AFLW Round 5 - Melbourne V GWS
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Dee Gee's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Watching that game,I couldn't help but think the Umpires had been encouraged to help the local team win.A bit of success in Western Sydney helps promote Australian football there. The free kick count was grossly in their favour despite Melb having far more of the ball. On the rare occasions the ball went inside their 50, you could see they were just itching to pluck out a free in front. Sure enough, their only goal in the second half came from a free for which the commentators couldn't fathom the cause. That proved to be the winning goal. They got a 50 m penalty that was at least 75 metres(3 kick lengths). Our 50 m penalty was 40 m.,judiciously stopped out of scoring range. The commentators were glaringly obviously hoping for a Western Sydney win. Kelli Underwood's biased, nasal ,cliche-ridden drawl was nauseating. Is Nathan Burke somehow connected to the Giants? Seemed like it. -
Post Match Thread vs. Doggies
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
What about those bullet-like passes( one on the left foot) from Chunky. Pure class! -
Remember that 50 metre left foot goal from Bernie Vince at Geelong during our 2015 victory?! Inspiring!

Leading wicket taker, at a good average ,in last year's Sheffield Shield. Deserved selection. Should get another chance.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
I reckon he was the only one to think of this excuse. Or perhaps he was the only one not too ashamed to pretend he was scared of injections. Everyone seems to forget that Essendon players are probably still benefitting from the effects of the supplements three years ago.I compare it to the gradual build up of strength in recruits after several pre-seasons. The Bombers had an accelerated bulk-up,and it's still helping. Weve got two of them. I hope it helps us. -
THE HUNT FOR A RED HOT RUCKMAN
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It usually takes too long to develop an effective ruckman from a young age. The last decade's most successful club ( the Tassie /Waverley Hawks) have a successful formula. They let other clubs groom them, then take them when they're mature. The ones that come immediately to my mind are Byrne, Salmon, Everett, MacEvoy, Ceglar...and several others..(remind me, please). We've done well with big Max.Let's do everything in our power to keep him on long contracts. I think Spencer is a good back-up, and I guess we're trying to develop Mitch King. I don't think the Scorps back-up guy,Declan Keilty) is tall enough. Perhaps Hawthorn's tactic is the way to go, rather than using early draft picks on 18y.o. beanstalks. -
Despite this great start, I'm not 100% confident. I might have a nibble at the $12. for SA. As you suggest, Titan, the Aust batting is thin apart from Warner and Smith.

Jack Trengove is the reason AHG is our major sponsor. Inside information. -
1956 - WHEN DEMONS RULED (PART ONE)
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
First four games AWAY! On grounds so different from the MCG. We won them all! There's a lesson there! -
Thanks Dee spencer I didn't realise he's 26. I thought he was about 22. I guess all the knowledgeable detractors knew that. I was seeking information, so I should have checked Wikipedia. I reckon he'll go well in the WAFL.

I'm interested to know why it's so ridiculous, but thanks for your input.
-
Great.... you obviously have watched Kommer closely, and are so sure he's not up to it you can ridicule my post. Please fill me in with what you've noticed about him.

I was pretty impressed by this guy. His career has been thwarted badly by injury. I don't know if he's over it. He showed incredible ,Viney-like ,desperation in the games I saw him. Essendon have to delist some players who might have the goods to fit in all the returning banned players. Have any other Demonlanders noticed him? Does anyone know if he's over his injuries?

Someone said on SEN today that Jake Carlile's sister is getting married on that Saturday. I presume she'll invite all her brother's footy teammates! The fixture change might have stuffed Jake.

THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT DEMONLAND
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I learn a lot from Demonland.( with appropriate filtering!). I particularly appreciate some of the editorial-type posts, which I think are top class. But there are many thoughtful and knowledgeable posters, whose input I find valuable. Thanks so much Nasher, WJ and Scoop. We're all hopeful, optimistic Demons! -
I've heard that Ted Junior,(David's Dad), would probably have won the Brownlow Medal in (?) 1944 or 45, if the award hadn't been suspended during the later war years. He was busy finishing his Med Degree, and playing top grade footy as well, and apparently had a great season about then. He was a highly respected physician at the Alfred Hospital, as well a modest and likeable fellow. By the way.....how many Demonlanders know this? Don Cordner was a GP in Eltham. Part of his job was delivering babies in that area. One of his deliveries was Jack Grimes' Dad(?Mum), from Hurstbridge. That made them Demons supporters. How I wish Neeld didn't wreck Jack's career by making him captain too soon. I just hope Jack supports the Dees forever. He got his 100 games, so hopefully he'll sire 5 or 6 sons who want to be Demons(but I wouldn't blame him if he directed them elsewhere.)
-
Jack...I'd love to know whether the Cordnerwho played in the inter forum game was Ian or Chris, both of whom played with distinction for Melb Uni and the Victorian amateurs. Perhaps it was Rhodes scholar Chris, who is a keen Demon follower and contributor to newspaper articles. I'd be interested to know if they are Demonlanders. Perhaps they're reading this!

AFL Preliminary Final Weekend 2016
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Cards13's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Bulldogs remind me so much of the Demons of '87. Fanatical running and tackling machines. I half expected them to be beaten by a goal after the siren when they were 5 points up with a couple of minutes to go. They'll be rank underdogs next week. If they beat Sydney, I reckon it will add weight to the argument that we'd have beaten Carlton in the '87 GF. -
I thought McInerney looked hopeless. 22!!! I thought he must have been 19. IHe did take one good mark and goal, but otherwise looked slow and unco. I'm a Spencer fan as a back-up to Max, but he disappointed me against that short fat Willy ruckman on Sunday. I'm sure I'll see more from Spencil this Sunday.

Ferreira beat Papley, Parish, Mathieson,Curnow, Scache etc in the Morrish last year. I can see why. Recruit him! I remember saying the same thing about Aaron Davey when he played against Sandy in a Final for Port Melb the year before we recruited him. I actually requested to sponsor Flash if we recruited him, and was granted my request when we did. My mate and I were his sponsors throughout his career.I've got the same hunch about Aloysio Ferreira. PS ... also felt strongly we should recruit Caleb Daniel.

This guy impressed me yesterday. Has there been a thread about him? I can' t find one. How old is he? Where is he from? If he' s under 25, I reckon the Demons should think about rookying him. He showed flashes of brilliance. How much on field time did he get? He seemed to go missing at times, but perhaps that was because he wasn't on the ground. He was "23rd man." How is that different from the other interchange? Did other Demonlanders notice him?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOEL SMITH
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was very impressed with"SOS"s form yesterday. I'd be very surprised if he's not upgraded next year. He looks to me as if he could be a very useful contributor to our backline next season. Could he play midfield? His attack on the ball, his decision making, and his disposal all impressed me. I was a great admirer of his dad Shaun's guts, standing his ground in "the hole" to be crashed by the likes of Lockett. Shaun Smith, like another brave Demon hero of mine, Steven Icke, was a fantastic transfer from North. I'm so glad we have Joel as a Demon. -
Every losing team doesn't face a 20:5 differential when they out -possess the opposition. The rare teams that do counter this extraordinary anomaly have a right to ask why. Some people get a warm fuzzy feeling saying "the 20:5 differential had no effect, what a fair, unbiased supporter I am, not criticising the umpires"! I think we should try to find out why this happens. We lost to North and the West Coast because of repeated "bad luck" with umpiring decisions. We'd be in the eight but for the umpires in those two games. We outplayed both those teams. Carlton outplayed us, but they had a dream run like we've never had, against us.
