  1. Dead Easy. The following all have to the best of my knoweledge, 2009 contract expiries. Two or three of Robbo, Whelan, Wheatley and Junior. Three/Four out of PJ, Jamar, Bate, Dunn, Bell, McNamara, Buckley. There may be others as I dont have a complete list of expiries. I would not want to be a listed player with a contract expiry that has not been injured and is not cracking a regular senior game this year.
  2. I think that pretty much covers it. While we can think of players to drop, I dont think there are ready or likely replacements this week.
  3. A "natural footballer" with no awareness.
  4. You have got to be kidding. Both Bell and PJ are in their seventh years of AFL and have big question marks over their capabilities. Dunn's future is indeed questionable. When you come bottom of the table at the end of the year the delistings wont be hard at all.
  5. Tell him "He's dreaming. I dont see why we should be retaining dead wood on the list. I could still see us cutting 6 or 7 players and still elevating Spencer.
  6. We will not trade picks 1 or 2 if we get them. If the draft is skinny then we may trade a fourth round pick (pick 38).
  7. Wona was lamentable yesterday and short of gallop. He needs at least a couple of weeks at Casey to regain fitness. Bell was average at Casey yesterday. He is battling to have an impact at VFL. Whelan was smooth at VFL level but did not extend himself. He is still weeks away. Bate and Dunn might not have good today but I would prefer to make changes that benefit the side.
  8. No. And your last line sums him up. I think given the MFC forward problems he will be given further opportunities if his performance warrants it.
  9. Geez Freak only give him a whole year. Some of his custard efforts in the AFL were embarrassing. No coach can tolerate that. BTW, I missed your review of Miller from the Tigers game. Its must have been glowing. BTW, I agree with your comments on McKenzie and McNamara. Both had interesting games.
  10. You should stop wetting your pants Mo. His typical VFL peformance of late has been very good. His disposal and decision making at this level is top 3. But that a big call at MFC Mo considering you have ranked our midfield on par with the Swans. If he was indeed top 3 at MFC he would have been elevated to the senior list by now by the Football dept. You dont get it. And if anything is tiresome and indeed facile is your puerile effigy burning of the MFC coach without much substance.
  11. Casey had a great team win over a Coburg side that included Cousins, Simmonds, Pettifer, Schluz,Hislop, Cotchin, King, Thursfield. This was an opposition that on paper oozed class and experience. They should have flogged us. Newton was and should be a class act at this level (bar kicking). Valenti was active and put in his typical VFL performance. IMO Whelan and Bell were solid steady contributors. Wonna was quiet but will be better for the run. Grimes was OK but just went along IMO. Watts does show a lot of class for a young colt but tired in his first full hit out at this level in the last quarter. But he does look good. Too early to lift to AFL at this stage. What will he become? Hughes was good in the 3rd quarter. McNamara provides dash off the half back line. Cheney was solid early but I thought drifted a little. For Richmond, Benny and Cotchin will be back but geez they have alot of list players that are just list cloggers
  12. Great post iw_s. Great comments about Tiger. While I did not support the merger and acknowledge Tigers decision though wrong had put the interests of the Club first, I thought the treatment of him on the night at Dallas Brooks and the lack of respect for him was one of the worst things I have experienced as a Demon supporter. I absolutely loathe the justification of a player to be in the MFC team because they "bleed red and blue for the Club". If ever there was a person involved with MFC that truly did then it was Ian Ridley. Rest in Peace Tiger.
  13. RL will never get a foothold in Melbourne like they failed in Adelaide and Perth. RL is crud product and is withering. I have no intention of seeing Storm. Sydney is a big market while spoonfed RL via News actually sports a number of ball sports in varying degrees. RL, ARU,, AFL and A League. No football codes owns Sydney like AFL owns Melbourne. ATM the NSW Govt are financially incompetent, leaderless and set to get belted at the next election within 2 years(?). The next government in NSW should be smoozed by Vlad and co. I dont believe they will be as quick to set up W Sydney as many people think. And I agree with you about North. Fiesty group who fought hard against the bleedin obvious. Once this playing group Harvey and co retire what will happen when they bottom out especially with GC 17 scooping the picks. The Board will have blood on their hands. In 5 years if they are not elsewhere they will be either planning to go or closing up shop.
  14. Then you should realise the imperative of growing the TV base in two of the economic strongest and populous states in Australia. And such infrastructure will only occur with considerable Govt chip for "community" development. This wont happen while the GFC (not the cats) is in place. Clearly you are not in finance as 10 teams cannot survive in Melbourne under their own steam. And there is little growth opportunities for the game in Melbourne. Its an oversupplied and saturated market.
  15. Completely agree with that. Build that core of 12 to 15 is pivotal including hopefully the development of your top 4 to 6 into or near stars. The 15 to 30 is not as critical but you want to ensure that they are at the least capable competent and competitive footballers who fulfill a role for the team.
  16. Its all called the same thing....bias. In business, the loyalty that you want is called a conflict of interest. BTW, North had a chance to take the money and head North. The North board chose to knock it back. They can stew in their own legacy. It was their decision.
  17. I think you find that both the North and Richmond game we came out in front of the opposition in clearances. Certainly after the North game, one of the North coaches who I know commented on that but said we butchered the possession of it. He is right. Last year we soft custard in the midfield contest and did not show any endeavour after half time in some games. Disposal is a problem but it should not be used to mask what have been clear areas of improvement. But there is a long way to go. I cant wait to Blease, Strauss, Grimes, Maric get going. Scully would be nice too
  18. Even if I told you you dont want to listen do you chip and shoulder? If you want to be knowledgeable on this Mo on this why dont you look up the media articles in the months after Stynes appointment where Lyons name is referenced regularly in the consultations about what Stynes was going to do for the Club in his role. Balls in your court. Any chance you will answer any of my questions Mo? Hmmm.
  19. I'll stick my neck out and say that Newton will have kicked at least 3 goals from 12 shots by the time the 500th post is made in this thread!
  20. And spoil your butter knife and wine naivety Mo? Nah I enjoy it. Any comments on a poster free speech entitlements vs Gary Lyon's?? I thought not.
  21. Where did I question his right to have opinion? I did not. Never mind Mo just beat that chest. If you think he is doing no more than clicking a butter knife against his water glass then I won't spoil your little dream. And is Hazy "entitled to express his opinions of the club whether they be positive or negative"?
  22. Its not a strength and definitely work in progress but it has definitely improved this year in the contested ball and clearances. Last year we were being blown away from the centre bounce. The intensity, the endeavour and effort are greater this year, the skills are still flaky. The forward line is another case. Definite WIP material.
  23. As a past player who may in some role represent the Club publicly or have or has had some involvement behind the scenes in the Club I am entitled to ask any question I choose of his actions in that regard. It does not have to involve an employee/employer relationship with Club. As a past player I am more than entitled to question claims of what he allegedly does or does not do for the Club.
