  1. Not completely correct. Yze secured a marque contract at the end of 2002 for three years after a great season and Yze's manager flirting and courting Carlton for allegedly big bucks. I suspect your figure for the Blues is close to the package. Unfortunately, Yze didnt not deliver on his contract dollars and deteriorated as footballer to the stage that as "Captain" and an acting one at that finished the 2005 season in an injury depleted EF team by running off the bench and tossing the coin to only return to the bench where he lately came for some very classy toepokes late in tbe piece. His contract was up for renewal at the time. MFC wanted to give two years on a lower though still substantial amount. Yze wanted three years. Yze's manager went to the media and said Yze was prepared to go to the PSD. MFC gave him 3 years. We should have let him walk to the PSD then. Kenny Rogers rule should have defintely applied
  2. Bruce did sign a long contract with MFC. How could Collingwood get their mits on him if he is contracted to MFC? Your substantiate does not make sense. ] That what i asked you as you made the comment that "contracts are usually backended". How do you base that comment? You actually know something or you are blowing hot air? FWIW, most AFL Clubs have all been burned by back ended contracts for player whose form, performances deteriorates as there contract payments acclerates. This only chokes the finances of the club and screws list management. It does not work and most AFL Clubs know this and I know from one CFO at an AFL that they dont do it Clubs know they cant lowball one year with screwing later years so they dont do it. And BTW, how is a backended contract "viable and rightly so" when you have labelled it as poor planning? You have not finished your apprenticeship sonny and have a lot to learn if you think it applies in the AFL.
  3. MFC know they wont get a trade for him. He is a PSD candidate at best.
  4. My understanding is that they were not on back ended contracts. Back Ended contracts are an anathema to sensible commercial planning. Its does a Club no favours. No they are not. How do you know what the terms are of either Yze's or Bruce's contract are? Easier to put a camel through the eye of a needle than trade Carroll. Why would anyone trade for a renowned social and culture sore who is barely AFL standard?
  5. Connolly has said that around $1 millions would be saved with the departure of W & Y. Whichever way you cut it.....good grief. <_<
  6. Well said. You would not get past the first interview with your ridiculous re writing of history. At least Y M knew he was sprouting garbage. You're the only dolt you have fooled with your self serving tirade. A sad example of pretence in dire need of substance and fact.
  7. For a good reason...he has little trade value and is not an AFL standard ruckman. Dont get me started. We should never have given him a 3 year contract in the first place. Absolute waste of money. I estimate Yze was on 300k to 350k a year. That means White has been pulling 650k to 700k a year. Aargh. Simply terrible list management.
  8. Well done Melbman. This site has been subject to another media outfit throwing a fit because a poster replicated an article in full. Please post the link to the site. Now back to the story......
  9. Many thanks Bazza and good luck to you and Mavis up North.
  10. Cloke is a spud but Kruezer is good.
  11. MFC were never the only bidder for Warnock. Richmond were always interested. I am not sure why Carlton would chase Warnock hard as they have Kreuzer and Hampson. If Warnock wants to be No1 at a Club then Carlton is not the fit. Did anyone mention salary cap?? Warnocks value has not increased its already there. There has been a falsehood that amongst posters that we are in the box seat with Warnock. We are not until he agrees to terms with us If you had seen any of his 16 games you would realise he is capable tall big man that could provide with us with a useful first ruck for years to come. I am not sure why you would expect a player especially a tall player to be dominating in a game. White and Yze were on together $1million a year (and I cringe at that) this year. I cant believe that Yze is getting more than $350k or $400k a year. White is getting the balance. Warnock would be great value at $300,000 a year.
  12. I will make it really simple for you. To win a flag you need talent. Teams procure talent by mainly drafting and sometimes trading for it and they develop it. And you need that talent to be able to peak at or around the same time to ultimately achieve success. There is no clear path. However each team must undertake the appropriate strategy given their list. Making finals without ultimately win a flag is futile. This Club has done that repeatedly over the years and its been 44 years in the wilderness. If you not there to ultimately compete for a flag then you may as well give it away. The teams in 2004 to 2006 made the finals and exit with barely a yelp. It was mediocre and we did so with a crud out of date game plan that even ND threw out because he knew it was flawed at the end of 2006. And we completely overrated our lists potential during that time traded for players that failed us and hung on to senior and NQR players who were miles past there peak or who were just depth rather than showing the same resolve we showed with Woewodin. Made the hard decisions. The only thing that can be ascertained from your posts is you missed all this happening and looked at the ladder positions at the end of 2006 and thought the world was grand. Gee you must have worked hard to erase 2007 out of your mind. The holes that were present in 2004 to 2006 got blown wide open in 2007 and the train wreck commenced. And the fall out continues. Bailey could not get much out of the senior players because White is finished, Yze was finished, Neitz was a ghost, Robbo was borderline till injured. Junior gamefully battled but the game has past him by. Bruce has struggled. Rivers is OP. Whelan battling injury. Not much to get when you have a senior list like that. Keep re writing history. You have to work hard Mo when you dont wont to face the facts.
  13. Carlton has picked #6 in the PSD. Its no trump card for them. They wont trade for White They would laugh and say we will get him for free in the PSD#6.
  14. You make it look like a choice. With the list the current administration has inherited there was not a choice. They inherited a train wreck. FWIW, we are already in the middle of the bottoming out process. We need to improve the quality of the playing list and it is not a quick turnaround. Roos has the nucleus of a quality list in Goodes, Hall, O'Loughlin, Kirk and Kenneally. He needs to make hay while the sun shines. He has traded to supplement the maximum return from this list by actively trading his youth picks. But his list is aging and when those players contributions have dulled and for years traded away his youth for short term success, the lack of quality behind those stars on the list will hurt them. It will come at a cost and Roos wont be around to rebuild. It will take us three years to be competitive for the Top 8..let alone a premiership.
  15. I like the creativity but packaging two players who on their own would garner a 2nd or 3rd round pick does not create a better value proposition because the other side are getting two players of 2nd or 3rd pick standard. I have not seen many instances of packaging 2nd tier value players into something better. And I dont think any MFC players bar McLean would really excited any Coach seeking to shoot for a flag in the next two years and wanting to fine tune their list.
  16. Its a matter of what they want or need. Green can pinch hit on the odd occassion up forward but has never been able to make it his own. I doubt whether he will get you as high as 14 to 22. I would have expect 24 to 30. And we are starting to getting into the punting region with draft picks.
  17. I doubt Green would get you that. He is an honest worker but lacks the upside to really impact games that could create trade value. IMO Green has a 2nd round trade value. I dont think even with leverage of another pick that a team would chase Green to the tune of offering a Top 10 pick Rivers has no value. Two years of OP should scare away if the most courageous punter. We are better off keeping him and seeing what we can extract from him game wise. I reckon McLean has potential Top 10 value possibly in a team like Richmond and Western Bulldogs. But why would MFC trade him when our midfield is so threadbare and we lack leadership. I dont see that we have much to go to the trade table with that we would be happy to release to get a Top 10 pick. I wish it were otherwise and somebody desperately wanted Carroll.
  18. Option A Its marginal at best to say where better off with pick 26 as opposed to pick #35. You just dont know what you will get that far down the list. A waste of time. Option B You are dreaming. For teams that have bowed out of the finals race, I am not sure what Brad Green tops up their respective lists. He is honest hard working player that just does not influence or dominate enough games for mine. I just dont see the upside for side like NM chasing Green. It would be more of the same of what they have and its clearly not goood enough to take them to the next step.
  19. If Warnock wants to come to MFC and agrees on contract terms with us then Freo have very little bargaining point. We might end up offering pick 35 but if Freo want anymore than that they may just get nothing at all. They are not in a position here to play hardball if Warnock chooses another MFC. If Warnock wants another Club (eg Carlton) then Carlton and Freo are going to have to do negotiations on a equal basis because it will be in neither Club's interest that Warnock goes to the PSD. Only then would the Wood and Meesen deals have any relevance.
  20. Who would get you a top 10 pick in the current MFC list and who you be prepared to trade to get it?
  21. He is out of contract and out of football for 12 months at critical time with a serious injury. And you dont think he will be questioning his future? As he sits in the stands contemplating future, he can watch some other young player usurp his role in the midfield at Geelong in a truly supportive environment. He could be at MFC seeing an opportunity for him open up in a midfield starting to come together. Did you rank supportive environments by looking at the ladder in the paper? You dont get it do you??? Warnock is out of contracct. He wants to come back to Victoria. MFC are in the mix for him. If Warnock wants to come to MFC and can agree terms, we can leverage an attractive trade for Warnock below his market value. Freo either takes the reduced market value offer or we get him for free in the PSD. His trade value for MFC is not benchmarked to what arms length deals were done for Wood and Meesen. Freo are across a barrel big time on this deal if Warnock is set on coming to MFC. Warnock's intention over which Club he will choose have not been confirmed. Lonergan was shown faith because Nathan Ablett walked out on the Club and Hawkins is raw. Blake would have played the GF if his form in the finals was not so lamentable. They were never going to let him go. Geelong are so tight knit that they effectively delisted an ex- Captain who played in a winning Premiership. Go figure. Geelong have Kelly, Wojcinski and Gamble waiting in the midfield to replace Prisnall. Do they want to carry Prisnall for 12 months given who they have to play in the midfield? Thats the question. Prisnall may stay at Geelong. But your take on things does not validate your position. Why bother at all? Geelong wouldn't want it and would tell you to hop to the PSD. Any names of disgruntled players?
  22. When fundamental aspects are missing in his game, his "presence" is as useful as brass ashtrays in a non smoker's car.
  23. Nahh! The retention of Jones is not dependent nor a factor if we did go for either Cousins or Kerr. MFC wont be interested and I bet you neither Kerr or Cousins is interested in MFC either.
  24. Unless you are winning the contested ball then you can huff and puff all you like because it means diddlysquat. Carroll intimidates no one on the ground because oppositions (1) know he is a peanut, (2) they know his decision making is suspect and (3) they know he will do something stupid when push comes to shove. MFC young players need leadership and good example on the ground not the antics of a player whose on and off field behaviour aligns to the LCD. Like I said you overrate it and you do so at the expense of things that really count if you want to be consistently winning.
