  1. Good is generous. I am stubborn. But Oscar is definitely not a good player yet. He is a developing one who is still really inconsistent during games.
  2. Salem at anywhere close to his best easily gets a starting 18 spot. Gussy will hopefully move up to a wing and rotate forward.
  3. I'd play Trac at Full Forward for the first half against Brisbane and see how he goes. One-on-one he is an extremely dangerous player and it'd allow him to at least get a break from the kilometers a mid/half forward clock up. Isolate him in the square, play Garlett at high half forward to get him into the game early. Weideman or Watts can play a lead-up CHF depending on who is played. I think it's important to do some shuffling. Harmes won't have another day-out like that as impressive as his first quarter was. Trac is a much more dangerous deep option. Sometimes positional change is needed to give players a spark in form. Harmes and Brayshaw were proof of that on the weekend.
  4. Better than quite good. It's an attribute he possesses that sets him apart from most other mids.
  5. Was Harmes, I wanted him to give it too. But he was entitled to take the shot given he was on less of an angle and under little pressure. What a return that was by Gussy though. A huge performance given how much his confidence would have suffered over the past couple of months. He is quality and I can't wait until he gets a clean run and another full year under his belt. Petracca, Oliver and Gus all having big off-seasons and injury free years next year will be enormous for us.
  6. Again, there's no pot-shotting going on here. But clearly Watts is going to have to do better than "fine" at VFL level to get a call up for the ones. Given he wasn't named in an extended 'best' list, I can't see how he's going to play next week. (Depending on injuries and performance against St Kilda today).
  7. GWS had Cameron (42 goals), Patton (36) and Greene (33) out against us last week. Their three leading goal kickers. Yet they smashed us and kicked nearly 100 points due mainly to their pressure around the ball, tackling and more efficient ball use. We also contributed to their win by butchering the ball, making stupid decisions and not tackling as ferociously. But the point is, the winning score comes mainly from the way your midfield plays. We will kick a winning score if we fire through the middle. Regardless of who is forward.
  8. Just did then apologies. If not for the Watts omission, who else is at the selection table?
  9. I will if he gets dropped for Plapp.
  10. Hard to defend him this week. Facts are facts are facts.
  11. Jeez he must be pretty injured if he's kitting up for Casey on the weekend. Yeh. That's how footy works funnily enough. It seems the poster I was quoting believed that we'd have serious trouble kicking a winning score without Jack in the forwardline.
  12. I think you'll find that most supporters of the club wouldn't delist the guy. That would be silly. And the vitriol and cruel commentary that you allude to is spoken by a small group whom you can ignore. But the general criticism of his performances in certain games are absolutely warranted and the proof is again in the pudding after another omission. So you have nowhere to hide. And neither does he. I'm not interested in Watt's past. I'm interested in the now. And right now, he's been incredibly disappointing in his performance. You, along with others seem unable to accept that. Watts has himself to blame right now.
  13. What, because Watts has been omitted? Goals come from multiple avenues. If we get on top in the midfield and are efficient with our entries we'll have no problem scoring. Simple.
  14. Can see that happening. I like it. Maybe Carlton can be lured by more ex-GWS players in any of Tyson, Bugg or Frost + a pick.
  15. Watts possesses all the answers to his critics. As a player of 150 AFL games experience, he can control all external noise by simply performing to an acceptable level. It's a really simple thing. Why is it so hard for posters like Jumbo to understand that? Just think about it for a minute.
  16. Clearly we need Lever. Frost and O-Mac in tandem are as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
  17. Having one strong attribute at AFL level is simply not enough. Frost's speed is amazing. But he is wildly inconsistent in almost every other facet of the game. Marking, kicking, decision making etc. My thoughts on him as a player have been confirmed. He is an athlete playing football and once we have the depth and talent in our key position stocks, he can develop the fundamentals of the game at VFL level. You'd think with three rounds to go and on the eve of a finals birth we wouldn't have to drop a key defender because of form.
  18. VFL football is generally a much more contested and scrappy game due to smaller grounds, less skilled players and greater exposure to weather. I agree that the intensity level at AFL is clearly a step up which translates to harder hits sometimes. But personally, I'd be much less worried about Gus playing an outside role on the wide expanses of the MCG vs a smaller suburban ground at VFL level where there are turnovers galore. I think we've missed his versatility and I'd actually bring him in for Tyson this week and give Garlett a bit of on ball time, (if the weather is good). We need to inject some pace in and skill in the middle of the ground. Gussy has hit some form and I think this week would be a good one to bring him in. It'd give the group a lift as well as supporters.
  19. ^ Garland has definitely flown under the radar...
  20. As unfortunate as it is for Garland, I think keeping him on the list for his last year is pointless from a list management perspective. Clearly he is not our future, and wasn't even best 22 before he did his knee. Put a year of important development into a youngster or give Garland a year to get his knee right so that he can at best be a depth defender before he is released at the end of 2019? It's a no-brainer really. As for needs and wants, I see our list having a few problem areas, a big one being the following: One thing I've noticed with us however is that if an opposition team brings and maintains the same level of pressure and aggression at the contest as we apply, we seem to really struggle. It seems we only have one way of playing. Bully and outmuscle an opposition team at the contest and hope that we get on top in that area. We've basically built a midfield + depth for that kind of football and I'm fully aware that it's that kind of footy that stands up in finals. However as I mentioned, if the same heat is applied to our group, we collapse into a frenzy of over-handballing and ball-butchering play. And I'm of the view that we need to tinker with our list profile because of this and releasing some players who many on here would rate no doubt. There is a distinct lack of composure and skill-execution across our list and especially our midfield-line group which needs some obvious correcting. You need to give up something to get something in this comp and we're in desperate need for some class, composure and power running through the middle of the ground. Expendable players in my eyes are ANB, Tyson, Harmes, JKH and to a lesser extent Stretch. Tyson to me is one player who we simply don't need given he's not part of our top tier midfield group and his versatility as a player is almost non-existent. He was a number 3 pick as an inside mid. His game is contested-ball winning but he now plays more of an outside role given the talent we have ahead of him in that area. Tyson is one-sided, slow and his skills are questionable. He is absolutely expendable. ANB whilst playing the role of high pressure forward is a natural contested ball winning mid and is extremely limited in what he can provide our forward-line. Yeh pressure is important, but there are so many players who can provide that and then some. This isn't a pot-shorting post to either player, so I'm not going to bite if the same nuffies start questioning why I'd move on either one of Tyson or ANB because of their overt love for everyone wearing our colours. This is about what is best for the club and where we need to see improvement. Two spots whereby we could bring in a couple of players who are quick, composed and versatile and would go a long way to making more dangerous in our ability to move the ball with more fluency. A few of potential targets that wouldn't cost the farm would be: - Brendon Ah Chee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw2UVwSfG1M&t=56s - Steven Motlop (for the right price) - Devon Smith
