  1. Now that the pre season games are done and dusted I thought I would choose our team rnd 1.

    B: GARLAND, MARTIN, WARNOCK

    HB: FRAWLEY, RIVERS, BUCKLEY

    C: BRUCE, MCLEAN, MORTON

    HF: GREEN, MILLER, DAVEY

    F: WONAEAMIRRI, BATE, JETTA

    FOLL: SPENCER, MCDONALD, JONES

    IC: BARTRAM, MOLONEY, DUNN, JOHNSON

    EMREG: CHENEY, PETTERD, BENNELL

Damn Grimes another back injury it doesn't look good that's a big blow I was expecting big things from him.

  2. I don't rate our forward line at all.

Until we get Robbo and Watts back I can't see us kicking anymore than 12 goals a game.

Sylvia isn't a forward's bootlace. He should be in the midfield but you have to work hard to do that so I don't see Sylvia becoming a midfielder ever.

    Newton makes Sylvia look consistant.

    Miller is a battler.

    Davey doesn't do enough.

I have hope for Aussie and Bate but Bate has to show more consistancy.

  3. Don't forget, the Bulldogs had 31 scoring shots to our 13. Had it been a dry day, things could have been very ugly indeed.

Skilful sides are better in the wet, so I don't think that is generally the case. It's a myth that the rain brings a poorer team closer to it's opposition it creates a greater divide cause their ball handling is so much better.

  4. Pathetic. The sooner they sack Newman the better. Billy Brownless should take his place and Crawford already does the silly crap Newman is known for. Newman has been on the Footy Show 10 years too long. Start talking Footy James and Garry or you will lose the viewers completely. I don't know why 7 can't make a footy show anything has to be better than the rubbish they served up last night.

  5. Well we do have a sponser, sylvia hasnt lost the plot and teh sooner we get sylvia out there to show his capability the better.

I meant major sponsor we still need another one. So they suspended him for nothing did they people have been saying that he will show something for the last 5 years but he hasn't and his attitude seems to get worse and worse we are better off without him I would rather see Jetta or even Newton get a game ahead of him with the exception of Meeson I would rather see anyone get a game ahead of him.

  6. AWESOME. The footy gods are finally listening to me. What a great week. We finally have a sponsor (sort of). Spencer is now on our list and that clown Sylvia has lost the plot again fingers crossed that he won't be in the side RND 1 he definately doesn't deserve a spot the sooner he gets the ass the better.

  7. I did see him at training but can't say for sure whether he did the full session.

Thanks .Does anyone look like they have a long term injury so Spencer can come in or is our ruck division going to look like a joke come rnd 1?

  8. In the circumstances we don't want to be too kind or friendly to the Bulldogs or their sponsor. How about calling it the Dodgy Tortilla Cup?

It shouldn't be mentioned at all when we don't have a sponsor especially a turd of a product like that. It's appropriate that they are the Dogs sponsor cause that is exactly what it is dog food. Our sponsor will be by far a more awesome product than that rubbish.

  9. I think he will be a reasonable player for Carlton. He will be better than Sylvia. People forget that if it wasn't for the father\son rule he would definately have been a top 10 pick. I'm disappointed that he's gone but I think we have a pretty good replacement for him in Grimes. I'm not sure if I'm happy with the deal we got, Jurrah seems to be a fair way off from playing AFL footy and may never make it. If he begins to show something then I may be happy with the situation but he has to do something first.

  10. If Watts and Robbo were ready to go he wouldn't be getting a game in my best 22. He's apparently had a good pre season and has still shown very little he's still not fit enough to play in the midfield. As a forward he hasn't done any more than even Newton. Both were awful against the Hawks, Sylvia was our best against the Swans and Newton was our best against the Lions according to the papers. Against the Dogs they should both play in the square and whoever performs better plays RND1 and the other plays at Casey that's where I see Sylvia as a fringe when he should be a lot better.

  11. The only way for Spencer to get on the list sooner than later is by a player going onto the long term injury list which means the player in question has to be genuinely injured and would have to remain on the lti until at least round 9 i.e not even a game with the Scorps (or even school footy for that matter). Robbo wants to play in April, Jamar has a toe injury, Wheats a calf, Aussie has a hammy and McNamara and Maric are back in training. We don't have any options ATM.

Does anyone know when Jamar will be ready to play? If he's not ready I would like to see Miller in the ruck he's done it before and was reasonable. I want to see Martin play on Hale. Considering the year we had last year I can't believe that we will more likely debut no one and 2 in form rookies in Spencer and Valenti can't find a spot on our list.

  12. Great read.

How did Newton kick 3 goals in a cyclone, but can't get a possession in the dry?

Brisbane have the worst back half in the comp. This must be the first away win we've had in a long time, usually we'd have to pencil in a 10 goal loss when we go interstate.

  13. I can only report what i hear. As i said Bartlett said that he was gone. He was not very descriptive as he hasnt played many afl games yet and most dont realise his talant. According to some he is not required at melbourne...

Thats all i have heard. if anyone knows anything else please enlighten me

    He's named in the squad.

  14. Can the footy gods please break the Russian's football foot. We need Spencer in the side immediately he was awesome yesterday along with Grimes. Wouldn't mind seeing the pathetic Sylvia's OP come back so we can bring in a kid that will actually have a go in Valenti.

  15. I don't want to bag a player in the pre season but him laughing after the game was the last straw. Sylvia is a joke he can't kick, can't jump, for a bloke who is suppoesed to be a great overhead he rarely takes one, poor decision maker not overly quick and extremely lazy. Melbourne are to blame for this he has continually got a game when his form didn't warrant it now you have a player who always thinks he will play in the seniors no matter how bad he plays. It is now time for him to be dropped unless he is in the best for at least 2 of the next 3 practice matches. Sylvia is not a forward he misses far too many goals and he is not fit enough for the position that we need filled and what he was recruited for in the midfield. I would be amazed if he was to turn his career around cause ATM he is just another Fiora.

  16. Best and fairest ranking means absolutely nothing. If it is then you must think Warnock is our 4th best player, Bartram is our 8th best and Dunn is our 12th best.

Look at the stats for 2008 on the MFC page: http://melbournefc.com.au/Stats/tabid/7429/default.aspx

In just about every column you can rank the players on, Sylvia is top 10. A few of them he is first.

Of course stats on their own mean nothing, but when you have just about every stat imaginable there with Syvlia coming top 10 for the club in 90% of them, you can see he is a top 10 player for us. Borderline 22? Um, no.

I would say stats mean nothing also I would have thought that PJ, Warnock, Garland and Aussie definately had better years than Sylvia but have less stats. Jones would be a top 5 if we looked at the stats we all know that he isn't.

  17. "Former Demon defender Nathan Brown finished up at Melbourne in 2007 and spent last season at West Adelaide but he's back in the fold heading up the list of newcomers for 2009 at Casey. Brown will also have some sort of development role with the club on top of being there as a player."

There's a report in today's Sunday Age that says Doggy's playing with Old Scotch in the VAFA this year.

I'm a fan of doggy but I think that is a good thing we already have Silvagni, Wall and Faulks down back we don't need another backman we need some demons in that back half.

  18. Sylvia is not borderline 22. He is in our top 10 players. He was top 10 in the MFC in nearly every facet last season. Posters have and always have had an agenda against him, saying he is borderline 22 is absolutely ludicrous.

How is he in our top 10? Surely we are not that bad. Where was he in the B&F about 20th behind Jones who got bagged all year. Sylvia is an ordinary player. If he wasn't pick 3 he wouldn't be getting a game. If he doesn't improve significantly and get a top 10 finish in the B&F this year we should let him go we can't afford to have players like him continually under performing. I'm not going to worry about him not performing in an intra club match or any practice match but if he doesn't perform rnd 1 then I will really get into him in Magic\Bruce proportions.

  19. Thank god they didn't fill no 28 jumper big shoe's to fill there. What a joke making the kids earn a low number the way we played last year the experienced players should be made to earn a low number.
