  1. I'd be hard-pressed to give Bruce stick for leaving the club 12 months after we knifed Junior out the door.
  2. I don't understand what Mckenzie was doing... Certainly not used to that behaviour from players in the Red and Blue. I suppose the sad nature of sport is that, by the time a player retires, he's well passed his best. It shouldn't be forgotten how much he put in for the Dees - a lot of players on our list would do well to mimic his gut-running ability. As Rhino hinted at, hopefully his mate Brad gets the respect he deserves for delivering 6 solid seasons in our worst period - not ridicule for his 1 poor one. Hopefully Brucey can be welcomed back into the MFC family with open arms. Fought for every ounce of his talent to make an impact on the biggest stage. P.s. does he remind anyone of Melbourne's current number 10?
  3. Can you offer a claim, based in some element of fact, to discredit what I've said then - other than to sprout your obvious dislike of the CEO?
  4. You sound like Mel Gibson in that movie... I offer my opinion - you say that it is a very subjective thing to say and that you've seen no evidence. I reply with a quote from the man who (whilst highly despisable) would know a great deal more than you. Apparently, that's not enough. So I'll continue. Hunt's signing on this season with Gold Coast was seen as valuable as "Hunt has earned the AFL millions of dollars worth of valuable publicity in the northern battleground states." He signed a big money contract, thanks almost entirely to the AFL's decision to contribute to his payment under a "promotional marketing and advertising role." He'll earn over $1m this season with "the AFL again topping up his deal, recontracting him as an ambassador to promote the game." Surely you don't believe that the AFL would spend $800,000 on marketing that they do not believe is having an effect. Indeed, Demetriou was quoted as saying Hunt had repaid the investment "in spades...in fact, [he's] in credit." The AFL has paid him an inordinate amount of money to promote the game in the area. Various sources have stated that this has been beneficial to the AFL, possibly more beneficial than they had anticipated. This is supported by his re-signing, a sign that he is bringing in a hell of a lot of publicity. Now, I'm not so sure if he'd paid his contract before debut (that may've been dodgy memory) but I think it's clear that he has fulfilled his role - and the AFL believe he will continue to do so. The events of last night will only further underline his importance to the growth of the new team. The head of the AFL has even said that whilst it's a significant, they've been every cent they've spent is "worth it." If you still choose to believe it's not, that's entirely up to you.
  5. Ok... This was from the Head of the AFL during the pre-season, this before Hunt has put in a decent season before his winning goal.
  6. We play North the week after Darwin - a certain loss. I think I heard somewhere that the press, media buildup, sponsorship awareness etc. raised by the signing of Karmichael had already covered the cost of his contract before he'd even debuted. In terms of AFL exposure in the Rugby regions which, let's be honest, is the only reason he's paid that much - I'd say he's proven worth it for the AFL definitely. Certainly not worth that money on playing ability, but that's really beside the point.
  7. Didn't hear the commentary so I can't really speak for him - but I think I've heard Malthouse before say that he would prefer 6 on the interchange (or around that number) which would vastly limit the impact of such injuries. Not saying whether I agree or disagree, but I believe this may be what he meant.
  8. Brett Lee has called it a day. Congratulations on a wonderful, often underrated, career.
  9. North have had 1 soft tissue injury all year?!
  10. Has copped a lot of unfair criticism - fantastic set shot to win the game after the siren. Richmond... Shows the real danger of selling home games.
  11. I suppose it's Grimes' fault that Joel Macdonald can't take a chest mark.
  12. If we win one and he's on the list, then yes.
  13. I've been a bit unlucky there - Schultz goes the week I trade for him now Shuey. Oh well - its how it goes.
  14. Cameron gets off and is still eligible for the Rising Star Award.
  15. How we beat this mob by 89 points a little over a year ago I'll never know - but I'd love a repeat!

You often rabbit (not sure if that's the right word/spelling for this context, but regardless) on about posters setting up a blog and turning the comments off. I'd love to read your blog.

    CYCLING

Another big crash before the finish - this time involving Cavendish. Griepel claims the win. Goss fourth.
  18. Two keys to Saturday IMO. 1. 4 Quarters of consistent pressure. Richmond haven't been fantastic with the contested ball and we have been steadily improving - hopefully with Jones and Jamar back we can get back to the sort of form we showed for a month (minus two poor quarters). Last time we played we matched the Tiges for most of the game, save for a 10 minute period where they outscored us by 51 points (we lost by 59). We need to ensure we are switched on. 2. Using the footy well entering 50. We cannot afford to bomb it long and hope and we certainly need to ensure we make Richmond players accountable. Shaun Grigg (!) was left to roam on his own for most of the round 3 clash - gathering 37 (!) disposals. If guys like Magner and Moloney are going to play through the forward line, it is imperative that they fight like anything to keep the ball inside 50 once it hits the ground and ensure Richmond's runners are shut down. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring Jamar in to play in the Mitch Clark role.
  19. Oh no! Kumar misses another double ton- out for 192 for the second time. Left in the 190s for the second time in 3 innings. He moves to number two for the most amount of times above 190 (11) - 1 behind the Don (12).
  20. They've clearly used sleeping pills as an excuse to focus the discussion on something that was just starting to sprout its head in the media.
  21. I've no doubt the draw was one of the first things they looked at before handing out the suspension.
  22. Interesting - before she had said he'd miss the Dees game but the rest is unsure. Has she picked up news or is there inside word? Never sure how these things get out. Big news if he's made the same mistake as Connors - Connors gets the sack and Martin gets two weeks (obviously Connors has the history, but you'd surely want to lay down the law to young Martin).
