  1. Gutted at the result but think the defence did well and midfield were well on top. Forward conversion was missing but all in all a good performance. It was a good effort, the backline held up much better against their talls especially considering the outs. If we had played Preuss the result would be different.

  2. For all their dominance that quarter there’s less than a kick in it. When we went missing last year and 2017 we had big tallies kicked on us and were too far back to get in the game. A rest, tactical reset and hopefully we’ll be back in it again in Q3. They spent some petrol tickets catching up with us so hopefully we can build into it again

  3. I’ve no doubt Jack was up to similar hi jinks when he was with us but it seems Port have something of a culture problem right now. You’ve the Jack Watts stories, Sam Powell-Peper and his two highly publicised incidents, and there are rumours on their board that Dixon came back out of shape and Rockliff is having attitude problems. Would not be one bit surprised to see them drop sharply down the ladder this season

  4. The kid is gonna have a big shock to his system. He’s going to be a senior player over here, ‘Jonno’ retired this year, Sandilands on his last legs, Mundy & Ballantyne likely to be out too. Neale wanted out, and as their new star KPF there’ll be a lot of pressure on Jesse to provide leadership on field especially if, as expected, the Dockers are down the bottom again. One thing’s for sure there’ll be a heap more pressure on him to perform than there has been at the MFC this past couple of years.

works only if Freo are near enough to the bottom to ensure no other club takes him first.

If Hogan rejects the offer he doesn't play.

Big stakes and in a way a silly deal from Hogan's perspective in the sense that the picks are inter club... he's only interested in the length of contract and dollars per year.

So in short unless Freo end up bottom any deal from this year is on the table next year if not better.

As an aside I cannot understand why Hogan does not want to go to WCE at the end of next year instead of to the perennial cellar dweller that Freo could be destined to become.

Maybe it’s an ego thing? At Freo he would be a marquee player, best paid on the list and set up for life post-career. That’s leaving aside the other commercial opportunities he’s likely to get as face of the club. Freo will be rebuilding for a few years at least, and barring Fyfe & Walters, the players on their list would not be very highly paid, they’ve more space in the salary cap than we’re likely to have especially if Petracca, Gus & Oliver continue their upward trajectories and demand larger contracts in 2-3 years time. I also believe there would be less pressure on him, odd as that may sound; his potential team mates can’t hold a candle to him in talent terms, and their dysfunctional midfield will likely be blamed if he fails to eclipse his goal-scoring achievements at the MFC.

  6. So no Neale, no Hogan, Taberner & McCarthy leading their forward line again and RTB sitting in the coach box. No wonder their membership renewal emails are telling current members there are plenty of seats to upgrade to, they will be haemorrhaging members after the season they’ve just had, this debacle and WCE winning the flag. Absolute disaster for that club.

  7. Rumour doing the rounds is that Lachie Neale wants out of Freo and the Lions are into him big time, apparently a direct swap of pick 4 is on the table. Would pick 4 & 5, their first round picks, be enough to get Hogan to the Dockers?

In principle this argument as run by the likes of Roos seems sensible.

Unfortunately as much as the AFL likes to think of itself as the major code and that it will be forever and a day, it won't be.

The AFL is not run in a vacuum (the only vacuum is in Dill's big head).

It just opens up the young talent to other sports.

Cricket is now a real threat with more money and opportunity in the short form game, basketball is growing again and kids have big opportunities o/s, not to mention the huge cash in soccer for talented kids worldwide.

6 months is a long time for a kid (it basically  means a year in football terms). Will I go to cricket and get my couple of hundred k starting now (opportunity of millions in near future) or should I be running around playing park footy for another year with no guarantee's???

I believe we will look back on the McLaughlin era as the big error of football that started the rot & pushed it back to being a regional amateur sport like Gaelic football is now.

I just hope we get a Melbourne premiership whilst it's still a premier sport and means something.

By the way, anyone who thinks they can build a solid pathway around the country has rocks in their heads. They don't have the money and won't use what will be better spent lining their pockets.

A strange post, Gaelic football was always an amateur sport and never enjoyed popularity outside Ireland or expat communities. Footy is expanding at the moment and is the predominant code in most of the country, however the AFL needs to rid itself of the delusion that it can expand overseas. It won’t, and any idea that it ever could was simply a pipe dream.

I don’t post, just read. Pretty sure my decade old BigFooty account has zero posts against it.

Sadly for them they have no mechanism to ban me. I would love to get in there and wind them up, but nah.

Might be better off, they’re certainly a thin-skinned bunch.

Thinking of indulging in some salty Crows tears on BigFooty. They honestly have the best melts out of any of the clubs. Puts D’land to shame!

Good luck with that they banned me for a little gloating in their ‘Deathriding Melbourne’ thread.
