I'm beginning to hate this attitude. Big Jim isn't going anywhere and he would rather see the club succeed in the long run than have meaningless wins against rubbish opponents that jeopardise the club acquiring 2 of the best kids in the country.

We win 5, WC win 4 or less = W.C. get pick one and another pick depending on ladder position We win 4 or less = We get pick one.

If we win a flag in 5 years, and a large part of that is because we recieved two picks in the top 5, I couldn't give a stuff how we got them or what our reputation is.

And a very good way to build a strong club is to have the strongest playing list possible.

W_Y_L, I see where you're coming from, but I can also see the youngsters coping a bashing on Saturday and getting done on a new ground to many of them. By this stage it will be a long time since the original emotion of the terrible situation. I'm also sure Jim Stynes wants what is best for the club - he's not going anywhere and he'll want the club to win a Premiership.

If you can't see that getting two top 5 picks heightens our chances of selecting a quality player then there is no point arguing. You're forgetting that we will still have picks later in the draft to select other players who may turn out to be gems.

If, after 3 miserable years, we receive pick 5-6 I will be ropable. Only Melbourne could win 4 out of 35 (9 out of 57) to then win 4-6 of the last 9 of the season. God we need quality players, as many as possible. Now is the time to be greedy

Thank God for Supercoach. Someone mentioned eariler that to be eligible you had to be under 21 and less than 10 games before the start of the season, but Sportingbet have odds for him to win it - so I assume he is eligible.

This talk is rubbish. If we win 5, do you really think we'll finish 15th? We won't be bottom 2-3 with 5 wins, so we won't get him regardless. If we win 3 or 4, we will get him (and one other top 5 pick). Simple.

Don't think I've seen a first year Melbourne player impose himself on a game so vivaciously before. That said, I still feel that Broughton deserves it for what has been an outstanding season - though Jurrah might get it for being a part of a winning team.

I agree Mydee, Whilst I myself do not agree with this thinking, I appreciated that the OP expressed a desire to save this thread for supporters who wanted to enjoy the win. As such I did not post and felt that the thread didn't need to be diluted with the "tank argument" which is taking place in about 20 other threads. Arguments about tanking can take place in other threads, in a thread such as this it seems to simply be an attempt to convince others to change peoples' minds by barrage.

Not that I necessarily agree players would play better for this reason, but one extra pick in the top 5 will most likely mean we will drop one extra player than we otherwise would have.
