  1. Thread was Locked and now re opened. And Helter Skelter has taken a long holiday.
  2. Incorrect. Contracts are still in place. The Club have moved the players from the senior list to the rookie list and have pledged (Hun talk) to take them on to the rookie list in 2010 if no club takes them.
  3. After a stellar career coming from the rookie list, Robertson was finished in AFL football. Its telling no other club threw him a lifeline. Whelan and Wheatley's bodies gave out and could no longer cope with AFL. It had little to do with leadership. Fair assessment and thanks Rude Boy. I can see no reason at this stage why in a few years time Jurrah could not aspire to Club leadership roles. His seems an inspiring individual to say the least. If he maintains the form and fitness of last year then Bruce will play 22 games of AFL this year. Junior should go close to that number to. At this point they are shoo in best 22. Miller is a week by week proposition
  4. The first 10 overs were a little mundane. The wicket and the ball were doing a bit but they bowled too full at times. O'Brian bowled a better line than the first 2 and goty amply rewarded. Probably too much. But yes the batting ...the batting... I think Younis had a falling out with Paki management and refused to tour. I dont believe he was injured.
  5. It was great bowling. Southee and Martin squander the new ball that was moving off just short of length. They repeatedly overpitched. O'Brian comes on and bowls just short of length on or about off peg with the seam high and bang look what happens. Good on him. Mind you it does not bode well for Pakistan. Both openers do play away from their pads too much. The lack Younis's class.
  6. Franklin played a variety of roles up forward. He also committed to full pre season after being drafted. Watts is almost a year behind in Buddy's development phase and Franklin was more physically developed at the age than Watts. Agree there is no magicial day. But there is with your thinking. He will be eased into the role not thrown to the wolves. The club has wiser minds on this matter Thanks for Bailey quote. It only validates the development stages Watts is in. Trengove and players Rich are AFL ready for the roles they play and they had played a year of SANFL/WAFL. And the developmental side is different for bigger guys.
  7. In his first year he had very limited training and playing with no body development work. Last year he was a skinny 18 yo with no intensive training and no development. He will need to build on more than what he has done to date. You dont gain the necessary body development in that short time. He has more development to go and it will take more than one pre season. Its a crushing role to play KPF roles and he will get some experience. At best he will be up for most of the 22 games but they wont be flogging him in a FF/CHF alot of the time. Its got little to do with the less than marvellous returns but more about a player's development. Once again no one has said he will wallow in the VFL. However they have been a bit more astute to recognise the timing of matters and that in 2010 with the state of development of the younger players there is a short term bridging role for Miller.
  8. This was reported in the Press and there is another thread dedicated to this. Your Carlton sources must read Demonland.
  9. No the misunderstanding is once again yours. MFC wont be throwing an 18yo kid into a KPF role for the whole of the season. Its just dumb. He will learn the role with a mixture of AFL/VFL exposure popssibly in a variety of forward positions as part of his development. This year is his first fuill pre season after a restricted and limited first year. Watts needs significant physical development to cope with AFL and has only just commenced that work since finishing school. His situation is quite different to Franklin in terms of his football and phyiscal development.
  10. Any young player that would potentially fill Miller's role (which is only for one year) will take around 2 to 3 years to mature to be a regular player. Given the way MFC have handled other young tall players they have played little AFL football in the first season. So its not a valid or thought through alternative. Not that hard is it. You dont like Miller..fair enough. But posting fluff about premierships when we are talking about the 39th player on the list and deriding an opposing views on an ingenious and false claim of Miller's ability is the only pretence we are dealing with here.
  11. Sixth year and on the basis of the first five years I am concerned Dunn's spot was created through injury rather than performance. After all this time he still has not bagged a spot. Too small for KP. Bigger frame does not fool me. Too timid for mine. Wow! I hope you are right. We need a big ruckman to fire. My big years will come from: 1. Morton 2. Sylvia 3. Jurrah 4. Frawley 5. Grimes 6. Tapscott
  12. Selfish on the field. Self serving off it. Cant think of a better person to be Richmond's highest game holder. Finished his coaching career with Richmond in the most appropriate and traditional Tigers way.....with the boot! Another issue with SEN.
  13. So have I. Scarlett is a premium footballer and has beaten Neitz on a number of occasions. But physical intimidation....please. Scarlett does not need to take that cheap route the way he plays.
  14. Well they routinely post on here and comment on how information free the interviews on SEN. No kiddding. But you keep listening because you never know when they might say something informative. Dont hold your breath though.
  15. Thanks for the clarification and that somebody did miss the point!
  16. When you consider Morton's on field work rate it would be a brave call indeed.
  17. You are right if you take rpfc's comment literally and fair enough. My understanding is that at times, Newton has been an indifferent trainer.
  18. I do worry about people that listen to SEN expecting to be informed. Its sooo content light that I am surprised it has not floated away.
  19. For role Newton was playing, body strength and the ability to play one on one are critical. He does not play that well. Its more than a body definition issue It was the achilles heel of White from 2005 onwards that he could not play body on body. Davey is also limited in that respect and must rely on his strengths in other areas to cope.
  20. You miss the point if you think the discussion its a choice between a Miller type and your match winner. It isn't. its case a recognising the attributes that Miller to where our list is at the moment. He position on the list is not a sacrifice of talent. If anything if we had not have been able to rookie Newton then Miller may well have gone as a consequence. I understand that Millers contract was a line ball. He's the 38/39th player on our list. Its soapbox melodrama to suggest we'er stuffed for retaining him. And I am sure Hawthorn's 38/39th player on their list has all the deficiencies of a Miller.
  21. McLean might have been poor this year but he did play 20 games and finished 11th in the Bluey. And if you are ranking performance then how does Maric get a guernsey? I dont think you have consistently applied your metrics. As you pointed out, due to injury Garland cant be in but Green can be on half a season. I cant think of anyone that performed better than he did in his role. I think Dunn and Jetta get there by default but I cant think of far better options. Highlights the year we have had.
  22. You should not read it then. If they had not sent it prior to the end of November then it is likely it would never have reached supporters until after Christmas. There would have been spasmodic delivery because of Christmas deadlines and some posters on this forum would see it as another failing of the Club. Its an unnecessary waste of money to incur another document dispatch fee for merchandise brochure two weeks prior to your preferred despatch time. FWIW, hasn't there been enough written on our new recruits??? I thought the book was well produced and contain the right messages. Enjoyed the Harrington article. However I did not notice that in Bailey's article he referred to two or three players who failed their obligations and appeared at the first pre season training out of condition? A question for training watchers.....does anyone know who those players were? I'd prefer answers based on fact not on poster speculation. On the tank tops (how appropriate! ) I would have preferred 1858 to 58.
