King. We will never know but from now some members will forever watch how May/King progress in their careers,

Am I the only one who fears that this team, whilst probably not that far off the 22 that will play, is incredibly underwhelming?
I think our only way forward is with blokes like Sparrow, Joel Smith, KK and some of the other kids being part of the team? vanDenberg clearly best 22 as well.
Agree. little spark or adventure about it. We need some super development from a few outside the listed best 22.

Love it.
No excuses. Fresh and fit list.
Plenty of time to have a game plan and strategy to win.

Intriguing. I recall some of his analysis had been referred to on this site a couple years ago with respect to where we were taking our shots on goal - i.e. as close as possible with minimal angle; something I had been mildly critical of - as forgetting the pros and cons I felt it was curtailing footy instincts (and in my opinion led to the demise of Garlett, among other issues).
I've always believed Simon is an out-an-out stats-nut - looking to uncover small advantages in an increasingly tight competition on the gains v losses ledger. The high press is a perfect case in point (and for the record, I don't think we genuinely fired a shot with respect to the game-plan in 2019). We leak like mad, it looks ugly, but then we hope to outscore through the attacking advantage.
That's fine. Simple. But then questions emerged around feasibility. Is the game-style too exhausting to maintain for example? Along with other potentially unforeseen consequences. I think Simon is super-bright as to tactically analysing the long-game of football, but the recruitment of Rob may help sharpen up the insights and bring balance to what we implement.
Edit: Here's maybe the article I was referring to. https://figuringfooty.com/2017/08/10/the-quality-and-quantity-of-shots-created-by-each-club/
Robert Younger, who works in analytics at Port Adelaide, wrote on Twitter that data from the past five seasons reveals the average footballer, under average pressure, kicks the Gawn shot 83 per cent of the time.

Port Adelaide, the well known and envied Silicon Valley of the AFL.

Lets hope he did not learn how to break down a game from Egan,

No need for another ruckman as Austin Bradtke is now the size of three normal sized ruckmen combined
He looks like he has built up heaps since seeing him at Casey just months ago.

Is that you Goodwin?
Best 22 will look like this
B: Inside mid, Inside Mid, Inside Mid
HB: Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Inside Mid
C Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Langdon
R: Gawn, Inside Mid, Inside Mid
HFF: Inside Mid, Inside Mid, Inside Mid
FF: Pick 97, Inside Mid, Inside mid
Cal Thombey has
Green at 3 Best available
Kemp at 8 Best available
I could have done all our draft picks and delisting on my own for peanuts to what the Club pays in recruiters and meetings.. Agree with them all expect Frostie. Just needed one guy giving me a chop out doing the Langdon and Thomlinson deals

Yesterday I had breakfast with a mate that has been part of an AFL club’s recruitment team for 10 years and due to him passing me info prior to the actual Draft, I would rather keep the Club confidential, however, let me assure you that this is one hell of a successful club.
My mate’s role is purely Victorian based and focuses totally on the TAC, no other league. The bottom line is that he told me this Club had a major meeting last Saturday whereby all the TAC watchers met for a full day and compiled a mock Draft of Victorian TAC players.
Whilst having to be a little guarded at this time of year, my mate told me that at Saturday’s meeting, Hayden Young was the almost totally unanimous choice as number 3 from the TAC. In fact, my mate scoffed at the thought of overlooking Young at 3 even after the interstate kids were factored in
He was very strong in his praise of Kemp but didn’t want to elaborate too much about other players in the 5 to 10 range as this is where his Club would be selecting.
He did however say that neither he or any of his other TAC watchers had Weightman in the first 12 and said he’d be highly surprised if any Club took him in the Top 10 after the interstaters were added in.
Thought you might be interested.
Reminds me of what I heard from recruiters about Scully. Nothing in life is a given and following the herd rarely works out long term. Green with first pick.

Good luck to both of these guys. Did their best for the Club. Just lacking a bit of X factor. Might have given JKH one more year under Jettas guidance down back.

Buckenaras rating Just his opinion but it is unbiased and based on premiership player standards
B-: Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Angus Brayshaw, Michael Hibberd, Kade Kolodjashnij, Jake Melksham, Bayley Fritsch, Steven May.

The manner in which you frame most of your comments backs up my comment. Hibberd was an AA player whose form appears to have tailed off putting him clearly outside the top 100 players in the league. Your comment would have the uninformed observer believe that he was never an elite player which he clearly was. This is a fan forum and indeed you are entitled to say what you want and how you want within reason. You just seem to be going out of your way to antagonise - if that floats your boat, good for you!
Was AA,. True and correct. Quite the opposite to what you say. The headline makes it sound like we are replacing a star. Too easy to be called a star at the Dees after one or two good seasons. Does not happen at the power clubs.

I have called him "Alien 3" for a while now...... ( Google the movie.... Absolutely no weapons)
Cant take a contested mark, cant get a crumb, cant make a tackle hurt, cant kick much more than 40m.
Spends more time shaking the hair out of his eyes than he does with ball in hand. Endeavor yes, talent no.
Cant see him making it.
As always though, i hope he makes a total fool out of me and becomes a star for the club.
Just because i dont rate him, doesnt mean i dont hope for the best for the kid. If i lose, the team wins and i will take that any day of the week.
Similar attitude here

The talk is a perfect replacement for Hibberd. Yeah, lets use our number three pick to replace someone lucky to be ranked in the AFLs top 200.

Green and Kemp with Steven being unlucky. Ruled him out for being a SA boy. Weightman as a top ten pick, no.

Welcome Adam. good gig if you can get it at MFC. No one really expects you to improve or work too hard on your game. No great need to kick or handball on non preferred side. Just go to training, be best 22 and you will have a few fans here. If you crack a game in the finals with us you will even be a hero.

keep, late maturer.

Pretty low averages for all the top tens.

Good news for 2020. Goodwin and Mahoney going for broke.

Looks exactly how an ambitious player at a good Club should look pre season. Well done. I reckon we have a player
