  1. Valenti yes. Agree about Yze. Given the close checking accountable pressure game style of the Swans, Yze just disappears under pressure. Id keep Morton in. After watching the Casey game I just done see what Morton benefits from in playing that grade. Its such a drop from AFL. Based on DBs policy, Whelan would have been unlikely to have played at MFC before he had proved himself fit at Sandy and I dont see the benefit of having him as insurance if he does not play in either team.
  2. Agree. There will be very few left of the existing leadership group next year. Positions aplenty
  3. Fair comment. Regardless he is not in his father's class.
  4. His old man started as good classy player who automatically cut it at AFL. He got better and became a Bluey holder and a very skilled player. After 5yrs, CJ is still well short of where his father started. Notwithstanding that he has 10 rounds to avoid the cut. He does not want to take a false step from here.
  5. Agree Ivor. The problems are well know. Its a matter of finalising numbers. The overall strategies should be altered as a consequence as the problems remain the same.
  6. Watched it on TV. Aside from Valenti and sometimes Bell I saw little to be enthused. Cheney shows some promise and Martin is a likely type. But Jamar is ineffectual at VFL level when he cant dispose of the ball sensibly. Carroll was poor and would happily grant him as a parting gift to Dandy. His decision making even at VFL is flaky and his charge on the opposition player was just plain dumb. Happens too often. Buckley disposal by hand and foot is questionable. And Meesen?? We paid too much giving up a 3rd round pick. Can we trade him for 5th round pick? Underwhelmed every time I have seen him.
  7. The fact that he has had to find his way on the one of the most underperforming midfields and sides has not help. No sense sending him to the rabble at Sandy.
  8. Superb Article. I saw Martin Flanagan moving amongst the faithful at Federation Square last week. I trust the show put on inspired him. Its a great read.
  9. I think he makes a valid point about MFC last year. However TJ was part of the culture stain at MFC.
  10. Jimmy Stynes cant guarantee where MFC end up. He knows that. Seemingly some MFC supporters dont We ARE in serious financial trouble and have been for some years. We are more heavily reliant on AFL money as a % of our total revenue than other Clubs. It is not set in stone that we stay in Victoria. Its up to the AFL what happens to us. We have limited time to justify financially why we continue to survive in our current form/structure and our current location. Supporters need to take the blinkers off and realise our situation.
  11. Yes there was. It was at Dallas Brooks in late 1996 but it fell over as everyone tried to post their angst at the one time and got blocked.
  12. I agree with your assessment though of him. Fantastic on the field in his early years but a little restricted off it at times! I hope Jimmy is a vanguard to at least get more ex players to rally around and engender support for the Club.
  13. B2L, I would back your comments and extend that to all the Board members who have just resigned and thank all of them for the giving of their time energy and other resources in a job that is generally thankless, unpaid and subject at times to unbelievable media scrutiny and supporter/ member emotion. Thanks to one and all.
  14. If petrol prices stay high, interest rates stay high and with unemployment rates higher then its a challenging back drop to push for more members. It was said on the Footy Show that WCE has topped 55,000 and resigned $10 million of sponsorship for next year. Hell, the competitive bar keeps rising. That sure buys alot of powder!
  15. Ok then lets have more Board transparency *Cough*
  16. No one has forgotten. It serves no purpose to harbour on it For the good of the Club's future I am happy to have him back in the fold to support the new administration. If can add support there are many supporters who are still fond of Woey and he may have some traction with them.
  17. Hell. He has only been in the job for less than a day. As far as Board transparency, 8 members of the Board resigned last night, 7 new members were elected as part of a smooth transition. Would you be seeking a copy of the minutes of the meeting?? All appointees must retire prior to the next AGM and stand for re election at that time. I would suggest un opposed. I would congratulate all involved for making the transition as smooth as possible without any bloodshed or acrimony that the Press often dreams up and feasts on. Stynes has said on the Footy Show that he is taking up to 4 weeks to determine and announce his strategic plan. This would suggest that Stynes may have come into the top job faster than he expected. Hence not securing the mystery 8th member on the Board. Lets give him time and support.
  18. I doubt it. It talks of a future role for Garry not what has been assumed by some to have been going on. I think this is a great announcement to have Garry in such a role. He has a lot to give MFC going forward and I welcome ihs involvement. You could see Garry was right behind Jimma on the Footy show. Jimmy said he had spoken to Garry about his new role. Now Garry would be an excellent person to drive our membership push in 2009 with a few explayers like Woey, Healy etc.
  19. He was also starting to plateau and deteriorate as a football and the brave and correct decision to trade him should have been applied to others at the senior end of list that collect their cheques and clog our list. Its great he is doing whatever he can to support the red and blue. However I dont see a strategic role for him at MFC beside being a public face supporting our membership drive next year. he still has alot of connection with MFC supporters. Good luck Woey.
  20. Its rough. There are alot of dormant MCC members who buy the $40 membership but dont necessarily go either.
  21. I agree. Its just means that membership numbers are an unreliable proxy of financial health particularly if the $40 member does not attend games and boost attendances. I roughly assume an $150 member is more likely to go to the games than a $40 one.
  22. Rising Membership is part of the answer. We must get more sponsorship into the Club to combine with the rise. There must be natural average of membership fall offs..higher than 0% but lower than 18%. In any years there are going to be some members that just wont renew for a variety of reasons. I dont know if I would adjust for duplications unless you have done a last gasp can banging effort like North. They have a big issue of sustainability of numbers next year. You cant bang the can each year. I think 27,000 is a factor of poor on field for the last two years and had we been competitive then 28 to 29k was feasible. However, the mix of members is important. How many are $40 members compared to past years? We need to get membership through 30k pretty quickly and toward 40k within 4 years if we are to be competitive. We need to grow it quicker than our opposition. Hopefully, they will all be full members!
