Removing players from the field is the only logical solution to congestion and should have happened 10-15 years ago

AFL grounds remain the same size as 120 years ago yet players are exponentially fitter not to mention the constant rotations

Removing players from the field will break up defensive zones because the area each defender will need to cover between opponents will be too large and so will force teams into man on man game plans

There will always be "loose defenders" but removing players from the field will limit their impact as there will be greater space for players to move into which they will not be able to cover

It will have a dramatic impact on the flow of the game without changing any fundamental rules relating to how the game is actually played.

16 a side is the minimum, I would consider taking it down to 15 or 14 or perhaps even further.

I would still keep the wings but remove one midfielder, one forward and one defender to start with (5-5-5) fewer midfielders at centre bounces will make it easier to clear the ball

Or we can refuse to change this, keep implementing rules that alter the fundamental nature of the game which have unintended consequences and don't address the issues they were brought in for and watch the game continue to devolve into an unentertaining rolling scrum of players with little room for individual brilliance and skill

Let’s have five a side then. Why can’t we leave the rules alone and stop wrecking the game? It was a great spectator sport before all the rule changes. Go back to the rules in the 1960s.

Not necessary and irrelevant to AVB's current foot injury

But relevant to the quoted reference: “The MFC website is a sad, unfunny joke”.

I just saw that - AFL website. The MFC website is a sad, unfunny joke.

Lets hope the report is accurate and it is short term. I am firmly in the camp of those who think he is a terrific player. His combination of steadiness and hardness is fantastic.

Please take the AFLW news to a different place. Intermingling with the AFL on the MFC website is annoying.

Just Great!!! Just when the cavalry arrives and we finally get some decent wingmen they want to take them away from us.

‘We don't want to be like soccer’: Alastair Clarkson’s radical solution to fix AFL scoring drought

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has urged the AFL to “pull a lever” and consider trialling 16-a-side rules to address the league’s dramatic scoring drop – because “we don't want to be like soccer”.

And the four-time premiership coach admits he and other coaches with a defence-first attitude have played a role as to why “no bugger can score anymore”.

Despite a raft of changes that were originally intended to promote goalkicking, AFL scoring reached a historic low in 2019, with the average team score being just 80.4 points – the lowest since 1967, when teams averaged 78.8 points.

Go back to the rules when big scores were kicked. Don’t invent new ways to stuff up our game!

I wouldn't be surprised if the government ban large gatherings. We're at the same point Italy were when they banned most gatherings. Sydney is quickly becoming a hot spot.

Just want to say one thing to those saying it's nothing more than a flu. Sure, it has a mortality rate of about 3%, flu has around 1%. It's not that most people will have mild symptoms, it's that fact that our most vulnerable people have no way to combat it. The flu has killed more this year so far because everyone has it, but the sick and elderly can get vaccines to help build up their immunity to it. They can't with the coronavirus, with a vaccine could be as far away as 18 months. Think of all those people getting it and clogging up the health system. That's the problem; that's why health experts are worried and are putting extreme measures in place.

    Sydney’s such a dirty place...

I'm guessing this plan is the member facing version. I'm sure the club has a far more detailed document that outlines the strategy and KPIs.

I'm personally happy to club has made it public, even if it isn't the whole plan. At least they can now be held accountable.

Who do you mean by ‘they’? And in what fashion do you suggest ‘they‘ be held accountable? Blow torch to the privates, or other accountability result?

We beat an unusually ordinary finals side in Hawthorn and a comfortable with themselves side in Geelong. Yes they were great wins for a success starved Club. But it was a step up in class when we came up against the Eagles. Geelong have addressed a lot of their issues since last year and the Hawks are just paddling. Injuries aside I cannot see we have addressed any of the issues the Prelim game exposed. Good sides hurt and learn from preliminary final defeats we seem to think it was good to get there.

Good for you for flying the flag. My story of support is somewhat similar but a few years older so I can remember as a 7 year old us winning in 64. I went straight over to the paddock and practiced drop kicks from full back.

We had beaten the Eagles at home only a few weeks before.

Didn't watch the game.. how was JKH

He ran out on a lot of leads but the players ignored him and kicked it to contests instead. Looks like the other players don’t have a lot of confidence in his disposals. I don’t either. He stuffs up a lot of kicks and hand passes.

  9. Goodwin cannot make a pathetic little speech after the game tonight. He needs to go. Last year Brisbane were down the ladder but you could see them building. Our team is not building. They’re demolishing any hope.

  10. Why does Lever look like he just got out of a prisoner of war camp? Puny, pale, unwell-looking. His arms and legs look wasted. Why hasn’t he been in the gym building up his physique in the 12 months he’s been injured/in rehab?

would like to see changes something like this

out- Petty, C.Wagner, Garlett, Smith, Lockhart.

in- Salem, Lewis, ANB, Weideman, JKH,

We missed some decent ball use coming out of defence terribly today. Salem and Lewis should help with that. Garlett is done and wont be missed. Weideman needs to play if he's fit, over Smith. we've had some young blokes like Lockhart and Petty play a couple of games, and now they need to go back, work on their games and press for selection again. there's a few more lucky to be holding a spot atm but they're time will come soon.

    Their not they’re

  13. Out: Spargo, both Wagners, Baker, Petty, Stretch. These players are below VFL level and should never play AFL again. Stretch couldn't make a decision in time to save his testicles if they were on fire.

Ins from: Salem, Neale-Bullen, Preuss, May, Lewis, Hannan, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Lever (if recovered from ankle sprain), Hibberd, Weidemann. These are AFL players.

And somebody please tell Jones to stop kicking rugby-style, up and under kicks into the forward line.

Can’t go with Weid at FF again. Send to CHB to get involved, run jump and punch the prune away or back to Casey with a clear target ... 4 x 3+ goal games in a row or no return to the seniors.

Also cannot play Hunt as small forward. Not his go at all. HBF/Wing or don’t play him.

And PLEASE put Fritsch back in the forwardline.

WE are,  the Most politically correct club,  in the AFL.

This translates into a very conservative Brand...  in Contradiction to the way,  'WE want to Play'.

Our roots over North side,   influnence our on-field Brand.    AND our recruiting decisions,  as well

We need to be a harder,  nastier,  'competitive'  Footy club.

Being unpleasant doesn’t translate into a better game plan, or faster, more skilled players. And what do you mean by our roots over North side? Broadmeadows? I hear they’re fairly tough there!

My issue with recruiting is that we don’t seem to scout well outside of Metro areas.

We have done more out of QLD, but the west and NT talent alludes us. We like blokes under our nose.

Otherwise they want to go home when things get tough.

Thanks mate. Totally forgot about him.

Footy players get injuries. It’s a contact sport. You can’t blame the coaches or the so-called conditioning staff for every injury or its continuation.
