  1. Well it did - it happened- They admitted their error(You should take note)- Get over it. It should not be allowed to happen again. Hopefully a lesson has been learnt by the AFL.
  2. Grow up. 3aw footy mentioned it came in a couple of years. FFS, the goal umpire never indicates until he has all clear from the field umpire. What does that tell you? Hmmmmm
  3. Jamar always had the rucking skills in his early days but did not get enough of the ball. PJ does neither. Did little to advance his claims as a vital cog. We need him against Cox!
  4. I always thought the goal umpire awaits "all clear" from the central umpire before signalling a goal or a point. Its actually the field umpire that can overrule either a goal or boundary umpire. Disappointing outcomes nevertheless.
  5. They should not have been flat after squibbing it against St Kilda. Dogs should have had the sting in the tail tonight. They were up by 14 points in soapy conditions. Some credit should go to the opposition. We came back at them twice during the game. Hated the result but there is alot to excited about with this squad.
  6. Petty in the context of the performance on the night.
  7. Hughes did his bit today in tough conditions. Look Miller was the last man contracted in 2009 on one year. He was on a knife edge to start with this year.
  8. 6 - Scully 5 - Jones 4 - Grimes 3 - Trengove 2 - Bate 1 - Warnock Special mention for Davey and Bennell whose pace and foot skills in the wet were something special. Bennell first touch ball skills at times was dry weather stuff. Bennell for GOTY.
  9. Absolutely agree. I know the cause is good but FMD they looked too similar to MFC. I am sure at one stage there was quick handball out of the centre by MFC in the direction of an umpire and there was no MFC player in cooee. They should have given them a pink whistle to use then swallow.
  10. Outstanding tonight..simply outstanding in terrible difficult conditions. Definite Rising Star
  11. Firstly its too early in the season to either finalise your cast offs and determine your wants. Much can happen in 15 rounds. And given Rivers medical record and style of play, he will pull you a 3rd rounder at best. Agree. No and no to Hawkins either. ...selfish,slow, unaccountable and past it.
  12. Sheedy won the flag that year. Hardly lose sleep over it. Mark Blake was dropped for GF in 2007 after playing 22 games including finals.
  13. I dont see that Newton adds anything more than Miller. And if you want a player to make a contest and bring the ball to ground then Miller does that better than Newton. We have just beaten Brisbane without Newton. I am not sure what Newton did that was so good against Adelaide. IMO he confirmed that he really does not impact a game. Newton does not hurt the opposition on the scoreboard. Agree with that. JCB...Inner Demon has nailed it. That is the issue with Grimes. And its individual instances against a total game where the majority of his efforts reflect good decision making under pressure, a cool head, good balance in traffic and effective disposal. Its not a lack of discipline at all.
  14. The fact is it isnt and he is working to instruction. You havent worked out that we are able to attack through the corridor once the ball has crossed the centre by creating space in the opposition defence. And we create that space by redirecting the ball across the other side of the ground to spread their defence. We then use fast running and slick use of the ball by hand or foot to further open up those spaces from which our mobile forwards run into the space. If Grimes just kicks forward he kicks to an area already with a cluster of opposition defenders that will close down movement of the ball and force a turnover through numbers at the contest. I would drop Grimes if he just kicked to a contest because it is a complete waste of the use of the ball. Our plan is more than just bombing down the guts. If we were just trying to do that then the opposition would just populate and drop numbers back in that centre corridor. By playing Bailey's plan to stretch the defence across the ground and make them accountable for the MFC player with the ball, they are unable to drop numbers back in key zones. Your tirade against Grimes is soooo misplaced its laughable. Did Bailey maintain a straight face when you ask him about disciplining Grimes?
  15. Not at all. Millers work rate is far greater than Newton's and much more than your stereotyped 70 metre leads up the ground. He also works harder at the contest. Height is not necessarily a requirement of a mobile forward line. I would not select Newton for a token tall. What a waste. The best way to make Lake, Boyd and Williams accountable to ensure we win the midfield contests. There is zero chance that Lake will run off or zone off if the Bulldogs dont control the ball. And if we are using a mobile forward line like we did against Brisbane then he will find it hard to zone off if our players move up the ground when the ball is in the defensive area for MFC.
  16. If Miller is allegedly not smart enough then Newton sure isnt. If creating a contest and bring the ball to ground then Miller has Newton done all over. The only way Newton seems to achieve that is by dropping marks when we have clean control of the ball. And given the theme of a "of a running forward line and make their defenders accountable", Newton does not cut it at all.
  17. That's the point. It was a mutual decision. He was not going to get the same opportunities and money at MFC that he would get at Carlton. Unless he was injured, why should Carlton have been suspicious? They had seen him play AFL for over six years. And Ratten and Riley had coached him at MFC. They know what they were doing and what Carlton needed after Stevens had retired early. MFC were not prepared to stump up the sort of $$$ they had in the past contract based on both past performance and perception of future opportunities in the next 12,24 and 36 months.
  18. If a HOF member were to commit or found to have committed a heinous crime he should be withdrawn. I think your assessment of the HOF would be different to the AFL and the general community. There are enough example in life that demonstrate that sporting efforts cannot be separated from personal behaviours off it. I dont see how the HOF is such a protected species from reality. And it isn't.
  19. Agree. Well said. Yes you are being unfair. Supporters need to get over the Brock walked out chip on their shoulder. His contract was due at the end of last year. MFC offered him another shorter term contract for considerably less. He like any footballer has every right to chase what coin they can from the game. He did just that. Its also reasonable of you to recognise his donation though. Its says more about the person booing than the target. Its not a nice image.
  20. THe Hall of Fame is very much the ownership of the AFL and it has every right to make judgements. Because the judgement is difficult does not mean it should not be undertaken. I think all his behaviour can be considered not certain behaviours. And when he departed North he was finished as a footballer after the years of battering. It was a great media circus for a storm in a teacup. The Hun did devote 26 front pages to it at the time. Its knows its priorities. Nothing hypocritical just you trying to paint an AFL post career recogition as something that it is not.
  21. I am not sure the Hall of Fame would be something the AFL or supporters would be proud of if one of its members is a pedophile, murderer, rapist or wife beater. As for my own backyard I can assure you none of these off field activities are present. I will continue to judge those criminal activities adversely. And your argument goes up in flames when you single out Carey on the basis that you did.
  22. The reality is we do draw small crowds. The perception of some posters and the flawed evidence they raise to try and support it is the issue. GFs draw crowds regardless and especially when its two Melbourne based clubs where one of them is Essendon. The QBW crowd is only big because of the bulk of the crowd is Collingwood. Even more so in the past couple of years. Spot on the money.
  23. I am not the one who raised the business plans. You did and did so incorrectly. Firstly as an argument why we are not a basket case? Secondly you then made a comment about business practice which shows you dont know..you guess. You spout a number of "facts" about things or bring up issues in discussion that are no more than your own imagination getting hold of your own better(?) judgement. I didn't think Red Fox would have enough pictures.
  24. Pretence without substance. You dont have a clue what the club had with business plans then or now. You do remind me of Basil Fawlty. You put your foot in your mouth and then work you darnedest to shove the other foot in as soon as possible.
  25. Do you think we did not have a business plan in place prior to then? A business plan does not make you immune from financial failure. We are heading in the right direction but we are in very early days. The reason for the QB fixture is Vlad and Eddie. We have only been playing the QBW for about 10 years. You do carp on.
