  1. Not sure if trading Hogan now shows we are weak. Need to act in the best interests of the club so if Jesse indicates he's leaning towards leaving and we think we can get a better deal now then trade him now.
  2. And Jeff Farmer was family related. Maybe all players that leave Melbourne leave due to family reasons.
  3. Thanks Wooddy So Barrett goes along the lines of what many on this board are suggesting and that's if we feel he is going next year then trade him now. I could not agree more.... Two first rounders inside the top half dozen picks will get it done so Barrett says. Freo more likely than WCE as they will be pushing hard for Lobb. I know everyone is suggesting that we keep our distance from Jesse at the moment because his father is ill. Fair enough. We also need to keep in mind that Jesse decided to put contract talks on hold many months ago. This was after he indicated he wanted to stay in Melbourne. Let's be realistic here. How many players who indicate their willingness to re-sign with a club only to then put contract talks on hold actually stay with there respective club. History says none or very few. I'm sure the club knows this situation better than most with our track record.
  4. Agree we need a ruck forward. It's obvious we can't carry Gawn and another pure ruck in the same 22. Hence my interest in Vickery. Vardy maybe. Witts is basically in upgrade in Spencer.
  5. Awesome ProDee. Love it. As for Deludio wouldn't touch him. Agree with Richmond being stuffed.
  6. We are no way the third most attractive club in the league of or Victoria for the matter. Mid say we are in the bottom four or five. When is the last time a quality player came out and said "I want to go to Melbourne". We convinced Mitch Clarke by offering him a stupid contract. Jeff White was another. He was a 20 year old and was the highest paid player at the club which caused lots of issues amongst the playing group at the time.
  7. WCE would love a young key forward coming through right now with Kennedy getting on towards 30 and LeCras almost finished. Kennedy as a deep forward, Hogan as a CHF and Darling taking the third best defender.
  8. Loving everyone's posts. For what it's worth. 1). If Jesse indicates he wants to go I'm sure the MFC will explore possible trade. 2). If Jesse is undecided he will play for us into next year. I can't see him saying yes I want to go but will play one more year in Melbourne. Does not make any sense for Jesse to do this. 3). Freo and WCE will find money in the cap if he wants a trade. These days clubs can bank salary cap, contracts can be back ended etc. Some existing players may take a drop in pay etc etc. Freo for example have Pav retiring, Clarke, Barlow and Ballentine potentially looking to move, Mayne basically gone. There's a couple of million or there abouts just there. 4). Both Freo and WCE can orgestrate a trade with the MFC if he wishes to be traded now. I am sure both clubs and have players and picks to give up. Neal, Fyfe, Darling, Gaff, Shuey etc etc. 5). History says players who put contract talks on hold most often leave. Dangerfield, Judd, Franklin, Scully, Frawley, Farmer. Cloke and Boak both put contract talks on hold and stayed but not too many do. In my view he is undecided otherwise he would have asked for a trade this year. Will he decide to go back home? If this saga drags on into next year I would say yes.
  9. Looks like Freo will get second round compensation for Mayne. Don't think it would be too difficult to trade this pick up three or four spots so they are in the first round. This would see them in a position to trade 2016 and 2017 first rounders. All clubs want to give up nothing to get something in trades. Everyones a winner in trade week.......
  10. Oh thanks. I guess that's a bonus. We will have to trade however.
  11. Destination club for some players. Pitty that there all average ones. Hibberd, Melksham, Bugg, Kennedy, Garlett. Not saying that there bad players but it's obvious to all that there not in the top bracket mould.
  12. I believe Barlow is contracted to Freo next year.
  13. My guess is that talkes have taken place as well. Agree with you America, Freo currently has little to give up in the way of picks. Can't trade 2017 first round at this point. Also bet that they are not wanting to part with Neal, Fyfe etc etc.
  14. Dee's have been interested in Barlow since middle of the year and have been in dialogue with his management since. All indications point to him being at the Dee's next year. Having said that anything can happen in trade week. I mean who would have thought Wells would have been offered a three year deal at his age and with his history of injuries.
  15. The good money seems to be on Jesse playing for us next year. Starting the season without a contract for 2018 and beyond. Like everyone here I'm sick of this crap. We had 12 months of uncertainty in 2011 with Tom Scully, in 2014 it was James Frawley and in 2017 at this point it will be Jesse Hogan. Is it just me or is it only the MFC who goes through this every three years it seems.... Who will it be in 2020??? I know other clubs lose players. Do they lose 21 year olds like us? Was looking forward to a year that was focussed on the rise of the MFC next year and not a bloody Jesse Hogan media circus every week.
  16. Casey favourites with the bookies. Casey $1.47 Footscray $2.65
  17. Looks set to drag on and on... http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-20/manager-says-torn-hogan-unlikely-to-leave-melbourne?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News
  18. Guess they pretend they do...
  19. If a trade with Freo or WCE cannot be brokered then Jesse has the following options. 1) re-sign with us. 2) take his chances in the draft in the hope to fall to Freo or WCE. 3) nominate another club that we can negotiate a trade with. A trade with Freo or WCE can always be orgestrated if they are willing to give up quality to get quality.
  20. Getting off the topic for a minute. GWS have been in the comp five years. They have lost Tyson, Frost, O'Rourke, Gorringe, Jaksch, Philips, Sumner, McCarthy, Treloar, Miles, Hombsch, Boyd and I'm sure many more. They will also lose a couple more this year in Marchbank and Steel They Could be playing in a GF in two weeks. Have another five picks in the first two rounds this year. Trades will see that maybe go to 7 or 8. No wonder why clubs such as us have found it tough to rebuild with all the young talent being snapped up before we got the chance to draft them. Not a good look for the AFL who has always believed in equalisation
  21. Gee wiz. They are going to have to let a few players go in order to trade back into the draft. There list is not looking too flash with Pavlich gone, Munday, Sandilands coming to the end along with a few others. Ballentine, Barlow and Mayne on the way out. They'll get bugger all for these blokes.
  22. Jesse does not have to make a decision on his future intentions this year. The MFC would preferably want some direction so it can plan for the future either with or without him. Bottom line is Jesse has a contract for next year. If he asked for a trade this year one of or both Freo and WCE would have to throw everything but the kitchen sink at us in order for a trade to be facilitated. It would have to be some sort of mega deal that would be too hard for us to refuse otherwise he plays for us next year.
  23. So looks like Hibberd will be done for pick 26 maybe. Melksham will be a new recruit. Barlow looks like a good chance. Thompson or another experienced player as a free agent to continue development of young blokes. Wouldnt mind Clarke as a free agent to help out Gawn in the ruck. Vardy a possibility but his played one of two games out of Geelongs last 45 games
  24. Might not be a bad thing trying to get some experience on board to compliment our young talented list.
  25. Guess they'd have to trade back into the first round this year so can use next years first round pick.
