  1. Chopper came on and wanted to use it, i thought it was fair enough if he got to use it, but now i can't get my new AVATOIR(!!!!!) to work. Keep meaning to message a mod. Yeah i see what you mean HT, but i just can't deal with them. Healy especially, just so biased. It's the only thing i don't like about the coverage, which even with it is easily the best in the world
  2. 72-28 in favour of the MFC moniker. Bring it back MFC!
  3. Two year injury Roguey?
  4. Sydney has a population that is 400,000 people greater than Melbourne, I'm pretty sure they can handle the teams. Sydney FC don't count as they play in Summer, we have Victory but I won't bother with them because of that reason Sydney may have 9 times playing NRL, but we have 10 playing AFL. In 2004 AFL averaged 19000 more to a game than NRL. In 2005 it was around 19,000 again. 2006 saw an AFL average of 35,250 against NRL's 15,600. 2007 Saw an average MCG attendance of over 45,000 for a competition average of 21,000 more per game than NRL (which set a 15-team competition record with an average of 15,751. The 2008 NRL average, which you think has been pretty good this year, has averaged 15,655 per game, down over 21,000 per game than AFL. As you mention the Waratahs, their 2006 average of 27,000 per game would rank them second last in AFL attendances, not to mention their 2007 average of 21,000. NRL finals attendance are lower than AFL regular season matches. In fact, another interesting stat i found is that more Melbournians watched the NRL grand final than Sydneyites watched the AFL Grand Final. So it's fair to say I can't count rival teams in Sydney as a factor. They have one extra team than Melbourne does, and even that would be the lowest drawing team in the AFL. Sydney's record is pretty impressive in the AFL, but after 6 years in finals including one lost grand final and a Premiership, that's not exactly surprising. And even then they sit 12th on the ladder for attendances, even though they start favourites most home games. State of Origin. Easily NRL's biggest event. Easily NSW's biggest sporting event on the calendar. The game no rugby league fan can miss, where all of NSW can become as one and fight against the Northerners. Drew 67,700 this year. To put that in perspective, that would make it the 10th biggest attendance this year in AFL, let alone Finals. Which will see 7 games have greater attendance (despite both sides obviously having less fans than an entire State) than the State of Origin. Placing State of Origin in 17th place on the AFL list. The Third State of Origin Match, the Decider, would not have placed in the top 5 AFL matches this year, again not including finals. So I think it can be drawn that not only should there not be a Second AFL team in Sydney, there shouldn't really be any more teams at all if you're talking attendances. And I'm not buying the "it was a cold weekend" line
  5. DAMNIT! Haha i got to the ground as the siren sounded, then couldn't get a beer. Absolutely, that makes a lot of sense.
  6. The Sydney crowd was still bigger than each of the three NRL match crowds put together. So to claim 19,000 was poor because of battling NRL, i think you needn't worry. Has to make you think about Sydney people's desire to see live sport
  7. Easily 6000 there i'd say Rogue
  8. I hate Australian commentators. We're currently 3-92 after 28.1 overs, and they talk of Bangladesh being "pleased" with a "better performance." They just give teams no credit. When we were about 1-71 after 20 overs, probably one of our lowest totals at 1 out at that point for a long point, they just kept whinging that Clarke and Watson were out of form and working out of it. If it was another team they would rave about the bowling. I know they're trying to appeal to the average Aussie, but surely they need a bit of equality
  9. Haha sorry I'm on crack. Thought you were saying the Zebras will be hurt in finals because of no Dees players playing and it's a sign their run is over. Play on
  10. And part of the reason the Hawks smacked the Dogs last night. They had guys who can use the footy and run hard, but also with their height, they not only provide marking targets, they are also able to be more effective defensive players.
  11. Bub, i don't think anyone claims Sandy's success has been based off the result of their ressies. So I don't think, in terms of the dynasty, that many link no Dees players playing ressies with Sandy's future success.
  12. CS, may I say first you're an absolute star on this matter. Thank you very much for your insight and the information you have provided throughout! The train station is one thing i've wondered about since i ran about 3 km to the ground from the train station on this years 411 degree day when we played north. Has there been any word on whether or not the station will be built, and I suppose more to the point, when it will be built. I'd have thought it'd be hand in hand with development of the ground
  13. I have a vague memory of some weeks having 3 teams having a bye, sometimes 5. I assume this would come into play somewhere. The AFL won't want just 17 rounds, their main reason for establishing another team is to build television revenue. Because, you know, Gold Coasters all love their footy. But generally they're going for a, more games, more money approach. I think there'll be 2 byes per team, but can't really be bothered figuring out how it would work
  14. It's why I worry over a "precision" type game plan. Not to mention the fact the Dogs purposely took the foot off the peddle a few weeks ago, their slick ball moving strategy is very one paced. And it was shown last night that as soon as they played a team ready to run hard and go 1 on 1, that it's a technique that is very difficult to break lines, and very hard to maintain when under pressure. How many times did Dogs' players handball to someone under the pump? Looking very much like a two horse Finals race
  15. That's the second email we've seen reading as such, which seems to very from what MC was telling us. Is the club not on the same page regarding this?
  16. My question relates more as to where people feel the line should be drawn. There are a lot of people saying "Carroll should go" etc. but I couldn't imagine them saying it if Mclean got into a barfight again in the offseason. FWIW I agree about Carroll, and I'm happy for him to go. But it is very hard to put a social baromoter on a footy club.
  17. I realise it probably wasn't most peoples preferred option (and at the time we didn't know the club was going to try and fight to get a red base), but the Demon jumper certainly won. Speaking of Ronny, he was absolute Gold! Should be used more often
  18. At the aftermatch the other night (Aside from the Sub-Arctic temperature) the Demon jumper won quite convincingly in the vote. I hope it's the club skewing it so we can get an all red jumper
  19. 62 versus 27. It seems Demonlanders want the MFC moniker back at the club
  20. I'm all for moving Carroll on if our club could afford it, but I would also like to know where some supporters draw the line. Why is Carroll necessarily gone, yet Mclean and Sylvia seem to earn "another chance" each time? Because they're young, or because they're better players?
  21. He has very good run, but the way he used the footy in the first 12 rounds or so was horrid. I think he can be taught to lower his eyes, look for different types of options (hopefully through having options upfield as well) and this started to show towards the end of the year as he used more of a chip kick rather than a "i'm sprinting 65 metres to kick the ball to an opposition" It will just be interesting to see how quickly this transition can take place. He seemed to change his game to be more defensive reasonably quickly, hopefully he can learn how to use the ball and when to use his run. Shining light though IMO

  23. I just hope we don't bend over and accept the white in our jumper, and as a club turn to the supporters and claim it was some "link to our traditional heritage" when it is clearly just the whim of the AFL. We are Red and Blue, that's the way it should stay. Is MC the only person we can contact? And the club does seem very selective as to who receives replies, some are like lightening, others never come (i emailed a two page letter with my ideas two months ago and never got a reply)
