I put this on another thread, but is just as appropriate here..... While I understand where everyone is coming from with the captaincy argument, do you think we could stop anointing the next kid that shows us what he is made of to the poisoned chalice. I don't want the same thing to happen to any of our Jacks if they get the gig while unready for it. And while I'm on that can we stop being so bloody fickle, last week it was Trengove, the week before that Moloney, earlier in the year Grimes was the heir apparent, and Scully has even had his name mentioned in the same capacity (not so often lately). Now I agree a new captain must be named for next season, as the role has killed Green, and I for one miss the excellent version of him we had last year. That being said it is wonderful to see so many leadership options in our next generation, but to me they may need more time to grow up a little, despite the dire straights we are currently in.

Now all that being said I can honestly say that Watts's ongoing skill improvement, never-say-die attitude, team work and effort is the most wonderful thing to come out of a season that has rocketed into hell. He continues to impress and will be exactly the player we hoped he would be (and I hope those that questioned this way too early on are humbled by what they can see now). He is a joy !!!

OK lets not pack his bags for him shall we...... But you're right when you say it's rotten luck, especially for a kid just starting to kind his way. I saw it on the TV and it just looked, well horrible doesn't really cover it. Yes get well soon James, we all are pulling for a strong recovery..... But what was the tacky bit Rhino?
-
He's got four kids under six, I'm not sure he would move for a part time position...... I don't believe he is still at the Swans in anything other than legandary capacity.

If you can get yourself to Alexandria (not too far out of the CBD) the NSW Demons always have the games on the big screens at the The Camelia Grove Hotel. The Camelia Grove Hotel If not then any bar will probably have it on, especially given it is on Channel 10.
-
Well sure, but then we must be able to find a place of peace and understanding !!! Kidding aside he is a great choice, if at all possible RR.......
-
Actually he is part of the press giving his opinion and whether you like it or not that is his job......
-
Well, the TV one usually gets her [censored] stirring pretty accurate..... Probably a little different here !!!
-
Amen to everything Redleg, well said......
-
Yes I think you're right e25..... But wouldn't a new coach mean a new appointment to Footy Operations as well. Especially given what has or hasn't (allegedly) happened already in that particular department. Oh, and I think Balme would be a good choice.
-
Mine too..... I attended a Swans dinner with some friends a few years back, and hear him speak was truly awesome. He could have got that whole room to jump collectively from the Harbour Bridge if he wanted to. Now I realise it was a sympathetic audience, but honestly it really was quite something to behold. That on top of his on-field attitude and the tough, never-say-die approach to the game was always amazing. He could be great and can leave Maroubra Beach behind and head south to the Dees any time he likes.
-
Maybe, but God forbid he actually have to work a bit harder in that case..... but that is up to him, no-one can force (especially the Dees at the moment apparently) this attitude onto him. He has to want to be a better player and thus be prepared to work harder to get it, like Thomas has done. Unfortunately for Sylvia that seems a little difficult, but he still wants to be paid very handsomely. I would rather keep him than lose him, but he doesn't deserve massive contract increases until he can prove himself consistently. And this throughout all his years with us, he has yet to do.
-
Yes, that was rather awesome.....
-
And been more than a little hypocritical about it too.......
-
Such horribe news (again)..... Our hearts & minds & souls & everything else we have goes to wishing Jim the best.
-
Good Lord, what a day...... Cheers for the info guys !!!
-
Amen e25, well said..... And you didn't even want to kill him or anything !!!
-
Oh hell, what happened there? I haven't been paying enough attention clearly !!!
-
Love to see him next week though.....

I'd easliy put Jack Grimes on that list, but his health keeps holding him back. As for Moloney I love his attitude and endeavour, but I'm just not convinced for the captaincy. I'd go younger.

They're all hurting, or course they are, and they should be. For us to think otherwise is simply ludicrous. They embarrassed themselves as well as the club and jumper out there today. We don't have any control thus our frustration is self righteous, but don't for a second assume that any of them were happy. We have no idea what was in their heads or hearts. Although after that performance not much heart, but being publically jovial isn't a crime even after that. I get we have to find a reason and Greens season and captaincy has been unfathomably bad, but to say he doesn't care is a pathetic bash. Would it have been better if he broke down and sobbed like a child, or hit the wall while on camera? I don't think he should be captain anymore but come on. Would we like to see more passion, attack and guts on the field? Of course that would be preferable, but they would be hurting same as us. The only difference here is that they can actually do something about it, we can't, they just have to want to.

"Melbourne lost its most consistent contested ball winner, Brent Moloney, to a virus at half-time after he'd been affected throughout the first half. And they were getting smashed out of the centre." 'We're all on notice'

It's a legit question Titan, and yes, in my opinion there can always be a catalyst to a sacking..... There's probably a few precursors but this could well be the silver bullet because questions were being asked long before this tragic farce.

Pressing? Yes. But distracting? Lets hope not.
