  1. Please use the locker room. Thanks. Thread locked
  2. While not good, its not the end for him. And we went pick 34 on Gawn so hardly sweating the big stuff. Had he not been injured he was rated to have gone higher.
  3. Sportsman should not live in a vacuum. Its no surprise the Hun got involved. They're in fine form after the scintallating Majak Daw scoop. When you say "someone" recommended wouldnt you want to be sure they are medically qualified to give that recommendation. I hear there are lots of recommendations on tablets from "someone" apparently at night clubs. He does not have to be an Australian cricketer (not that it is a fair measure) to be careful. The issue is more about the Hun's explosive journalism. And its appalling.
  4. Well done on backing the players demonoid. Just in general and not directed at specific individual, ......can we do away with allegations of "player bashing". It has a similar application on a debate as labelling someone a "racist". None of that goes on as its against the CoC and all Mods and the Site Owners are quick prevent any such attacks should they occur. If do feel there is a case of unwarranted player attack then use the report button on the thread There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism of a player's performance. Players and officials from all Clubs should be respected but are not immune to fair and reasonable assessment and judgement on the Boards.
  5. There have been so many publicised incidents of athletes, footballers and sportsmen contravening drug laws inadvertently and naively. Unfortunately it does not wash. Lees has absolutely stupid and his only protection is the goods weren't delivered. Having consumed the product he would have been snared. He should get a lighter penalty. And FWIW, Warne should have gone for longer for his episode. He was very very lucky to have received one year for what he did.
  6. The Fs dont make sense when you see what we have in return. And you dont know how they will turn out at this stage? If we got nought for Scully and McLean then its an F. How can Sylvia be a B and Morton a D??? Both have underdelievered to date. Col has just done it longer complete with off field stupidity. It says alot about a player who is in his 9th year and is still talked of "potential". Has yet to put in place one solid high performance year to date. Its too early to make a call on Watts and Trengove...although there is deifinite upside. Absolutely shafted. AFL will have to make a "special case" for Port IMO if they perform as expected.
  7. Im with you 45 on that. Who remembers IPL or ODI games or outcomes from the past? Beside the 1999 World Cup when South Africa self destructed, I recall very little about it.
  8. Didnt mean to cut your lunch there....... I was sure Newton's mere mention would upset those seemingly frustrated by No 29.
  9. We have Jamar, Martin as proven first rucks. We have Clark that can pitch hit there. And we also have Lyndon Dunn for centre bounces...... Could we have got rid of Newton too early? Rotten news for Spencer and Gawn. Speedy recovery to both.
  10. Fair enough you only price at 1PP. Dunn, Bate and Jetta will OOC at the end of this year. WCE could pick them up for nicks. And fringe players with little currency dont swing deals. IMO if we got Gaff for one PP. Its a bargain Seems in line. Especially if we are rating Scully against Gaff in this thread.
  11. Yep the fringe player will clinch it. In a normal trade, MFC would have been nuts to trade Scully for a 1st rounder and a player unless that player was at least 1st round value. And Clark is an unknown factor for MFC. This could easily be a great deal or something that blows up in our face I dont think there is a valid market for super stars. WCE got done over on the Judd deal.
  12. Franky, Willo was only ordering 2 coffees from the member's canteen. Nothing sinister in that!
  13. If Sylvia underperforms on or off field then it dubious trade value coupling an underperformed player with a player who is past it or a player who is fringe. Team wont buy a showbag of mediocrity and give up a talent like Gaff.
  14. Given the debacle both on and off the field over the past 12 months, i think there will be supporters who will wait and see the early performances before they buy the hope after one meaningless NAB Cup victory. And if we are going to get to 40k, we are going to have to win more new supporters etc as well as fair weather ones. I reckon we need two good years of upward improvement where we win as many or more games than we lose. The last 12 months have not been a great sell for MFC.
  15. Exactly. He's flaky all right. Is it a problem with his scaffoid bone in his wrist? This sort of injury can take a long time to heal
  16. You are setting yourself up for a fail and egg on your face if you dont succeed. "No more excuses" implies impatience or frustration when rather than excuses there have been reasons and good ones why you have not achieved whatever it is you expected to achieve. Its smacks of failure to understand the issues the Club has been through and is dismissive of the efforts to date. I wouldnt use it at all. Excuses suggests a cop out for some past failing. Its wrong and its cringeworthy. I dont know why you think we have been given "excuses" because we are now where we logically thought we would be when the rebuild was started. If this is not good enough for some supporters then they have the tinted glasses on too tight. Its the biggest rebuild a side has ever undertaken on the field (playing list) and off the field (Board, FD, debt) by a Club. Its a major cop out by those too emotive to think through the issues of the moment and dismiss explanations of less than expected outcomes as "excuses". IMO the slogan sucks and hits all the wrong buttons. You should sell it to the Club for their reaction
  17. A bit revisionist. I do recall Bailey suspending Sylvia for a couple of off field matters. Sylvia has played his best football under Bailey and has slowly got better each year. http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/C/Colin_Sylvia.html If Sylvia stuffs up or has a huge form drop then he will be questionable trade bait.
  18. Thanks Redleg, rpfc, Drs Drake and Mubutu (its always good to get a 2nd opinion from a doctor) for the clarification. And i agree with Old that we would have to part with both compos to get Gaff.
  19. There was amongst the rose coloured glass brigade but on Dland as a straw poll I thought the weight of expectation was that we would not make it. There is always hope but there was enough reality. Good idea to put monkey's on everyone's back . Frankly i dont see the purpose of such an impatient motto. Will the Club give out lit red and blue torches that supporters can wave outside the changerooms if we lose a game badly. The pressure is already on Neeld because he has list that coming into its maturity phase in next 1 to 2 years for the window of opportunity, he has Clark and a better structured FD. And if we have a flat year the membership numbers/ attendances will tell a tale. And I cant see we would ever get it but we must reclaim the momentum as you have pointed out. And if we do have a better season this year, the membership numbers are more likely to reflect it in 2013 when people jump on the bandwagon.
  20. If we did give 2 compo picks for Gaff (and its an if), how does that impact the securing of Jack Viney? Are we not committed to using one of the compo picks under the F/S rule? And if Gaff is or was an MFC player upon signing with MFC would he have to change his first name to "Jack"?
  21. Not necessarily. If he was media astute, he would have still said he was happy with challenge. He would not air a grievance directly or indirectly in the media.
  22. Well we couldn't delist/trade 40 players but there is significant differences to the FD/side this year from last year if you care to peer above the gloom. At least its an improvement on where you were last year. overstretched on false expectation. Cheer up. I would have thought the coaches would and should have a pretty good grasp on where players are at re strengths and weaknesses now. Royal was here before Neeld and has history on the list. And you would have to be kidding if you did not think Neeld had a reasonable grasp of players when he took the job. He has coached against them so he would know how MFC plays and would not need to watch any tapes. As part of his own due diligence on MFC he would have run the rule over the list carefully. He and other new coaches would have come in well researched and would be able to make pretty thorough assessment of players even before a serious ball is bounced.
  23. What is a make or break year? Given the heady expectations on Colin since we took him at No3 in 2003, there has been this aura of potential on Sylvia. Every year in the past 5 have been make or break for Col.And we have just signed another contract wit him for 2 or 3 years so it is not the final countdown yet. He may well get better (much better) as a player going forward. It would be great and its high time in his 9th year but I am not sure he will. Col has a number of plusses and minuses which deliver just what we see. Maybe that can be improved by a change in role that magnifies the plusses and mitigates the minuses. But the hope of a "break out" year for Col may not be the case. He may well be as good as he will get with some marginal improvements here and there. i think the same opportunity for Moloney and Sylvia applies. If Moloney could impact games against good oppositions like he does against the weaker minnows then Beamer moves up a category in performance.
  24. Firstly, this is the Brett Moloney thread when I last looked and I think its fair to discuss his game. Secondly, the issue as advised ad nauseam by other posters is the extent of the difference of his best and worst and not the fact that he like everyone has poor performances. And typically his worst seems to come against the better sides. If he is WYSIWYG and this is his maximum output then as the midfield mature and improves his title as best midfielder will be challenged. I am not sure why Sylvia is necessarily different to Moloney. Both may well be at maximum output.
  25. Clubs have dedicated spotters who watch other games which do not involve that Club and report on each clubs game plans/players and how each club combat each others strength. AFL Clubs collect and collate alot of information about opposition clubs/players.
