GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Sydney
He’s been very useful today. Whether he gets two goals a game or not, he needs to play deep forward every week from now on. Provides: - a foil for weid and tmac - provides a focal point for the long bomb - brings the ball to ground for small forwards - gives Gawn a rest from ruck duties when needed - is a big [censored] and scares the crap out of the opposition (and my 3yo daughter by the way who thought he was literally a monster)

If we kick it to the advantage of our forwards when going inside 50 it will fix that up straight away

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Sydney
Sigh... our kicking to advantage inside 50 really needs to be a focal point

Weid has a brilliant kicking action... just wish he’d get the chance to practice it in a game a little more often

Melksham really should have taken the shot there

Longmire running with a limp there, will he coach out the game?

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Sydney
When we learn to kick it to the advantage of our man one on one inside forward 50 it will be really helpful to winning

Amazing what happens when you have some quick forwards running around

Please don’t take the lords name in vein. Plus it’s a figure of speech not what I want to actually happen. Plus if you follow my posts over a period of time you would see that I’m not one for potshotting our players indiscriminately for one bad mistake, only when they have been terrible for a significant period of time. Oscar has been horrendous this year and this game he’s been worse again.

Bartel on Brisbane's defence (and Melbourne's)
Hear what you are saying and agree that we will be at our best when all of our backmen are fit, healthy and playing together. In the meantime though we need an alternative plan, if the players like frost are not smart enough to follow the plan then good coaching is altering the way you teach the plan or alter the plan itself (simplify) to get the best out of the individuals at your disposal. I’ve been coaching at very high levels in swimming for 20 years and I can tell you very few athletes are capable of swimming as I would ideally want them too, so I adjust the plan and the delivery to suit their capacity to learn and improve. That’s how you get the best out of each individual.

Bartel on Brisbane's defence (and Melbourne's)
One wonders who is teaching these people because it really isn’t that difficult to instill a basic plan. My gut feel is that they are completely confused by the system they are being asked to conform too.

What is wrong with Michael Hibberd?
Don’t disagree with you on any of the points above. Particularly the point of that they are paid professionals. It’s always frustrated me that a person getting paid 300k+ could ever be so bad at a closed skill such as set shot kicking for goal. I mean if you said to me I’ll give you half a mil if you can kick 80% of your set shots through two sticks I can guarantee you I would learn how to do it real quick, yet so many AFL footballers struggle with it.

What is wrong with Michael Hibberd?
Well it is and it isn’t. Depending on what type of fitness work you are doing it can seriously inhibit your game day performance

This all becomes a moot point if what a poster said on one of the other forums that McCartney has been working the defense boys harder than would normally be expected this time of year which fits (in my eyes) with just how extra (they’re are slow as it is) slow the boys all look down back atm Really hoping this changes soon because we are currently looking down a very dark hole

ROUND 4 2006 - Melbourne v Sydney at the SCG
I reckon Frost is the better option on Frankenstein. So to correct your sentence above “Sydney didn’t have Lance [censored] Franklin that night kicking 12 on Frost” ? PS they did have a pretty handy guy called Barry Hall that night who kicked 3

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
I had an interesting conversation with a coach of a team I won’t name. It’s his view that it’s the coach of the specific area who is responsible for the vast majority of the coaching and strategy in that area and the head coach is largely a manager of other coaches. This fits with what we have seen at both collingwood and Richmond in sacking their assistant coaches and retaining their head coach which in both cases was a very successful move. Others have posted on here that there may be rumblings on specific assistant coaches at the moment and I wonder if we will see a shake up in that area at years end.
