Thanks J. Your right but I just think unless he learns he's going to destroy another players career again. But yea it's not worth the angst. Cheers.

Too risky for me. We still are a chance for finals so we can't experiment here. If we are locked out of finals against the pies then sure give Jeffo a run. Yes Fritas been hot and cold but so has the whole team. Plus he's so much better at the G. A couple of purple patches from him change games.

Nup but the three weeks dished out for a dangerous tackle the other day seems pretty harsh now.

Elbows a bloke in the throat. Just a fine. Something stinks in the Afl nowadays. Blokes untouchable. I wonder who really pays the fine.
-
Yeah was going to list that as a third. Break of Gawn is pretty clever.

I'm giving a shout out to Fritta and Turner. A close second to Jack Viney's anger management. Do I have too much time on my hands?

Why are we continuously being beaten in clearances?
leave it to deever replied to DeeZee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well we won the clearances against Essendon. Oliver has been in and out of form. Tracca is injured. Viney five disposals down from last year. Max has been out. And we need a replacement for Sparrow. Rivers has stepped up at least. Hopefully Oliver will return to his best. -
Last year saw twelve wins get a finals birth. Since our percentage is so low thanks to Freo twice we will need 13 wins. We need to win three of the last five games against some tough opponents. I don't think Hawks will make it because of their percentage. The dogs have some tough games including us but have two easy ones in tigers and North and they have a strong percentage so are a solid chave of sneaking in. That means if we play finals I see the Giants and power having to drop out. The cats have some easy teams to play so are safe. We also get to play three contenders so the reality is our destiny is in our own hands. The real challenge to Swans are the Lions who have found form at the right time, Freo and Carlton. Although the latter are hard to gauge. Carlton have kicked some good scores this year but in three of their games decided by a goal or less they have won all of them. ( We one won of our three). I don't see Cwood or suns making it due to percentage. Next week is a must win. Two reasons, it increases our likelihood and pushes gws out . Although mathematically we are still a chance if we lose it will be highly unlikely. It's such a close season that that Carlton game umpiring really hurts just like our percentage being demolished by Freo twice.

But it's been players like Jvr, Mcvee and Windsor who are the stand out consistent good players. For me the issue is with our more veteran players. ..in Oliver, Lever, Petty, Sparrow, Fritta and to a lesser extent Anb. Agree about the Kolt. He wasn't playing too badly but I was impressed with Billings for once. The only two youngsters that are up and down are Turner and AMW. The latter has only played a couple of games.

I think Freo have been a bit of a sleeper this year and have finally started getting it altogether at the business end of the season. But as good as they were, we were equally as bad. I think they missed a lot of early opportunities and it could have been a 100 points demolition. I appreciate your positive attitude but I think you overlooking how inconsistent we are this year. How many games have we seen where you could cal it over from just watching the first ten mins? Yesterday was another one of those. I don't know why there is such a huge difference between our best and worst. So yea sure credit to Freo but absolutely none to us. And at this stage of the season and with a finals birth on the line you would like to see that we were a fighting side. It was hard for me to take positives from that game. In an apparently close season we were absolutely demolished and it was embarrassing how slow we were. I almost felt like counting the number of Dockers players there were on the field at times because their numbers to the contest were overwhelming. I guess despite the home advantage over there and Max out, I expected to see more passion and fight. Goodness help us if we sneak through into the final 8 and have to play them again.

Agree. Our best footy is good enough to beat most teams but our worst is embarrassing. It's a close season so we shouldn't be seeing these blow outs. We are all over the shop. Last week Kozzie and Oliver and Nibbler were best on ground but yesterday they seemed ineffectual. A few others I mentioned like Salem and Lever didn't show up. And yes the score line flattered us but last time they beat us we had Max and Tracc in so yesterday wasn't as bad but certainly close. I don't understand our inconsistency. I don't get why those players mentioned can do so well one week and so poorly the next. Maybe a little hard on Anb Is it our recovery process or are we over training at times? We seemed snail like at times yesterday. You could tell straight away like other games this year we were not in it at all. And it can't be dismissed because we are a young team. We are not really. In fact it's players like Windsor and Mcvee that have been consistent. It's our more senior players that are inconsistent. Again we need three more wins. I hope Lever digs deep and finds some of his old form. I wish we could replace Sparrow. I mentioned earlier that I appreciate his tackling efforts but I'm starting to think that it's only because he's second to the contest. It's very rare that he ever gets votes and when he has he's never consistent. I think this is his sixth season and he really hasn't shined. He just doesn't get enough of the ball to maintain a position in the midfield but I guess we are lacking in depth so he stays. The positives are Jvr, Mcvee, Windsor and a couple of other young players that keep building. A shame some of our leaders and senior players can't also do the same. A few of them seem to be going backwards. We will see what we are made of next week I guess. Lose that and I think it's lights out for season 24. So hopefully Salem, Lever, Kozzie, Oliver, Fritta and Anb can be their best and steer us into a finals birth.

Fair point. I think it was the manner in which we were beaten. Freo missed quite a few easy shots and also took their foot off the accelerator in the last. It could have easily been another 100 points thumping. But I guess it wasn't all that bad given Tracca and Max were out. But the numbers they got to the ball and speed of entry into their forward line made us look so poor. Also players like Lever and Oliver, Kozzie and Salem didn't really seem too invested. I didn't expect to win. I mean we were thumped over there by the cellar dwelling eagles. And I think Freo are an underrated team. The clearances were embarrassing and I don't think can just be attributed to Max out. We have some tough games ahead so today have our percentage smashed again is not helpful. Mathematically we are still well and truly on the hunt but do we have the passion like emerging teams like the dogs and hawks? Lose next week and it's a fair bet that it's all over. 12 wins and a high percentage will see a finals birth. As Such we need three more wins. It's strange that we have had games we you can tell on the first ten minutes that we are not switched on. I don't know why we can be so lethargic at times. In the Carlton game we were shell shocked in the first .( The umps didn't help either) Those four points we just missed out on on that game might just be the difference. Five tough games ahead. I hope Max is back next week because that will definitely be the deciding factor.

It really makes you wonder why we have him and some others on our list. Are he and Schacke contracted for long? Did the club make a mistake in drafting these two? Seems like it. On a more positive note Billings wasn't too bad v the Dockers coming in as the sub. He's probably the better of the three on him, Hunter and McAdam. But despite our clubs excellent recruiting I on general, I feel like we have picked up quite a few that are not up to speed.
-
He's very good at marking at an angle....I mean he seems better when he comes from the side to mark. He isn't really a great pack mark in that he doesn't seem to have the weight to stand put in the middle of others and hold the ball. He is moved out of the way quite often. But the upside to his " lightness" is he has good agility and athleticism. I somewhat ambivalent about resigning him as he is not the forward I hoped he would be despite some occasional brilliance in the position. He is a natural defender and a good one. He just needs his confidence back . I guess with our aging backline we will see him play in his better position in the future. I guess he's been given a tough run this year. He didn't have a solid pre season. Due to the club's poor drafting he's been forced to play as fwd and now as a ruckman.

My 3 word player analysis V Fremantle
leave it to deever replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes Sparrow was playing. He is the perennial 15 disposals every game. I used to think his tackle rate was excellent but know I understand he won't go and get the ball -
Shame we can't pay on effort in games like this .
-
Nice load of tripe served up yet again against a WA team. Can't wait to drop Sparrow. Gives so little every week. Quite a few no shows from some senior players. Finals look wobbly again. Weak effort today.
-
Great kick Milk.
-
Pickett not looking too interested today.
-
Don't kick it to Sparrow.
-
Good onya Lever. Stop mouthing off.
-
Time to time out folks. Players have. Shame we didn't turn up again. Finals birth iffy.
-
Losing heart in this club. They just don't seem to have enough ticker.
-
Goodness that was a nothing kick by Viney.
-
And Oliver....six disposals.
