WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
It is interesting. I spoke to a mate about Petracca the other day, he was massive on CP. The same guy didn't buy into the Toumpas hype and thought Wines was a safer option - and a beast. I asked him what is the difference between Toumpas hype Vs Petracca hype. He just said as an overall athlete, CP is panels ahead of Toumpas, and that CP is dominant in more areas - just not quite as good of a kick. He seemed to know more about Petracca as a basketballer and mentioned that he is worth taking the risk, and that he was a special athlete. Whereas he never seen that in Toumpas, yet he went early. Anyway for what it is worth, I'm more sold on Brayshaw, but that is off very limited viewing this year - of both players. In saying that, if Petracca is that good, he'll go pick 1 anyway.

Keep the pick and hope Petracca is there. If he isn't - then take Brayshaw. I think Brayshaw is a safe selection.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Roos has already stated that we need class through the midfield. So I think we are very well placed. If Petracca lasts till pick 2, we take him... Otherwise we take Brayshaw. Personally, I'd take Brayshaw, he is a dual sided, contested ball and skillful player. But.. I understand the hype about Petracca, he has made massive inroads this year. Big bodied kid, explosive, athletic, loves a goal and appears to have that natural - freakish - talent. Happy with either these guys, would be a dream to land both. For what it is worth, I think St Kilda might take Wright.

Actually Kelly was most effective early, he was busiest in the first 2 quarters.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
He looks a top notch ruckman and top notch forward. This guy is reasonably safe. Not as safe as Brayshaw, but he is safer than past ruckman who were taken early and failed - ala: Tyrone Vickery. Wright appears to be a safer selection IMO. In saying that, we do need mids and our early picks should be to gain mids. I personally think Tom Mitchell would run rings around any early selection available in this draft. Not sure we'd have to give up an early pick for Mitchell either.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
I'm just completely sold on Brayshaw. IMO Brayshaw is better inside than Petracca - which transfers better to the AFL game. Also, Brayshaw is dual sided, just as good on his left - as he is on his right. My knock on Brayshaw would be that he tends to just hack it on his boot out of the pack. And I will be interested to see what Brayshaw tests for the sprints - he doesn't appear overly quick. Petracca on the other hand is blistering, explosive and tends to find space. But not a great kick, I won't knock that. I would take Brayshaw ahead of Petracca, I think Brayshaw has the skill set and game similar to Wines/Martin.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
If we believe what we see, then Ahern is a top 5 pick. Did he just have a good champs? Not sure.. But either way, he looks absolute class. I like him, I like the suggestion of trading away 4 and 24 - for 11, 15 and 31. Ahern and Laverde could be around that mark. I also liked Lucas Webb, he was ultra clean, It would be a dream to land him late

The official I love Dom Tyson thread
I don't think Tyson or Polec will stop this season. Both players have blown the season apart, many traded them out of supercoach thinking they'd reached their limit - but they are getting better. I think Dom Tyson will just keep going now.

Instead of people harping on about Kelly Vs Salem/Tyson, just be happy we've done well out of the trade. I think it all bemuses Paul Roos because he was going to take Salem at number 2 anyway.

Jay Kennedy-Harris
If the draft was re-done, Kennedy Harris would be a top 10 pick for mine. JKH has a will to win the ball, then a self belief to try make something of it. Great intensity, great mind set, looks like a real learner. I'd pull the trigger on him in the top 10 if the draft was done tomorrow. Would have to squeeze no 41 for Collingwood in there somewhere as well.

Tyson would've been spent. Don't forget it is basically Dom's first year. GWS must surely be kicking themselves atm, I know Kelly is good.. But Tyson is looking sublime.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Tyson is a gun. Absolute gun.. We underrate Dommy T. This is basically his first year, he hasn't played much AFL football. Tyson is killing it, we haven't had a kid show this much - since god knows when. Dom Tyson is one player everyone is taking for granted, not just MFC supporters. I hear the media rave on about Kelly - given he is good, looks great - but they take D.Tyson for granted. This kid just racks em and stacks em - and will only get better. It is like Wines last year and Selwood in his first couple of years, they look ready made, so the media get complacent about their rate of improvement.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
That is because we draft poorly. Go tell Port Adelaide the draft doesn't matter... Wines, Wingard, Hartlett and Boak - A very good core of quality players from quality draft picks. MFC just drafted terribly, Gysberts, Cook, Morton, Toumpas and Strauss were all laughable picks. MFC needed go getters and ball winners, determined players who show absolute resolve - and the best we could come up with is that lot - stick men with no aggression.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Also fits the bill. Either way, we can drive up the price of O'Rourke/Plowman and then target Boyd/Patton, or vice versa. GWS are going to be under pressure to balance their cap in the next few years - they'll be trying to pay as little to mid tier players as they can. I think O'Rourke and Plowman are players that could come to us relatively easily. Do we need KP's more than mids? If we can tie up Hogan, then a Hogan/Boyd combo would go along way to getting MFC back on track.
