  1. At Collingwood for the year he was there they nicknamed him " Harvey Norman"......12 months and no interest!
  2. It leaked that the Board had a lack of confidence in McNamee by wanting to appoint a "mentor" over him five or six weeks ago when the new administration first came in. From the time Sheahan went to Press, MacNamee position as CEO was untenable and was a dead man walking in the role.
  3. Its been an absolute debacle where we have had the tenure of 2 CEOs determined in the media and not in the Boardroom. I have no doubt from what has been in the media from trusted journalists that McNamee was a dead duck. Sheahan's article effectively decided McNamee's future. The fact that on the one hand that Club is asking supporters to dig deep for $5m and then not release any statement or explanation for 36 hours is poor.
  4. From what has been revealed in the media Cameron Schwab has been a target for the current Board from day 1. And the way the current administration operates, Stynes is taking a front and centre in this situation and the process going forward. When questioned on 693 in response to a direct question from Dwayne R. Jimmy stated that he would love Cameron Schwab to apply. I understand Stynes has also repeated that angle for both Fox and Schwab. I would suggest that it is search between those two at best. I note the author of the latest media leak, Mike Sheahan has stated that Cameron Schwab is the front runner for the CEO role. I have no doubt there have already been discussions with Schwab given the Board talked of bring him in as a mentor for MacNamee. And it would be naive of a potential candidate to wonder why and how the fate of the last two CEO's have been effectively decided in the media and the Club on both occassions has been made to look stupid by the leaks. There are two possible sources of the leaks. Both disturbing. At the end of the day, with the new administration in, a CEO (especially one not support) is a dead duck and his removal may or may not have been a good thing. Cameron Schwab may well be the answer. We dont know. But the events that have transpired and process to has been terrible. And the character assassination that has been played in the Press has been appalling. This was a tough joh before but its I think its got far worse for the actions going on in the background. The "wide" search will be in line with the vested interests who been behind the media games
  5. Great post Graz. I posted this on another thread which points in the same direction as you are heading. After hearing both the SEN and 693 interviews the following information came forth: 1. The issue of 'mentoring" McNamee was discussed by the Board up to 5 to 6 weeks ago. If there were concerns at that point then McNamee was a dead man walking from the time Stynes was appointed. Its also interesting that since Stynes appointment, the only Press coverage for MFC has been from Stynes. McNamee has been mysterious quietly. Was this an instruction from the new administration? Who knows? 2. Stynes has publicly endorsed Cameron Schwab as a CEO candidate. There can be no effective or honest executive search for a new CEO until Schwab has declared whether he will pursue the role or not. The Club should move quickly to get this matter solved promptly to prevent endless speculation in the media which will only continue the damage to the Club. There is no evidence to suggest that Mike Sheahan had not been leaked to at the early stages of the Board's discussion. However, its clear the decision had been made well before the Board meeting to decide McNamee's fate. The fact that the matter was already in the media and that the first McNamee had heard of this matter was through the media is disappointing. Further the more its concerning that MFC could not get a Press Conference together on this until 36 hours after the media was aware suggests this matter could and should have been better managed. So try as I might, I just cant help thinking that the AFL has their hands all over this matter in a Machievellian way. I would not be surprised if Schwab back flips on his comments about being CEO at another Club. The timing of his resignation from Freo has been interesting.

  7. We have a new Coaching and Football administration department with 11 of the 42 players having been on the list less than 12 months. We have come off a disasterous 2007 on field where we underperformed and sacked the incumbent coach and finished the year already $3.5m in debt with the then CEO on notice. Hardly a climate to attract sponsors and members dollars. While this year has been difficult, to lay the blame at Bailey as a major contributing factor for the current financial position is ridiculous to say the least.
  8. No I am not. However he would have been involved in at least key appointments in the football area and the major contracts undertaken. However, as I said elsewhere his predecessor was a real chump. There is no reason why Freo if run properly should not be a very profitable concern. Its location, its history, its strong football involvement and community position make it a sure fire winner to do well.
  9. The previous CEOs at Freo and Port were incompetents. Schwab has a chequered career. I leave the little factual basis to yourself. You are quite a gem in that area. The issue with a Club's culture is about more things than just the Coach. However as Coach, Connolly takes the fall rightly or wrongly for the performance on the field I have no problem with CC's appointment as long as we did not hire him as Coach. They are different roles and suit different people. For example, Neil Balme was ordinary coach but an effective football manager.
  10. How hard would that have been in two club town that is AFL mad? He commenced there with a salary cap breach. They are the most underperform side in the AFL over his tenure and they are an outfit that has a questionable overall club culture and lacks respect as chronic underachievers in the football world.
  11. Conversely why does it necessarily mean he does "bleed for the the Club" when he woops it up at the breaks? I could name a number of player who do that. Pity is they bleed on their terms. Saunt has a number of skills but he also combines them with some truly selfish behaviours which at times cost the team when he focusses on himself. Selfishness is an abhorrent quality when the actions of one player are undertaken to the detriment of the team. MFC has had some strident examples. You need to review what makes a full forward good these days. Selfishness is not a pre requisite I am sure Newts will be charmed by Saunts wooping it up at the break.
  12. 1. Its not in keeping with my or other posters observations of Saunter. But I note you recognise that Saunters is as I describe because he is a full forward then now state that he isn't. Each way bet. 2. In a contest situation a player of Saunters size and strength should be either contesting the ball or creating paths (eb blocks, shepherds) to allow the team to ultimately score. He hangs off the pack and waits for the easy receive handball from the hard work of others. Teamwork on his terms. He is a good mark though for VFL level but thats not relevant to my comments on Saunts selfish. 3 In the past, Richo's antics have crucified the Tigers. At 32, its a long time coming buts its mindful that in a side lacking leadership Richo aint one of them. Hall is a very good player and a key component of the Swans flag. If the tribunal was competent he should have cost them it through suspension for the jumper punch on Hughdon. Its noticeable how Hall has acted selfishly and Sydney has hit the skids. I wish MFC had a better culture but that not relevant here. 4. Read the thread. You should have done that before you posted.
  13. Its a slur on unsung heroes that are hard workers like Gallagher etc dont "bleed for the jumper" like players who are animated and extroverts. Its bull. Saunts is a VFL hack that has benefitted from the largesse of VFL competent MFC players that have given him great use of the footy. He is expert at the easy receive possession and the first person to ignore a player by hand or foot in a better position sometimes to the detriment of the side. In the case of Hall, Fev and Richo where there selfishness or frustration goes overboard (and it does too often) it has been incredibly destructive to the team. Given where Newton is the last thing we need him to do is master Saunts selfishness and short cuts. You can do it at VFL. You cant at AFL. And its not as if Saunts would mentor anyone outside fulfilling his own needs.
  14. So how are Saunts, Fev and Richo good coaching mentors for young players? It just illustrates how ridiculous your notion was that selfish players are good on field coaches.
  15. Agree generally but would exclude Geelong.
  16. There always will be. But he has delivered way above any reasonable expectation of him. If they can keep on the straight and narrow, he will be an elite, crowd drawing player in today's modern game. He is well on the way there.
  17. ......and plays for Sautner in the process. He is not a team player and not a on field mentor by any stretch of Newton.
  18. I'm Australia and I can tell you that an underdone, immobile and twilight Holland is not what we need. The days of the immobile large forward are gone. Holland is finished. We need to find more plausible solutions given where the game is going.
  19. I share your concerns Bob.
