  1. Sean Wight died of lung cancer. As far as I am aware he did not smoke. Terrible outcome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Wight
  2. Good post Scoop. I would hope that attitude comes with the growing maturity of the list and the guidance of Neeld. We lost to the Hawks in 1988 because we were not good enough all around the ground. We played arguably one of the greatest teams assembled in the AFL. They were clinical and superior in every facet. Did some one steal your keyboard OD? You're normally better than trotting out cliches like that.
  3. x2. Its fine to plan to meet afterwards but its not appropriate to draw attention to yourself at a funeral. Its time to honour and pay respect to someone who has an important place in MFC history. Wearing the MFC scarf should be sufficient.
  4. JCB, its a pity Carl Williams was not able to succeed in Court with such a claim. Unfortunately its not so clear cut for Liam until all the evidence is put forward and assessed in Court. His claim wont hold any water if its not collaborated by other witnesses or evidence. The presumption of innocence requires his charges to be proven. THere may be insufficient evidence for the charges to stick. Until then its premature to claim he will not have any issue re jail. His first priority is to get off the charges and to be cleared by the Courts. He owes that to his family and friends. From there his life can start moving forward. Everything else is secondary.
  5. Not Frank Walker and his wonderful tiles!!!
  6. The more you contact SEN the more they are likely to proceed with the Aker i/v. Its all "good" publicity. Tune out and ignore the [######].
  7. There are some good reason why our m/ship could be lower Poor on field performance in 2011. Poor off field performance in 2011. Uninspiring pre season form. Too early to see if initiatives undertaken under Lyon...new coach, Mitch Clark have taken effect. Jimmy standing down early this year may have had an impact. People cutting back on discretionary expenditure across the board.
  8. While we do not agree with the (typically) Aker comments, please avoid the derogatory name calling. Preferably dont add to his quest for publicity.
  9. We in agreement. Sylvia has shown he has the goods....in one game....against a bottom 8 club. The challenge we have with the senior group is that not many of them have a future past their final contract. Sylvia is a conundrum. If he performs then we should keep him. If he doesn't he is not getting much at the trade table. (I'd love a Brock McLean deal but they come only once in a while). And if dont get much for him at the trade table are we not better off seeing if we can get some value out of him remembering he will only have had one injury plagued year under Neeld? At year end the following players are out of contract and I believe under the gun if they dont play well....Jetta, Spencer,Sellar,Bate, Dunn, Green and MacDonald (I think) . It depend on how many players the Club will take at year end and how many of my list have not performed. Its interesting you are so ready to clear out a player you think has got the goods.
  10. That a pretty yawning gap in this game. And its not just about "contacts" in the game that makes a good recruiters it the ability to judge and evaluate talent for yourself rather than rely on hearsay and 2nd hand knowledge. And a lack of footballing experience and knowledge is a critical factor. And you dont understand the drafting system if you think people TV are not aware of other Clubs movements. They are more likely to know than the journalists. Agree. You even quoted why I made the analogy and yet you still misrepresent it.Amazing And I not sure having his son Jack with the inside gossip is a big advantage but clearly you are taken with that.
  11. How do you know he has the goods? In 8 seasons thus far, he has delivered only potential with a couple of late nights thrown. At the moment he is hype and other teams will discount his value accordingly. They wont pay over the odds for him. And being best 22 in a bottom rung side is hardly trade bait material
  12. But that club wont offer that future value of Sylvia at the trade table. They will seek to get him cut price based on what he has delivered to date.
  13. *Cough*. I merely used your term "football background". If you want a recruiter that has had a history of success then he/she must have had a background in football. So its does mean something. And a background in football does not extend to merely writing about. And I would have thought playing and coaching it would give your a far greater depth of insight than anything you can pick up writing for the masses in daily paper. We could go for Mike Sheahan. He has some time on his hands. And he did barrack for MFC as a child..Hmmm
  14. Agree. One was a talented footballer that delivered infrequently but when he did his performance at the top level was top shelf. The other was pick no 3 in the 2003 draft and has delivered little but "potential". If he plays well this year then he is a keep. If he has a bad year then his currency would be poor with other Clubs. Sylvia has trade value? when? I cant think of a year he has absolutely delivered on the "potential".
  15. ....And a professional recruiter would have a football background.....
  16. Out of contract this year. Was battling to get a place in the best 22. Injury will only put him further behnd the 8 ball.
  17. Great she has an opinion. I dont see her with a strong football bakcground that would give her any special insights. Its exactly analogous to Old 55 saying we should have Michelle Grattan as Prime Minister because she watches a fair whack of parliament.
  18. No she has had a decade experience second handing the comments of others who can and do recruit. I'd back Todd miles before Emma.
  19. Absolutely agree Disagree. I think some of this group not highlighted (exclude Garland, Frawley and i guess Martin) need to actually justify getting a game. Players like Dunn and Bate have been on the list for 8 years now and have not nailed a spot. What dont we know about each of them? In that time they have been through four coaches...Daniher, Riley, Bailey and Viney 2012 is their last chance. They need to produce Morton is in his 5th year and the pressure is on for him. Petterd is competing against a number of mid sized forwards and needs to also prove his worth.
  20. Nailed it perfectly Redleg. AFL could have dealt with this behind closed doors.
  21. Nice bit of revisionism there Cowboy. When we hit the wall in 1997 the number of capable senior players with leadership capabilities and their bodies weren't shot were limited. I am not sure we got rid of any expereienced capable midfielders that would have been useful to us. And dont ply Brock or Travis. The only midfielders potentially that we have got rid of were Junior and potentially Bruce. Hardly world beaters and while taking 8 to 9 weeks to fix a hamstring, Junior's departure one year early was in hindsight incorrect. But hell he was 33 and hardly in the prime of his career. At the moment Beamer and Jones are in our best midfield but as you point out they are not A graders. And if they do need help we need to develop those younger players. Players like Morton and others need to step up this year.
  22. Chill OD. You are too negative. They say its 4 weeks at this stage. This does not mean he cannot be more consistent in the delivery of his services. The injury is a blow and we look forward to his prompt return. And you think GC will give one of their top youngsters for them???
  23. Green is 31 and if he has a similar year to last year or worse then he is finished at AFL level. MFC have a number of players of his size fighting for a role. I cant see him getting another contract if 2012 is a poor year and he would have little value beyond a PSD punt. The issue with Jamar is his ability to maintain his fitness. I think out of the senior group he is one keep. Jones and Bartram have some runs on the Board and are honest triers. Bate and Dunn are on their last chance at AFL this year. If they cant snag a regular spot and make a position their own they will be delisted. No trade value there. Given MFC have a weakness in the midfield why wouldnt we at least see what Sylvia can provide under Neeld? And if Sylvia does not perform then his trade value will be minimal. And if Caddy is a talent then GC might not value a player with off field issues and inconsistent application and performance.
