  1. Why? What has he shown to date? He has been given the opportunity on a veritable platter over the last 2 and 1/2 years and has done little to reflect that he can actually cut it AFL level. He was gifted a 2 year contract last year because the options are so meagre up forward and he still cant show at VFL level that he can cut it at a higher standard More fool them. They would not have got anything for a bloke who is injury prone for most of his career (and still is). If Newton showed a mere slither of what Sylvia has shown in the last month, he might get a few more accolades around. Its the worst case of chalk and cheese around. Both have been given ample opportunity. One player despite managing a persistent OP condition and past misdemeanours si now taken the opportunity before him. The other one is...la..de..da..de..da Dont hold your breath.
  2. Thats a beat up WYL. Judd was never interested in Melbourne at all. He was always going to Carlton from the start. Great stuff to those supporters who are digging deep again to assist the debt demolition.
  3. Me too vanlo. And if he doesn't prove everyone wrong there will still be die hards like you that just wont to believe it be otherwise.
  4. Geez if we got a pick better than 25 for Rivers we should seriously looked at it. We wont. He is limited and with his medico history we would not get a price for him that would warranted. His 2004 Rising Star is not worth a zac in the trade market. His lack of pace is exposed by the quickness of the game since then. And someone wanted to trade Wheatley. 28, cant get a game in a clear bottom club...what will it be 5th or 6th round pick?? Retirements: Three of (preferably 4) Junior, Whelan, Wheatley and Robbo. Delists: Three out of Bell, Buckley, PJ, McNamara, Bartram. If Newton was not contracted for 2010 then I agree he would be delisted on current form. Unfortunately I cant see an early pay out as I dont see him as a culture scourge like Carroll. Trades: Doubt it. No surplus players that would have trade value at another Club. Rookies: Spencer (Elevate), All other rookies delist If we finish last in 2009 with less than 4.5 wins and assuming no other priorty picks then we get picks 1,2, 18,34, 50 and PSD 1. Edit: Oops! Should be 2009 not 2010.
  5. It would appear to be better than lowering yourself in the seated position on a paling like you do Freak. And given the stupidity of some your big noting pronoucements, having no opinion in those situations Freak would definitely make you look sharper, 8 ball.
  6. Freak, have you a registered gun licence? I have not seen someone shoot themselves in the foot as often and as willingly as you do. I know it not deliberate wit on your behalf but your posts are laughable and getting better.
  7. With 15 players still on their list from 2006 GF and add Priddis and Le Cras and WCE are targetting a 1st round PP. Woosha tanking hard??? Melb v WCE will be very interesting.
  8. Absolutely. I was not aware Woosher is in for 3 more years. There is no way they will miss on a PP. Heads should roll if we dont secure the first PP as well. We are already so far behind the 8 ball as you point that we must take advantage of the rules where we can.
  9. Double that! The merry go round continues.......... Harvey Malthouse Who's next?
  10. Either do away with the PP altogether or make it a "weighted" lottery. R22====Lottery tickets===% chance of PP Finish 16=======8 ======== 22% 15=======7 ======== 19% 14======= 6 ========17% 13=======5 ========14% 12=======4 ========11% 11======= 3 ========= 8% 10======= 2 ========= 6% 9======== 1==========3% The only way to remove/reduce the smear of tanking is to reduce/ remove the incentive for underperforming (win less than 4.5 games in a year).
  11. There is no argument that Saturdays performance was not good. And it was the wrong game to have a bad one. It was not good on a number of factors. The performance of the senior players was just one of the issues. There were indeed others. As for the TV rights why do TV stations want to have Collingwood on? Number of Collingwood supporters who watch them. Would Collingwood supporters turn off when their side has a big win? I doubt it. Was the game scheduled in peak viewing time? No. Mid afternoon on a public holiday. It was not a great result of a game but it would not have been a ratings disaster. I wonder if you were waxing about Brisbane after their game at Geelong earlier this year. Be careful with the Lions. Brisbane has alot of good time charlies who look good when they are up and look really awful and disappear when the pressure is on. They deserve credit for their game against Hawthorn.
  12. Agree with that assessment. Although I doubt whether we would have got a decent trade for him last year with his medical disposition.
  13. Collingwood had a core of senior players that are admirable and capable foot soldiers that provide strength and leadership to the team. They are hard and honest. Its a long bow raising the AFL taking away our QBW on one bad performance. We only get the game at behest of Eddie (Thanks for that). However, you are right it was a disappointing performance nevertheless and has not been a true indication of the way we have played all season. So a bit of perspective. But your issue about senior players is a good one. None of Junior, Wheels or Robbo did much at all. Our senior players are making up numbers too often and not contributing when it counts. They have been great campaigners for us over a number of years. But their respective retirements are due at the end of this year. And Brisbane, six members of their great premiership side still there. Who in our side matches a Brown, Black and Power?? They are nowhere near the position we were in.
  14. You would be really splitting hairs on that one! Damn it doing it myself. If you pushing this based on one game and one article then there is something about babies and bathwater that may apply!
  15. I agree. Let compare apples with apples. In 1999, Tim Watson did indeed command the respect of his peers. I am not going to mince words with who was better over their careers but both were revered had stellar playing careers where both made their Clubs team of the century. However neither had any coaching experience in the AFL when they were highly touted for their first AFL coaching jobs. "A history of having its finger on the self destruct6 button for more than a generation" ...St Kilda?? Easily be Melbourne. Nice cliche to finish with too. B)
  16. Great stuff and well deserved. I look forward to seeing him in the red and blue. Keep up the news Rude Boy.
  17. I just hope we get the top draft picks right as well. We have had a flaky record in the past.
  18. Clearly you dont read the posts before your melodrama attacks. At the end of 2007, Brown, Bizzell and Pickett were finished as footballers. Ward, Godfrey and Ferg were not good enough. Yze, White and Neitz could barely justify a spot in a bottom side based on performance levels. Experience is very important. However MFC's problem at the end of 2007 and still in 2009 is that the limited number of senior players that had experience were no longer players who were capable of sustaining the performance necessary to provide leadership, strength and guidance to younger players. They were no longer good enough. It was so bad in some cases (like Pickett and Yze) that all they gave was a higher average playing age and games to a side without noteworthy commensurate performance or support. Its where MFC's rebuild is far more challenging than most other Clubs because in other situations, those other Clubs have had a smaller of experienced leaders who were still playing a good standard of AFL football. Its left us very exposed in 2008 and will take some years to rectify
  19. If Newton was really looking deserving of an AFL berth on merit he would be cutting the VFL up. Its his 5th year on the list and three years ago I saw him at Sandy perform talented cameos then combine that with gob smacking brain fades. Whatever his talent and the delivery of that has been muted and compromised by an attitude that fluctations in borderline maturity and oscillates between no confidence and playing like a selfish millionaire. I did not see him Saturday but from all reports Newton's petulance and his penchant for lairising was again prominent. (FWIW, he is the last player that should being doing so after Robbo.) The misguided attacks on George's frustration with Newton completely miss the point. The injury to Robbo, the retirement of Neitz, the failings of the MFC forward line have provided Newton with an opportunity on a platter to make it in AFL. He has shown over the past two years that he does not get what it takes to be an AFL footballer and by his performance on the weekend is not much closer to getting it either.
  20. My understanding Buckley isn't interested. Would you be leading the debt demolition sub committee campaign to pass around the hat to pay Bailey out? Not a great endorsement of the current Board if they jump ship like that. Where MFC are at the moment was not out of the realms of possibility and the President has already made public statements tempering expectations.
  21. Interesting list. To be fair Pickett and N Brown retired 2007 and players like Neitz, Yze and White were finished as AFL footballers well before their contracts expired. In the case of the major 2009 departures, the same could be said. But it does highlight with some of the peripheral names listed that there was an air of quantity over quality.
  22. Very good points. However it wont stop the flurry of inane and ridiculous trade deals put up on this forum which hands MFC a veritable windfall gain and the other Club in the trade gets absolutely screwed. And even when you point out the sheer fantasy of the trade, they'll still keep pushing it. Some posters think other Clubs are naive lemons when it comes to assessing MFC players and that by having one good game or hiding the player somewhere in your line up with cover up any shortcomings which are so bleeding obvious. They'll start popping up in the coming months. Ho Hum!
  23. Agree 1858, Its imperative MFC repay its debt in full and develop a self sustaining business model.
  24. You already had him previously in front of McLean/Beamer and Jones in your rankings. Surprising.
