  1. By comparison, our AFL players can call themselves "intellectuals."
  2. Agree but the Wiz had his "off days". When he was on he was without peer, but when he was off, he was really off, particularly when he was heavily marked or targeted by a tagger. I always thought that Garry Lyon was a critical factor. When on the field at FF, Gary kept the Wiz focused and settled but also acted as a protector against aggressive defenders. Lyon was constantly in the face of any opponent that targeted the Wiz. Off the field, he was a lovely bloke who was happy to sign autographs for the kids. Like Jurrah, he was the reason to go to the game. An excitement machine.
  3. bj, you and red should get together for a fun night out.
  4. Red, you are not the material body but an eternal spirit soul. I suppose we need to look after the material body at least in the short term, as long you are still the happy Red and have not become the grumpy Red, longing for a bottle of Red and salivating for real food.
  5. Hineni, here I am my Lord. Acceptance of the inevitable has replaced wisdom Uncle.
  6. The moral is don't consume weight loss shakes or any other commercially produced weight loss products.
  7. Great attack on the ball, tough as nails, great tackler but decision making and disposal skills ?
  8. Off the field Toby is a liability but on the field he is a dynamo. Slot into any side and be a huge asset because of his contested possessions and footy smarts. And he is as tough as nails.
  9. If you had ever spent an afternoon with Gertrude you would not say such things Dieter and you would then understand that there is more to a person that what meets the eye.
  10. Those that call the kettle black.
  11. You have no respect or decency. Given your own interests I would have expected bitter.
  12. Let me think about it Daisy. I would not want to besmirch Gertrude's reputation. She was a God and me a mire mortal and admirer.
  13. I prefer wine, women and song over bananas daisy. And Gertrude Stein. Now i am thinking bananas!
  14. No I agree with Mr Leg OD, time to reclaim this thread.
  15. Yes true Uncle, I am drawn back to it, but that does not give the thread any credibility. I have long known of my own failings but perhaps you need a new angle, I suspect that only a few still visit this thread, I have an affection for you but its time to move on.
  16. My God, if there is one, this thread just keeps getting worse.
  17. Nicely argued.
  18. Not sure about Robbie. He played inside and outside and ground coverage was huge. Moved in an arc from defence to attack. He literally bobbed up everywhere although it is true he was not always crumbling at the feet of the ruckman at centre bounce
  19. A diminishing interest in this thread I suspect.
  20. High art Uncle, I can't wait to read the proofs. Booker Prize coming up or Nobel Prize for literature?
  21. A moot point. Given Melbourne's record over a 50 year period, I don't think there is a "biggest rivalry." At least from the other side, as our club has such low credibility with opposition supporters. Over the past 10 years, I reckon the Tigers go close. There are good crowds, the result is always uncertain and the Tigers also have a record of failure over many years. Supporters of both sides are always desperate to win this one and there have been some close games. For older supporters, I suspect the Collingwood rivalry is probably still the big one, however, I don't think this is shared on the Collingwood side with Carlton and Essendon seen as the big games. Strong rivalries can only develop over time if both sides have a sustained record of success.
  22. Thanks Daisy, always on the ball. You are right, its been a long time and my spirit soul sometimes misses the things that my material body once experienced and enjoyed.
  23. "Dead bastard". Well it comes to all of us Bitters, and given your proclivities, you will not have to queue. I suspect that posterity will remember the name Hemingway, long after the name Bitter but optimistic. Unless, you have a literary masterpiece that you are working on between floggings. Perhaps you could get some tips from my old friend, Elliot Perlman. His latest novel, Seven Types of Ambiguity is a beauty. Perhaps your novel could be in braille and be called the Seven Types of Ambiguous Floggings. Further down the invite list than Picket, well that's a relief. But don't worry, I realize that this is all just amusing imaginings as the reality of the Manor is very different, How is life in the new housing estate. The Manor Estate ?
  24. Thank you for the invite Biff, but it is a bit like an invitation to the Manor from your step brother Uncle Bitters. You are both great characters, however, I prefer to keep you both as figments of my imagination.
  25. Correct, now for another attempt by Hird and his supporters at revisionism. But there is no redemption.
