  1. Much of the good sense will be lost on those who should be considering it most. Its done. Its dusted. So lets work on the compensation.
  2. Agreed. St Kilda make an art form out of truly botching things in a way that MFC could not even achieve if it wanted to.
  3. It never did. Extreme hyperbole in the light of the facts. Just give it to a kid and move on and sweat the serious stuff.
  4. Lets just cut the pretence and give it to a young kid and stop creating monkeys on our back. Some ordinary players have worn the numbers as well as one of our greats. Its just a number. Here is the players who have worn it before? No. 31 1913 F. Ellis (also wore No. 30, 1913) 1914 Jack Woolley 1915 A.M. ‘Max’ Hislop 1919 Leo Little (No. 3, 1920) 1920 Reginald Ellis 1921 – 1922 Fred Long 1923 – 1924 Marcus Glasscock 1925 – 1930 Colin Deane 1931 Lew Gough (No. 39, 1930) 1932 – 1934 Jack Power (No. 12, 1930 – 1931) 1936 – 1940 Ronald James Barassi 1941 – 1942 Leslie Gibbs (No. 28, 1939) 1943 Ken Levey (No. 29, 1944) 1944 Leslie Gibbs (See 1941 – 1942 above) 1944 Harry New (No. 20, 1945) 1945 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Jnr 1946 – 1950 Stanley Rule 1953 – 1964 Ronald Dale Barassi 1965 – 1968 Ray Groom (No. 15, 1963 – 1964) 1974 – 1975 Bill Barham 1976 Paul Goss 1978 Peter Garratt 1979 Phil Carman 1983 – 1985 Kelvin Templeton 1990 – 1992 Rod Keogh 1996 – 1998 Donald Cockatoo-Collins 2000 - 2009 Paul Wheatley 2009 - 2011 Tom Scully Just FTR , Paul Goss, Donald C-Collins and Peter Garratt did not set the number of fire at MFC.
  5. Northey went onto coach at other clubs. Balme and ND have forged careers as capable heads of FD of ther clubs.
  6. Not sure if we need to recruit another big man. Mitch Clark plays the Stefan Martin role. Do we trade Stefan as a result??? We need to get game time potentially into Gawn and Spencer as well.
  7. He has a get out clause if he gets the chance to bring a "winning culture" to an AFL Club. He might help the TV ratings MFC gets for its games when he speaks to the Richo at half time. On such a cold morning I am warming to this.
  8. I tend to look it that way. If MFC get a Coach that for start wins more games than he loses then the members will come. But iif you are going to use 12 month members numbers as a criteria, we should sign up Rove McManus.
  9. In the past 12 months its been neither. "Magic of the kill??" Wow.
  10. Yes we're doomed. Its ironic that the Club gets a lecture from a player who epitomised the "Me First" culture at MFC. A player that gives the Club little leaadership when he was there and public condemnation through a fluffy forum like twitter. Talking of blind support of rubble. The last 12 months have as bad off the field as it has on the field. The handling of the lead up to Geelong game and the knee jerk blind Freddie reaction by the Board was inept, embarrassing and unprofessional. We have CEO that does not have the support of the Board. We have a Football Director that was maligned in a public report was publicly stripped off the job by President who due to terrible cancer condition has not been able to function properly. The whole place has been has been highly dysfunctional with little leadership. But you are right it has been amazing. FMD. Yeah. Lets smash'em. Smart thinking. That will stop them being soft.
  11. Lets just see if we can get the midfield together and getr their hands on the ball to at least get inside 50, lace up or otherwise.
  12. Hyperbole and hindsight are poor partners.
  13. Great. Tactical that is what you want to have your midfielder winning the ball from the cenre and kicking long to your advantage when your forwards are taller than your opposition defenders. Its just not a case of "bomb it long". They may be kicking long but they still kick to the advantage of their teammates. Every defence gets exposed when the opposition midfield is destroying your midfield. Its not just an MFC thing. Geelong gave perfect example of that against the Pies the other week. The MFC defence is actually pretty good. If they could improve their disposal coming out of defence then they would be better. And if you actually re read your second paragraph it makes a mockery of the final paragraph.
  14. Cameron did have hit and misses. 1999 and 2005 have been very good for us 2001 and 2004 have been poor returns. I would have thought the jury would not have to deliberate long on Bate, Dunn and Newton. He did well to gst Thompson in 2000. But he was also hamstrung with salary caps penalties in 1999 and 2000. The one time he had high draft picks it was in the worst draft year ever 2003. Sylvia has been OK and we traded the downside away on McLean to Carlton who wore the pain. We did some terrible trades for Paul Johnson, Moorcroft, Heffernan and Byron Pickett. Moloney is nowhere near Scott Thompsons class. Prendergast has had higher picks and the top 12 picks he has had need to be stars if MFC are to succeed. I think you need at least 5 years to assess Barry's success.
  15. Our defence gets found out when our midfield gets pumped by another sides quality midfield. Geelong had the best big man on the ground and the midfield on top for 3 qtrs and guess what?
  16. Clarkson was ruing the fact that the Hawks midfield was absolutely smashed in the centre clearances particularly after 1/4 time. Maybe he was watching a different game. Hmmmm. Last night was a tactical win for the Cats. They had the premier big man on the ground in Ottens and they had taller forwards on a height tested backline. They won the centre and the outcome was obvious.
  17. Oh no. I thought we had had enough in the past 50 years!!
  18. In many cases the media dont know any more than the rest of us (eg Tom Scully affair). I am not sure what sort of transparency you are looking for but at the very least you should expect that the office holders perform their roles honestly, competently and to the best of their capability. We have empowered the Board to to do this for us. If you are not happy with the Board then you, I and others have the power to replace that Board. Agree. There is definitely a problem with leakage at the Club. In addition the Board has handled this whole situation in the lead to the Geelong game and post that match poorly and in some cases unprofessionally. There are still issues to be sorted out there. The report is not secret. It is like any other report commissioned by the Club. It like other internal or external reports are not for public issue or consumption. I dont believe there is a cover up. There is more an unprofessional leakage to vulture like media. In general, the MFC have handle communication and engagement of supporters well. But the unauthorised leaks do no one any good. A club with strong and willing leadership can better manage this. With Stynes incapacitated its clear there has not been the requisite leadership to control and address matters. And the issues that have plagued MFC over 50 years have been caused by a variety of problems/events that have erupted at different times over time. The issues that we face today are the issues we need to address today. And the constant harping back to the Norm Smith departure is just a monkey on the back of supporters who want to moan about our failures. We need to move on and deal with the present. And its ironic I would have thought alot of that "culture" went when arguably the greatest ever Demon RDB left 12 months earlier than Smith.
  19. Maloney should change his name by deed poll.
  20. Geez. Great performance from Aust. But SL should hang their collective heads in shame. Good batting strip won toss and sloppy batting.
  21. WINNER: A player is "soft". If you are playing AFL football, you are definitely not soft. A definite cheap shot from posters who never played the game higher than a kick to kick in the school yard. SECOND: A player would be "good trade bait". Typically this comes from a poster who regards players that have played 10 games in 5 years with a lowly club like MFC as being of some intrinsic value to a another club who will give over a 1st or 2nd round draft pick and have not discovered that the player cant think, kick, handball, mark or tackle or any of the aforementioned. The same poster will also think that if you package 2 or more of such players in a deal that Clubs will go into a lather to get an NQR showbag of mediocrity THIRD: "That was the worst exhibition of umpiring I have ever seen." This only lasts until the next week when the same dross is trotted out. Also used as a fake and ignnorant excuse that "it cost us the game" or its part of an "AFL conspiracy to destroy MFC" SPECIAL MENTION: Absolutely. Self serving mindless dross that does not establish anything. OTHER MENTION: "He wont be part of premiership side" - A truly dumb comment when there are examples ofordinary players being in the right place at the right time that get a guernsey in a flag. This issue is whether that person is critical to a flag pursuit and whether you pay over the odds to retain the player.
  22. Mclean - His limited future in AFL was demonstrated in his final years at MFC where he was reduced to minor tagging roles and was not seen as a necessary fixture in a developing midfield. Slow, does not hurt you by hand and foot and has perennial soft tissue injuries. MFC did a great deal to get a first round pick for him from Carlton. Too slow for AFL and finished. Bruce - Good servant at MFC but apparently mercenary for his own causes. No leadership material. Has been injured this year after being very durable at MFC. May struggle for another contract at Hawthorn. Suggest he is finished too.
  23. What are you achieving Robbie that sets you on some higher plain of action?
  24. So what if its been that way that for 40,50,60 years? Blind Freddie can see we have not been successful for the past few decades. I rather deal with the present situation and move forward. If anything, MFC was at its most dire in 2007. We have made improvements in a number of areas. But its a long process and I know you realise that There are some things the Board has done well in the past 4 years and some it could have done better. But I am not sure what the misery guts department is achieving with the repetitive "We're crap, we're duds, we're the worst, we're soft". Its has all the positive benefits of 19th Century torchbearing witchhunt.
