  1. Now Demetriou is getting desperate. After telling us we are naive to think that AFL Clubs could consider tanking, he's now warning coaches they might lose their jobs, and that Clubs will lose TV exposure, and drop members and sponsorships if they don't go flat out.(along with a few other unrealistic, hollow threats). Poor old Kouta, he must be so naive to think that the Club he loves could possibly even think about not beating Melb on Sunday, but I suppose Demetriou knows more than he does about the inner workings of Carlton. Melbourne should make sure no-one connected with the Club makes gaffes like Kouta. The official line must be...."of course we'll go flat out.....we want to carry winning momentum into next season". When Sunday comes, however, our footy dept must be deadly serious about giving us the worst possible chance.
  2. I'll chip in $20. (saved a lot this year in the "Demon incentive plan", but will be up for a tenner on Sunday!)
  3. I'm not saying that it was predictable that the farcical match would be Melb/Carl. I just predicted(more than 2 years ago, on this forum), that a ridiculous situation was likely to arise in rnd 22, where 2 teams would meet ,with both sides being in a position where they MUST NOT WIN. It was going to be somebody, and unfortunately it's us.
  4. Well, it's official now, the farcical match of the last two centuries is fixtured as the last match of the home and away rounds in 2007.....at twilight on a Sunday. Well done, AFL, but you'll never admit you've created a stupid, but predictable, situation.
  5. [quote name='sylvinator' date='Aug 25 2007, "next week is going to be a farce." "both teams supporters actually wanting the other side to lose". I don't think either team's supporters will want the other team to LOSE!!!!!! I agree that the AFL should have foreseen the possibility of this farce occurring, and not created rules to allow it.
  6. We MUST change our tactics on point kick-ins. A good starting point would be to copy the opposition's tactics each week. We are falling down so badly each week in this fundamental test of basic coaching strategy. When Wardy kicked that shocker to Brownie (who was pulled offthe ball while not in possession), the turnover goal changed the game.
  7. That's wrong! The crucial thing is that Carlton MUST win another game. If not this weekend, then against us. I don't want them to get the coveted priority(no. 1 draft)pick. The Tigers really deserve no.1(unless they happen to beat Ess.......then we really deserve it!!) Helll! Carlton beat us twice last year, when we would otherwise have finished top 4, Carlton would have beaten us the first time in '07 but for our straight kicking, their crooked kicking, and a bit of help for us(for a change), from the umps. Those who really care about our future, and think logically about it, want our match committee to ensure that WE DON'T WIN EITHER OF THE LAST TWO GAMES.
  8. 'Madness' It seems you may have comprehended that minor component of this thread.
  9. Perhaps 426 would have shown a bit if given a chance. Even when given a game, he still had less than 50% game-time. But Juice is a class above.
  10. 'Bring-Back-Powell' ] JJC, Will you be going to this match? And if so will you be cheering on Carlton? Of course I'll be there. I can't stop barracking for Melbourne. I just hope our Football Dept has a more sensible and dispassionate attitude!
  11. I agree, Grazman. Sylvanator, I think it's VERY important to us, though less so than it is to Carlton. It's even more important to Richmond that we don't let Carlton get away with it again. Hell! They beat us twice last year and put us out of the top 4, wrecking our premiership chances. They can beat us in round 22 in 2007! The only reason we beat them earlier this year was favourable umpiring(for once), accurate kicking by us, and crooked kicking by them. Let's get serious! You can have this one, Carlton! We'll wallop you in '08!!!!
  12. 'Cranky Franky' One reason for the lack of forward options is because we keep on playing Miller back(on star forwards), then drop him to the seconds, where he does well forward , then promote him and play him back. He leads and provides a target very well, similarly to Hansen and Richo. We miss him when he's down back. This talented player has been mis-handled by Danners and his disciple, Bomber. (very much like Thompson, Jolly and Snake were mishandled).
  13. I posted this topic on 5th Aug, long before "Distance Demon" and "Ash 30" posted on the same topic, and which I feel strongly their posts should have been merged with mine. I re-iterate my contention (in which few Demonlanders showed interest)... WHICHEVER SIDE WINS ROUND 22 BETWEEN MELB AND CARLTON HAS THE WEAKER(OR MOST NAIVE) CLUB LEADERSHIP!!!!!!!
  14. ['Ash 30' This "new" topic should be merged under the title of my Aug 5th post entitled "Match of the Century".
  15. See my Topic thread on "MATCH OF THE CENTURY", which was considered barely worth a comment by most Demonlanders, and ridiculed by a few.
  16. We still haven't got the knack of point kick-ins. Nearly every time Collingwood kicked in, they'd find a string of loose men and go into attack. When we kicked in, there were no options, so we went short and ended up in desperate defence. When are we going to learn that point kick-ins MUST be taken quickly????? If we'd kicked in half as well as they did, we'd have won by 3 goals. This is an important part of coaching which I hope will be addressed by our new coach.
  17. A great example of why the torpedo should be practised and encouraged in specific situations was Jason Gram's torp in the dying moments of last Fri's` game v the Dogs. No time left, 1 point down, and the ball in the back line. Best tactic?? Longest kick possible...a torp, hoping for a forward to mark. Sure enough, Reiwoldt marked, and fell short with his goalshot by an inch. Logical thinking nearly won the match.. A flat ban on torps, and they would have lost instead of drawing......season over! Perhaps Reiwoldt should have torped............
  18. Sorry, Beelzebub, I wasn't having a go at you,I know it wasn't you that raised the topic of the "Spoon". I just wanted to re-direct the conversation to the likely vital importance of not beating Carlton in round 22. It seems some of the respondents on this thread under-estimate it!
  19. This discussion has nothing to do with the "spoon". The Tigers have that all parcelled up. The crucial thing is, that Carlton MUST win another game! We can win ONE game, IF they win one. This is very important to our chances of future success.
