Yep fair enough re injury, but how would you manage him next season? The same question remains. Unless the suggestion is that he's only been reduced by injury and age is having no effect?

My expectation is that Goodwin will return him to the midfield, probably on a wing for most of the time and he'll have the odd run with role as required.  If he's fully fit I'd expect that his role would be not too different to 2015 and the first part of this year.

  2. He sustained a fairly significant injury to his shin in the middle part of the season which required some rest.  Our developmental stage meant that he was needed to play through this when some time out would have been beneficial.  An injured Vince was deemed to be better than a fit alternative hence he played on, showing a distinct decline in pace and condition as the season wore on.  That is why he wasn't considered to play on Dangerfield last week.

    Should come in for Kent.

Yes, the one I was most surprised to see included.  I think he's been quite disappointing this season apart from the odd cameo, usually once the game has been decided.

  4. Had the great displeasure of viewing this live. No votes for Jones, Vince, Viney and Gawn based on their pathetic first half contribution of 21 disposals between them.

    6. Tom McDonald - at least he always tries

    5. Viv Michie - probably our best in the first half and kept cracking in

    4. Jack Watts - made some mistakes but had a crack

    3. Ben Newton - thought he had a dip

    2. Billy Stretch - worked really hard

    1. Jack Grimes - best of the rest

  5. 1. How did you start following the Demons? About 10 years old, everybody else went for Tigers or Blues. Mu junior footy coach took us to a game at the G - Melbourne v Carlton. The Demons lost narrowly to a very good Carlton team and I was hooked. Big Carl was C/C.

    2. Who was your very first favourite player and why? I had the duffle coat with Gerard 3 Healy emblazoned on the back circa 1982. He was a star, shame he didn't hang around. Number 2 was on my footy jumper.

    3. Best moment as a fan? Round 22 1987 - I was in Year 12 and went to the game with my school groundsman who was a mad Demon fan as well. Best day ever. Caught the train home and never had a better ride on the old iron horse!

    4. Worst moment as a fan? 1987 Prelim final - a game we had many chances to win and only one chance to lose and the rest is history.

    5. Anything else you would like to share? My son is 13 and has been following the Dees since birth. He has only vague recollections of our last finals appearance. I told him not to feel too bad - I had to wait until I was nearly 18 before I got to see the Demons in a final!

  6. He's a first season key forward playing in a pretty average side who has kicked at least one goal every game he has played this season. He was beaten by Hurley today - Hurley has beaten plenty of good AFL players. The body language could improve but we are a much better side with him.

  7. Can you find us an example closer to McCartin's size & weight? Cause I don't remember Dale ever looking like he had as high skin folds as McCartin. Paddy's also said he's had blackouts before not managing it correctly.....

Nathan Bassett was not quite as big as McCartin (190 and 88) but was diagnosed as type 1 in 1997. He managed over 200 games and made All-Australian.

  8. It was a bad mistake he made late in the game today but no poorer than the Jones decision to play on (take the "advantage") from the free kick a few minutes earlier. Both cost us dearly today.

  9. One thing that I really noticed, which has been an issue for a while, was that we often lacked the guy with explosive pace to open up the game when things were a bit stagnant. They were able to do it a few times with O'Brien and Swan, but we didn't have that element to break the play open in a low scoring game.

This is what stood out for me. Crying out for a line breaker. A little bit too pedestrian right across the ground.

  10. 6. Howe - unbelievable game by him today

    5. Viney - consistent throughout

    4. Tyson - set it up

    3. Pederson - can't recall a better effort from him in what has been a pretty good season thus far.

    2. N. Jones - a really solid captain's game

    1. Watts - work rate in the last was a sight to behold.

I'd have loved to have got Vince in as well.

  11. In the 7 year period 1990-96, Fitzroy won 38 games in total (3 wins in total in their last two seasons). They had a best finish of 10th, in a then 14 team competition. In the 7 year period 2007-13, Melbourne has won 34 games and had 2 draws, with a highest finish of 12th in a then 16 team competition. If we don't get a priority pick then it would be difficult to see them ever being handed out again. Irrespective of who is at fault or how poorly we have recruited or developed, it is clear we are challenging all sorts of VFL/AFL records for poor performance.

  12. Terrible news. Rowdy has made an enormous contribution to the game, and especially to our club. His record as a coach was outstanding given the circumstances the club found itself in during his tenure (board upheavals, financial and facilities). He was also a magnificent player whose first knee injury in the second last game of 1981 almost certainly cost Essendon the flag. More than that he is great human being! All the best to Neale and his family.

  13. Not quite on the 2013 ND, but Knightmare has added his 2014 Power Ratings and has Billy Stretch at number 10. Looks like we might need to offer up a first rounder, unless we are bottom 2 or 3. I doubt we'll be allowed to get away with the Viney strategy again.

  14. At the time that's the way it was seen by a lot of people, I doubt him getting drafted was for him to hold Trenners hand.

    19 - RICHMOND - Luke Tapscott

    DOB: 28/06/91, Height: 180cm, Weight: 86kg

    Recruited from: Orroroo/North Adelaide (SA)

    Draft range: 8-24

    Meet Luke Tapscott

Richmond won't find many players with better foot skills than Tapscott. The powerfully-built midfielder/forward has been compared to Lion Daniel Rich and is widely acknowledged as the best kick in the draft, capable of thumping the ball more than 60 metres. The Tigers are massive fans of the 2009 All-Australian, but would also consider talls Jake Carlisle and Ben Griffiths, and the pacy Ryan Bastinac. Tapscott has strong hands, ball-winning ability and is fierce at the ball.

The above is from Burgatron's 2009 Phantom draft. We took him at 18. EQ also had him in her top 25 (at 23). He went about where most of the "experts" thought he would.

  15. I heard Denham this morning on SEN mention that were now looking at Dom Tyson. I then heard from somebody else that this is right and it involves Blease and an exchange of picks. Has anybody else heard anything about it? From memory Tyson is coming off a knee, but he can play. Was keen to head to Richmond I believe after his first year at GWS.
