On what planet would we trade Petty for McAdam? One is out of contract and 28 years old. One is contracted for TWO MORE YEARS and is a 23 year old key position star.

I suggest Tomlinson staying is more to do with Petty playing forward permanently and us needing another experienced big bodied defender. We would get absolute peanuts for Tomlinson which is a crying shame. He has a role to play.

Haha exactly. I cannot see it happen at all. Would also be a massive risk for Crows with the injury Petty currently has.

BBB will retire under an agreed injury payout. TMac will be a useful VFL player next year and can be given a coaching assistant role. (Mentoring JVR and Jefferson for example).

Both would make sense! Obviously as long as BB agreed to it. Be interesting to see what happens.

On the topic of exit interviews, who do we think are tradeable players?

    Salem, JJ, any other?

I would never trade Salem. The challenge with Salem is finding a role for him that benefits the team. We need the ball in his hands as much as possible. Would love to see him moved into the midfield.

Forwards- done to death I know.

BBB and T Mac great fellas (and thank-you) but their time is done. Gun forwards hard to draft

    1) Could Petty, Joel Smith, JVR, Fritsch, Chandler and Kozzy combined form the basis of a successful forward line?

    2) I have watched closeley when Bowey drifts forward. Great shot at goal, good crumbing, defensive forward skills excellent.  Is he worth trialling over pre-season as a forward pocket?

How do we move on both T-Mac and BB when they are both contracted?

Hunt is an athlete and not a footballer.   No defensive aspect to his game and doesn't relish a physical contest.

He should've been cut last year.

Way off here mate, he's hard as nails IMO. Didn't you see him go back with the flight against Acres last weekend and get smashed.

In relation to the topic, is he another footballer on this list that Goodwin hasn't got the best out of? I'd love to hear what Paul Roos thinks of him.

I'd have no doubt in playing him in defence. That's where he's most suited IMO. He's kicking and decision making would need work, but his run off half back was valuable to our team. I also thought he defended pretty well as well.

He's not bad up forward just don't know if he has the football IQ to play there.

If Wallis plays out of the square May might go to him. Lever is prob better for Naughton. Gotta make sure they can’t move it as easily as they did into their f50 and hopefully that negates most of the difficulties our defence will have.

May to Naughton, Tomo to Bruce and I reckon Pig will get Wallis mate.

  7. Just the outside run that we craved and he's quick!! Obviously he has a lot of work to do on his skill execution and decision making but hopefully that will come as he continues to develop and mature(only 24 years old and only played 70 odd games I think). Great pick up!

  8. Interesting name to bring up, I'm genuinely 50/50 on him. I honestly don't think he would be in our best side with everyone fit right now. How much can he improve in the future? However, I don't think he's gettable at all anyways. Blues need to keep their mids. Nice idea though.

This would not surprise me. I really feel for this guy. We was the perfect 3rd tall option for us when fit but unfortunately for him and us he is one of the unluckiest men in football when it comes to injuries.

Agree mate, hope they aren't true and we can at least get another year out of him. Always gets the best out of himself and I love what he brings.

Either as coach or coach's mentor.

    Straight swap with Port?

Would he play well with Goody?

He's contracted for another year so doubt anything will happen.

I legit cannot in the world find a simple Match up for McDonald.

The only reason I can think of is that we are now officially tanking for Noah Anderson.

It's an absolute joke that Omac continues to get a game. Yet to find a supporter who thinks he deserves hit spot.

Then you have the problem as you"ve stated, who the F*** does he match up on?

I think the majority of Dees fans recognize we have weaknesses in midfield skill, outside run/pace and delivery forward, as well as us being in our 'window' as of now. I get that there's other areas we may debate with each other about, but I feel those things are pretty clear. So how do we improve those areas quickly enough that we can make the most of our chances now? This article raises a hypothetical that I scoffed at at first but have wavered a bit since thinking about it more.

Why trading Angus Brayshaw could fix Melbourne's midfield

"But Brayshaw personifies Melbourne's midfield issues - fantastic in the contest, tough as old boots and able to find the pill, but unreliable by foot. He has committed the 11th most turnovers in the league this year, with his disposal efficiency under implied pressure and physical pressure the second-worst and fourth-worst of the league's top 50 ball-winners."

It goes on to suggest trade scenarios which would see us losing Gus, and possibly a pick, to return Lachie Whitfield.

    My questions are these:

    - Is Gus 'untouchable' given we have Oliver, Harmes & Viney in the same role? Plus, with Sparrow and Dunkley potentially coming through in the same vein, others as depth etc.

    - What do we make of Gus' massive form slump this year? You could argue it coincides with him attending less centre bounces, but there's other aspects to that as well such as his concussion history, his lack of accountability this year and of course, our lack of outside run which sees him being used there. Is he injured this year? Unhappy? Something seems up with him.

    - Do we need to make such a big move or do we rely purely on tweaks to game plans, roles and structures in the offseason? I guess that boils down to trust in the footy department to fix things, which I imagine is at a low point given our performance this year.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't be trading him nor do I think the club will be.

    You can fix kicking/decision making.

Confidence looks to be a massive problem also.

I'm hoping it's just a matter of getting this season over and done with, big pre season and we'll see Gus firing again next season.

Just wondering if anyone on here has heard anything about the contract status for Frosty? He's still unsigned and I can't find any information anywhere to show that they are even in talks. I would imagine he's one on our list who could have a bit of currency, so are we holding off to see if he could net us something, knowing we also got OMac, Petty and even Hore as taller defenders, assuming May and Lever are our keys and those others are pieces to fit around them.

If they do see him as potential trade bait, what's his worth? We paid an 2nd rounder for him but got back a late 2nd and a 3rd. Remarkably we got Frost, OMac and ANB for a pick who ended up being Pat McKenna, who made his way to us a few years later.

Think he deserves another contract. He's in our best 22 and their is so much room for improvement with him.

Why?  No forward has kicked a bag on him this year. Not even Jenkins,  who if you believe dl destroyed him. Sure he had the better of him but only kicked 2 (and 4 the nex week on one of the best defenders in the AFL).

Jenkins is [censored] and he kicked 2.3 on him. IMO Oscar isn't in our best 22 and I have fears he might not be up to AFL standard anymore.

Either way, I'd be surprised if he plays when we already have May, Frost, Lever & Petty.

  15. 1 hour ago, binman said:

I can actually see Petty not coming up and Omac coming in and standing Shache (or perhaps Naughton deep). Lever to play the intercept role and May standing Naughton or Shache but licence to attack. Salem to play up the ground. Frost on Dickson.

Not sure where that leaves Jones though. Even if Petty comes in not Omac, with Jones at HB we have 2 too many defenders so perhaps neither will play.

Binman if we were to put Omac on Naughton it wouldn't matter who was intercepting he would take 10 Marks and kick 5. Need a solid defender May or Frost on him. Gotta stop the bloke for jumping.

Hoping to see Petracca, ANB, Dunkkley and Lockhart on the bench (with Petty making way and joining OMac and the Wagners as emergencies).

Just not sure we need May, Frost, Lever and Petty in the side, let alone against the Dogs (and certainly not OMac on top of that).

Agree mate, Doggies have smallish Forward line!

  17. Lever playing VFL this week, so what will the changes be?

Do we think Casboult will play fwd? They'll have a very small fwd line if not.

Makes me think we'll bring in either J.Wags or Lewis for Petty. Purely because of match ups.

    What does everyone else think?
