  1. Its based the experiences of AFL clubs in the recruiting and development of tall players. Out of all the ruckman who have been drafted in the last 10 years I dont think there has been one ruckman that has not need a number of years to reach their potential. I have seen a number of midfielder excel from very early in their careers.
  2. I think he has another year on his contract after this but agree with the sentiment.
  3. I have not seen anyone salivate nor offer two draft picks and upwards of $500k p.a. ... but many just recognise where he is at current and believe he has great potential at 21 in a maturing physique.
  4. He has had six years now what have you missed. Jeff White has deteriorated over the years since the time of Jolly's departure and Jamar is still in his shadow..but its a cloudy day! We need to get a better ruck solution and White is not it. Its a good reflection of how he has regressed in that time. PJ has been steady not brilliant. White has deteriorated markedly. They are all at varying levels of NQR and must be replaced. It either a long tunnel or you have mistaken it for a train.
  5. It was pick 21 in one of the most ordinary AFL drafts ever....2003 Richmond took Alex Gilmour with pick 21. We missed on a star Dutchy was recruited for a different role both forward and back and over the journey has been servicable. There have been worse trades you should focus on Dont fool yourself with that. They did the trade they know what he is worth. They must crying they dont have him firing in the SANFL now. No its a fact and you need to broaden your research to all AFL ruckman over the past 10 years. Meesen has a 2year contract, He either makes in that time or he is gone. I think the latter. We traded pick 37 for him. Hardly a big loss and the strategy to seek out available capable big men to supplement our big man deadwood was sensible.
  6. He can take the grabs in the VFL but he has not the smarts to know how to use.
  7. Touche H. However it might be wasted on those who could most benefit
  8. ....Ian Rice and George Harris! It goes with the territory. Given the severity of the offence any normal person (with wealth below $5 billion) could expect and deserve jail time if found guilty.
  9. Being not committed is the same as being past it. His limited capacity was due to infrequent but required attendance. I have removed your allegation as it is only speculation and the inference is not appropriate on the site.
  10. Blight went to the Saints for an alleged million dollar deal over a couple of years to rejuvenate them after Tim Watson was sacked. Much was made of the impact of 2 time premiership coach coming to turn things around at St K (circa Matthews to Brisbane). However from the start of the first year of coaching, the Saints were poor on the field (as bad as they were with Watson). From early on, there were rumblings about the complete lack of structure and professionalism of Blight and frustration at his lacksadaisical and disinterested approach. The rumblings were coming from both the player, administrators and the executive. It started to emerge that Blight was not interested and possibly wasnt interested from the start and that he lead St Kilda along. I am not sure if Blight walked away(or sacked) mid season or end of season but he did so and squelched on his oblgations. He was rightly pillared in the media for taking on a job he was not interested in knowing full well what was required after the Watson debacle of 1998. It also cost St Kilda a bomb and profile to close out an unsavoury episode. They had paid big for "big name" who was past it as a coach and a veritable lemon in the role. Questions could rightly be asked about the recruitment process at St Kilda. Nevertheless in a fit of despair St Kilda (re Buttress) appoint his mate and then football manager with no coaching experience Grant Thomas to coach the St Kilda. There was a huge rebuild in 2000/2001/2002 where they got the Ball, Kozi and Riewoldt picks and never won a flag.
  11. Both Sheldon and Alves had lost the players at the end of their coaching time. They were finished. Malcolm Blight cheated St Kilda for the dollar. Blight's integrity as a Coach was in tatters after taking on a job he had no interest in fulfilling. More like a wooden spoon or two in the lot of them.
  12. Unfortunately this piece of common sense will be missed by most.
  13. Sorry, we will probably have PSD pick 1. We would get one shot at them. I would choose Warnock at this point. Its doubtful we would get players of the quality of those three in the PSD. Possible yes but definitely unlikely. Sleeve, I just thought for a tall 21 yo with limited time on the field that his skills were good and they could get better. Why you have to go on a pissweak pointscore to ratchet yourself up continually is beyond me. Too many "I"s becoming boring Sleeve. Especially considering that your last three paragraphs actually reflect more sense than you have posted elsewhere.
  14. Who's the back up? Warnock would be a ready made ruckman I would go with. Niknat might not be a regular in the side for a number of years. He may not fill any holes immediately. It would be gold in them hills if the PSD contained Warnock Prisnall and Davey.
  15. Definite pot calling kettle black with you Sleeve! Nice to rattle some numbers (stats) to provide a veneer that you actually know something . Calculate the percentages yourself or have you learnt to quote directly from a website. Brilliant stuff champ.
  16. From what I have seen of Warnock he is tall athletic for his size (204, 96?kg) with good mobility and ball skills. Seems adept at centre bounces and gives good advantage at hit outs. I think he is a good prospect that the Club should be talking to seriously.
  17. Ha ha. I was actually disappointed when Tom Flower and Mark Alves did not emulate their brothers.
  18. The only person who is talking 500k is his manager. Its the apparent first shot in a protracted negotiation round. If the right interest is there from a number of Clubs your offer may be well underwater though.
  19. No. Too late. Note: thread merged with another thread on topic
  20. What draft number did they waste? Milne and Dal Santo have both been dropped. There has been a criticism about certain players playing for themselves at St K....Hmmmmm <_<
  21. Why not we could? You are assuming that Niknat is a ruckman. By the reports on him, he is more a tall running midfielder in the Goodes mould. But he is raw while Warnock has had 2 to 3 years in the system. We still need a ruck. We can still get both. You did not read the first sentence of the paragraph "Unless you can cook it ........". Do the sums over the past 10 years, how many good uncontracted players fall into the PSD? Very very few. As I said Niknat could be an extraordinary talent that is not necessarily a ruckman. He could be the running on baller. Dont typecast. We would hardly be clogging our list. White's expensive contract expires this year. How much will you pay him? And we would not be paying Meesen and Jamar much so they will go in a year. I want quality talls not quantity. We lack them in spades
  22. NitNat will not be ready to ruck in year 1 and its not clear that he not more of an athletic Adam Goodes. Warnock is a ruckman and we should be talking to him now. I dont think its a choice between the two. Warnock is out of contract ths year. Unless you can specifically cook it with a specific player, I would not sit on your backside waiting for the PSD to throw up any gems. Typically it doesnt. The guys you think will come to terms with their club and the PSD will be full of players who are NQR and/or have significant ???s beside their names.
  23. MFC may have to bargain hard to get him against other Clubs. MFC is not an attractive proposition as a Club. If we get him for a good price we should pay his brother a spotters fee. B)
