To be honest it's not even in my top 100.

It wasn't even the worst in the march - the free against Max for hitting it out on the full when it pittone who did so and the insufficient intent free against Bowser were worse.

Dont get me wrong, it was right below me, so I had a perfect view and it was an absolute howler.

Brilliant tackle, that should have been awarded.

But, deliberately or accidentally, Kemp tilted his head toward the ground and under pressure, and with the noise about concussion (noise the AFL can seemingly ignore completely when it suits them) i can understand why the umpire made a mistake.

That's to say, wrong decision, but there were mitigating circumstances.

What makes that free worse in my book is not paying obvious frees, for example clear htb against Walsh when he fended off (cost us a shot at goal) and tracc get wrestled and held at one of the final stoppages 20 metres from our goal.

The latter cost us the game as there would have been no time for the blues to score again.

In my opinion, not nearly enough attention is paid to the frees THAT ARE NOT PAID, particularly those near the end of close games.

The 'they've put the whistle away' phenomena is one of the most ridiculous parts of AFL footy.

The umpires job is to pay frees that are there. Even if it doing so, arguably particularly if doing so, impacts the result.

Refusing to make a decision is a de facto decision.

Did you see the one where Curnow almost punched Rivers' head off his shoulders?  No free. Then seconds later I think it was Max barely touched a Carlton player's shoulder and a free was awarded at CHF for Carlton.  I think Riv even had to come off and get strapped up.  No doubt it has been mentioned on this or another thread before, but that was also up there.  Almost made me switch the TV off.

  2. Feel for Koz, it's like his brain went from "smother the ball" to "clean him up" to "ah actually no I can't do that anymore" which is where you see him push him off right at the end of the collision.  Looks like he's trying but has strong Byron instincts he's trying to overcome.

I don't think the AFL can let him escape without a week at the moment unfortunately.

I like the coaches award. Most accurate award in my books. AFLPA MVP is garbage. Brownlow is worse.

It’s interesting that of the top 25 we are only represented by 2 players. Over the past few seasons we have been well over-represented. This year I think it’s reflective of a more evenly distributed team effort.

Agree with your assessment of most accurate. AFLPA MVP is a worthless popularity contest, Brownlow is a biased AF midfielders award.

  4. Apologies if this has already been discussed at length, I haven't had a chance to read through this thread, but I just saw Rivers got a fine for a sling tackle.  Am I the only one (apart from Tom McDonald) who thought Rozee threw himself on the deck trying to milk the free?

    🤦‍♂️

When I was traveling through the States, once the locals hear you are from Tasmania they invariably want to talk about the Devil. I would tell them you had to pay an separate insurance premium to cover your home against a Tassie Devil spinning through it Taz style.  It was believed around 90% of the time, so this comes as no surprise.

  6. Jack Viney what a man.  After the game when the boys were about to head off the ground he grabbed Petracca, Salem and Hunter and made them run nto the complete opposite side of the ground to give out a few high 5s to the punters over there.  Made some kids very happy indeed!

  7. (This probably has its own thread somewhere) I hate to say it but I'm really not enjoying the Gawn Grundy setup.  Both are average forwards at best, so when one is in the ruck, you have a pretty useless player to stick somewhere.  Gawn's impact on games has gone through the floor, and I don't think Grundy has picked up the slack.  I don't think the team or either player is best served by having two specialist rucks in the team.  Doubt Grundy will ever be dropped, but I'd love to see JVR pinch hitting and having Max playing the same ruck minutes as he always has.  Feel like he's a wasted resource at the moment.  Just my opinion.

How do they break down, I cant work it out.

    Coach 1:

    Viney 5, May 4, Crisp 3, Fritsch 2, Mitchell 1

    Coach 2

    Viney 5, Salem 4, May 3, Gawn 2, Petracca 1

    Or something like that.

    Viney 5,5

    May 4,3

    Salem 4,0

    Crisp 3,0

    Gawn 2,0

    Fritsch 2,0

    Mitchell 1,0

    Petracca 1,0
