Should Oliver come back via Casey? Been a while. -
PREGAME: Rd 21 vs North Melbourne

I'd bring in Grundy maybe even as a sub if need be. Let Max play 75% of game time. -
Not to mention travelling eight times and the usual trip to Kardinia that most vic clubs avoid all the time. We must be doing something right.

Have we officially found our full forward?

I don't know anything about Swan but I must ask if prior to his debut, if he was a proven Afl player like Petty has been albeit in a different role. I could understand if Petty had come from the Magoo's to make his mark but he's been a great player for us for the last three years. Just saying . I know it's early but I can't imagine someone like Petty falling in a heap. He probably won't go on and kick big scores but it was his ten marks that impressed me. Something that we desperately needed up forward. He also proved a great foil so as to allow the others to kick plenty of goals -
CASEY: Rd 19 vs Williamstown

I say that's the case. He's a good at rucking but modern footy requires a good ruckman to be able to drop back and defend and to move forward and be an option. You don't have to perfect in these roles but you do need to mark. The same reason he doesn't play as an effective forward is the same reason he doesn't perform in other roles. Grundy has soft hands and can't adequately fullfil these roles.on top of all this, it seems by not playing as much, Max has dropped in form. The whole experience hasn't panned out the way we hoped but the upside is that the club has recognized this and made the hard calls necessary. We were fortunate enough to have Grundy play when Max was injured and as a second ruck he's a pretty good one for sure. But on his money and reputation , I can't imagine that's a role he's going to relish and he will move on. -
The umps gave the tigers a pretty generous run in the first half. We were tackling much more than them and had several tackles go unrewarded. I think their supporters got use to it. Also possibly their players. So when the whistle finally came out and they got pinged several times they were very upset . The Kozzie one must have sent them over the edge. So sad.😀

There must be quite a few coaches that would be worried by what they saw yesterday. Firstly the incredible form of Max who has been well below his best since Grundy started playing. But yesterday Max simply went to a new level. He monstered it with his contested possessions and I think he was the best in the comp for this round. Given that he bairly touched the ball in the first half , this is a telling statistic. Secondly, Melksham played another very good game and I imagine his size would be hard to match up. Thirdly, Oliver and Fritta are still in the wings. Finally there was Petty who played his first full game as a forward and kicked SIX goals. Obviously we need Oliver back ASAP but it seems with Max getting his hands on the ball like that, our midfield is even stronger. And now we also have a forward line that is tall and mobile and accurate and strong in marking. Our backline did look a little troubled at times ..May looked a little fumbly and Salo was slow to get going but the ball was moving at a very fast pace. Tommo didn't play at his best either but I was glad that Lever seemed a lot better . Besides we have the option of bringing Hibbo back who has from what understand been playing well at Casey. With him , Oliver and Fritta this is a team with many options and playing well. The stars are aligning at just the right time. Hopefully the cats beat power at kardinia this weekend and we climb into second spot with a good percentage win over North. From there on, destiny is in our hands and we can secure a home final against power or lions.

I think I'm on record here for questioning why Goody trialled Petty up fwd to only abandon the experiment just when he was injured. He was finally showing some really good signs in that game after some fairly lacklustre games. I thought that was sadly the end of it. Petty is a very talented player that Goody clearly wanted to keep as a defender. Yet after running out of options and the wonderful persistence of Tommo, Goody to his credit tried another time. If his five goals , 10 clean marks didn't impress you than his sixth goal around his body must have. You can't play like that and not be able to repeat it. We have found our forward for sure. Combine this with Melksham rediscovering his old skill and passion ( loved how he confidently grabbed the free from the boundary line) Jvr getting better each game, Kozzie and Chandler returning to form and Fritta waiting in the wings and we have a fwd line that can kick 100 points plus. Also with Oliver coming back in, Trac may be able to contribute more in terms of goal scoring. Yesterday was a forward line that kicked 85% of our goals. We simply don't need Grundy there. Or Max. Which is good because Max was the reason in the last quarter we did so well. After a horrid first half, the bloke was a different person. His contested possessions made us look like we had another midfielder out there. He drove the ball forward from punching, kicking, handballing and pushing. His sheer will and strength saw him contribute to many of the last ten goals scored by us. I know this thread is about or forward line but that was one of the best performances I've ever seen from a ruckman. This is not a dig on Grundy in anyway but when you have someone who can play like Max did, then you want him playing as much as possible. And back on track, Jvrs leap is getting higher every game. He's also very athletic for his size and I think makes the perfect chf. Finally, the accuracy of all our forwards is excellent. -
My 3 word player analysis V Richmond

A little more excitement for Petty would not be wrong. Tx again Jb. -
Or hopefully get back in form and keep everyone on their toes.
-
His leap defies physics too.

Gee, justed watched some of Petty's goals. Basically he did an old fashioned Riewoldt. I know it's only one big game as a forward but gee it's enough to get very excited about not to forget about Jvr and Melksham. I think that was our second highest score for the year. But to have so many kicked by our feds when they have struggled is like an eight point win. Maybe we have finally found the right combo and what a time to discover it. Can't see poor Grundy getting back in other than relief for Max . And the accuracy was the best.

I thought the umps were really poor in the first three quarters but finally decided to reward some tackles in the last and yea, didn't they hate it.
-
Max just switching into overdrive for me.
-
Max's clearance work was sublime.
-
Is Fritta the last to kick six for us two years ago? Certainly has happened this year.

Change it at your peril. -
Credit to goody. Even though Tommo had a tough one, he was rewarded this weekend. And thanks for trialling Petty once more.
-
Who was the Turkey yesterday that asked if Petty had proven himself fwd? Does today help.
-
Got a forward line. Petty six. Jvr and Milk four. Kozzie two. Chandler one Over 100 points.
-
Good post Uncle. Credit to Richmond who swang all day. Props to Petty. Maybe the fwd line is fixed. But Max was on another level after half time. Vintage Gawn. Can't be stopped. That win is a strong message to the other clubs.
-
Petty and the Tiger breakers.
-
Comprehensive win.
-
Tough bw him and Petty but Max has it. He started out slow too but barnstormed home.
-
Woo hoo Premiership style win. Great stuff. Never say die.
