Wow!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
What cracks me up is the evolution that has gone on with the responses... From debate to correction to fury to apathy to outright condescension

Well they can be forgiven for the RFA assumption, anyone could make that mistake really...

Yep, this whole excercise will have been bruising to say the least

Question that is equally relevant for the Footy Department

Of course, I'm not saying that at all But Freo low balling and then pulling out is something we clearly didn't forsee when we publicly started discussing the possibility of Jesse leaving. If we had then surely we would have played things differently and trotted out the "required player, under contract, has not officially requested a trade" lines publicly until an appropriate offer was made/accepted. Anyhow, after [censored] everyone off, my main point is that I don't think it'll be plain sailing/happy camping for 2019 after all this.

I agree with your points, which I think describe how we handled the situation after it was made public What I'm saying is that the result is a fail we would have wished to avoid, and I think there'll be lingering consequences for us into 2019, the least of which will be constant media focus/distraction and added pressure on a guy who'd prefer to avoid the spotlight

Farewell Jesse Hogan
All could have been pursued and agreed behind closed doors and then announced once complete How it was put into the public domain without being a done deal was Mahoney's choice (or loose lips from Jones and co maybe forced his hand) Just saying, if this outcome was a strong possibility then the deal wouldn't have been considered as it is a severe let down to Jesse

This situation is a massive fail on behalf of the MFC. We've publicly shopped an A grade player and it has ended in any embarrassing debacle and given air time to so called personal 'issues' in the public arena. While it may seem fine now as Bell and Co are publicly shamed as the cause, I imagine Jesse can't be happy and I suspect consequences of this mess to linger into 2019 for the MFC.

I'm pleasantly surprised that all of the criticism for this shambles is falling on Freo and Bell. The fact remains MFC have publicly shopped an A grade contracted player only for him to be rejected by his long time suitor - in and of it's own this would have been the worst potential outcome when first considering this move.

Official New Rule Changes for 2019
The hands in the back rule is going - we'll be back where we started with just a push in the back. Was unnecessary and confusing when it was brought in and no doubt confusing again when removed I'm predicting a disaster for umpiring interpretation, if Steve's explanation is anything to go by

2019 Forward options if JH out and SM in?
I'd like to see Sam Frost have a run up forward Seems like the type who'd be hard to match up on, tall with toe and a few years down back really builds the aerial contest strength And how was that barrel he unloaded i the final... Wow, good hoof Might be the next TMac...?

Hawks have offered 15 and Ryan Burton (2015 #19, 47 game defender, 2018, 23 games) for Chad Wingard 2 x First Rounders (albeit later) but Burton looks to have improved and is ready made. Port have knocked it back. Puts Freo's offer for JH in a bit more perspective - not that it was required

No Massive Goalsquare in 2019
Seriously though, I worry that a group of people that thought it was a good idea in the first place being senior people in the administration of our game It shouldn't have made it further than the "no such thing as a bad idea" ideation session facilitated by high priced external consultants

Mahoney should announce the MFC is going to refuse to trade Jesse to Freo on humanitarian grounds Going to that ramble is a danger to anyone's wellbeing!

Official New Rule Changes for 2019
No mention of the 10m protected area as a rule change Or did they just change the rule and stop paying it after the disgraceful Harmes decision at Geelong in Rd18
