The absolute state of Collingwood supporters whenever someone dare suggest that Melbourne might win. My god they are a fragile bunch.

It has come to my attention that apparently plenty of Collingwood supporters hate Melbourne. I’ve had quite a few comments along the lines of “especially against Melbourne”. I never noticed this before. Perhaps it’s just cause we are playing them this week and that’s how they operate. Some serious arrogance amongst them.

Nah, Meatloaf also mimed his. Was just a poor mix. Wasn't Meaty's fault.

True.  Paul Kelly played live too apparently. That’s why you don’t play live. You end up sounding like poor old meatloaf.  The afl doesn’t spend anywhere near enough on production to give the music a chance.

I played at the Anzac Day game this year. Was all live.

The grand finals are all mimed. The vocals are live with some extra in the mix to fill it up. I think powderfinger played one live many years ago but that’s about it.

3 umpires were on the spot when Cameron got that handball over the boundary line and all just watched.

    Mistakes happen.

Players make them all the time.

My 6 year old grandson wouldn’t miss from 10 metres out straight in front, but professional footballers do.

3 umpires missing that isn’t a mistake, it’s incompetence. It’s possibly an issue with the way they are taught. It seems this year the theme is becoming don’t call anything. They all seem scared to make decisions.

i was in perth for work yesterday and let me tell you, its a top top city, such nice weather and the perfect balance of cbd and grassland and not too busy, could definitely live there. and draftees shouldn't knock it until theu try it. also has a lot of nice bars

Except it feels hollow and like a movie set and there’s never any clouds which is concerning

Everyone saying "we can play better" - no, against Carlton, we can't. They have picked our method (contest and defence) and right now are better at it. Q1 their wall was on full display and we had no answer for it. There was nothing we could do to play better under that sort of pressure.

I said in the pre-game we would struggle to score against this Carlton defence, especially with Petty out as Melksham wouldn't compete against Weitering. I was bang on.

They're the best defensive side in the comp since Rd 10 by a very, very long way.

I'm not sure I can recall us having even one simple chain of uncontested possession. Or a clear contested mark win. Blues fought and scragged and neutralised every single ball. Whether you're Owies or Acres or Holland's - they brought the ball to ground and held and pushed in every single contest. Like we used to.

If they play like that - they won't lose another game and will absolutely go all the way. There is no side that can handle that sustained level of pressure, and there's no side with the get-out-of-jail-free card they have down the other end in Curnow.

We've never been the most skilled and our gameplan is literally to bludgeon the opposition into submission. We got bludgeoned back. For the first time I can recall since we elevated to one of the best teams.

Rd 6 '21 was when we took the mantle from the Tigers as the toughest team going around.

I think we've just had it taken off us.

    "We'll get them in September"?

    Don't think so.

A few weeks to go -the top 4 theorising is pointless unless you claim to predict Brisbane and port's movements - we will play who we play.

Oh - and also as I said, Grundy back in and our stagnancy returns. Yes his individual output was good, but that misses the point. He's always been Ok - he's a good player - but he makes our greatest trump card - Max - worse. For some reason. He can't be picked again. Just doesn't fit.

But we lost by less than a goal Playing poorly and should have won if they did a proper review. You seem very definitive for something that went so close.

I'm going to start a rock band.

And call it the Petty Forward Experiment.

He was bound for greatness having two fathers of the absolute highest order. George and Tom. But does Harrison play drums or take lead vocals. That’s the part that is still undecided. He can clearly do both.

If the Crows are as good as some posters are suggesting, I wonder why they have lost 10 of their 18 matches this season. Their overall record suggests they are an average mid-table outfit at best.

Not all mid table sides are equal. Some are sliding some are growing. Adelaide aren’t far from being a top 4 team, whilst still being young and prone to dips in form as a result. They have a scary forward line and clearly fancy themselves for a dip against the better teams, where they have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

    It was for a push

Melksham (I think) pushed the Adelaide player over line and they ended up close to fence

I thought very little in it at all, but Adelaide player stayed down a few seconds and sucked umpire in, so instead of a ball in, ghere was a free

Melk then stood the mark about 5m out, ump yelling at him to come back to level with end of the square... He was oblivious to it... Just a brainfade

Kossie's 50 just as dumb, confusing handover of who was going to mark the malr, Kossie went and stood the mark about 2m over the actual mark, ump paid 50m immediately

Thanks for that. Makes sense. Still think that melk 50 doesn’t get paid more than it gets paid. Sometimes they are lenient sometimes they are not. When they choose to be one or the other is the interesting part.

Just got back from the game.

A couple of brain fades brought them back into it:

    1. Kick in to the two on one

    2. When we had the ball locked in our forward pocket and ill-discipline lead to a 50 and a loss of momentum.

Strong argument that it was the lesser lights that kept us in it. Chandler obviously but Smith was good as was Taj. Felt Trac had a stinker. No idea what his numbers were, but there's times when they don't give the full story.

What was the initial free for in the pocket? I had no idea at the ground.  He also didn’t give melksham much time to get on the mark. Considering we could have had a few 50s go our way they chose not to pay.  Dubious umpiring with that one I thought. Get it out of our forward line and open the game back up for them.

  11. Good win. They are a good offensive side and got their freewheelin’ attack going a bit too often for my liking. Thought we lacked composure at times. Didn’t finish the game like a seasoned professional outfit. Mays kick in opened the door for them when we had almost closed it. They killed us in the air all day. That is my real concern. Great to see koz and chandler get going a bit. I’d like to see us put someone away soon. Just for my heart more than anything.

  12. The afl need to stop. Just shut up with new announcements and changes for 5 years. You are custodians of an old game with many traditions. You are not running a vibrant start up or cutting edge business. The game is healthy. The afls priority should be getting its gambling money replaced and finding a way to look after concussion without ruining the game. Beyond that, please just stop. I want less rules, less American entertainment ideas. Just less generally.

  13. Adelaide scare me. Their forward line when firing is one of the best and impossible to stop. I’m glad we are playing them in melb. They will win a flag in the next 5 years. I am feeling confident that we will build to finals and beat Adelaide in the process.

Would like to see chandler back in. Spargo rested, if someone is capable of playing his role. I have no idea if anyone can. It seems we supporters have no idea what metrics are used for spargo or anb. Maybe smith over Tomlinson for this game. Adelaide’s forward line is athletic. Smith is athletic.

  14. my biggest questions are about forward line structure.

Can we play melksham and Fritsch together?

who plays forward when all fit out of jvr, brown, McDonald and Grundy?

petracca must surely play at least 50% forward after the last fortnight too.

I saw the game as about a 50/50 split. When Brisbane were on top we looked helpless. What needs to improve for us to stop them looking so good in offense as they did in the middle of the game. Ideally we need to shorten periods of dominance to less than half the game.

No, I just don't view sport that way

I bet on the horses and there's no conspiracy theories in the sport of kings either

Problem gamblers blame jockeys ... never done it

But there is proof that in the nba this happened over a period of years. It has been stated by referees themselves, investigated by the fbi. There are many parallels between the way gambling Money exists within the two sports. There are also examples of match fixing in sport throughout history. Sounds like you’ve taken on an ideology not unlike those who think the umpires are specifically against us. Lots happens in five decades. For example, gambling money floods the sport and holds a lot of power over the game. For what it’s worth I agree that your version of watching the game and ignoring the umpiring is the best way to watch the game. I just don’t think it’s true.

    Here's the thing

People like you (and there are hundreds of 1000's like you) can choose to spend your entire lives whinging and moaning about how the game is umpired or you can choose not to

There's no cheating, that's never happened.  The umpires have an impossible task and you all should have realised that by now ... actually, past the age of 12 that realisation should have kicked in

I don't have an agenda either, I made my mind up over 5 decades ago

But most of the rest of you are so far gone there's no changing your mind

You're triggered by all the so-called injustice.  And all for what?  So you can have a whinge?

By and large, the game is umpired quite well

I've done this with mates so I'm going to do it here ... I'll give anyone here $10k if they can ever prove (real proof required) that the umpires have ever cheated against your football club

Cash!  In your hot little hands.  It's not a bet, I'll happily hand over the money

So hop to it, there's easy money to be made (supposedly)

Only quote me if you've got the proof (that the umpires cheat)

Trying to change my mind is a fruitless exercise.  As it's a fruitless exercise to change your minds

But I'm entitled to my opinion even if it does make your blood boil

I'm baffled that more people here haven't come to the same conclusion that I did all those years ago ... but what we've got is group thinking on a massive scale

"The umpires hate us, they really do.  They've always hated us, they are cheats, they really are.  Something has to be done!"

All nonsense based on caveman instincts - tribe related

Try watching the game for a month whilst at the same time ignoring all questionable decisions.  Do that and you'll be well on your way to accepting how things are

You'll feel liberated, I'll guarantee it

Afterwards, you'll wonder why you didn't make the switch a long time ago

Watch the game, not how the game is officiated.  Unless you do that, you're not actually watching the sport properly

In the meantime, there's $10k to be had ... hop to it

Do you think umpires try to keep games closer than they otherwise might be when one team is starting to get away from the other? There is evidence in other sports that this is true. The money made by the afl per gambling dollar spent is hard to ignore. The closer the game the more money spent. They don’t cheat against us, but they manipulate outcomes generally to maximise profit when they can.

  17. Going from deeply concerned that we had no answers and looked impotent for 2 quarters to what unfolded felt very similar to this time in 2021. Didn’t seem to happen in one game in 21 but there was a similar journey as the season came to a close. Suck eggs Zorko. Gawn finding some form, petracca kicking goals with ease, rivers continuing on with his year as well as Viney. Maybe that was the game to get kossie going offensively, he seemed to find his way into it. Having an Oliver and petracca less midfield for large chunks of games recently and still competing in there is a big find for the back end of the year. Helps find a place for Gus and gives the forward line an edge with petracca going nuts while his opponent tried everything that is well beyond illegal in this game

  18. They’re genuinely doing as they like with us. I’m nearly ready to put a line through us for the year and I’ve considered myself in the optimistic brigade all year. It’s starting to look like we need an aggressive trade period or a re brand as goody might put it, cause we are cooked.

Would have loved to have been there, but I spent the night looking after my elderly mum after having a fall.

I see this “point” being made often after games. It’s a thoughtless and entitled line of supposed-reasoning that needs to die in a ditch.

Your criticisms aren’t more valid because you were fortunate enough to go to the game. Nor are you better-placed to assess the team’s performance, unless you watched the broadcast as well.

I have found the best way to assess a game is to be there and then watch the replay. The tv seems to tell a limited story on its own
